CAN I GET A YEEHAW IN CHAT FOR A COMPLETE SET
@genten-crossing
I owe it 100% to this thread on Twitter tbh! I’d had one after 12+h of grinding (including 7 in a day) and then tried their method and had 10 by the end of yesterday in less than half the time. Since that thread is long, lemme break down what I did.
The simplest way to put it is I stood on one of the lower squares of my island, close but not too close to the beach and just… waited. What I realized during all of this was the following:
Normal balloons will hit your beach at any timestamp ending in 5 or 0. They will not be there EVERY time, but if they’re gonna show up, that’s when.
Normal balloon spawns are based loosely on where you’re standing at 1 minute before any time ending in 5 or 0. I had a LOT of balloons show up directly across from where I was standing at 1 min til, but they could also be up to one “square” (the squares your HUD minimap is divided into) above or below, with the occasional balloon very rarely being very far away.
Balloon spawns on my island would come from the left until 6pm, at which point they’d come from the right instead.
With that in mind, I’d stand near the bottom corner of the map, about hereish per the wonky red dots:
I was doing this at my desk with my Switch undocked in front of my keyboard. I’d do literally nothing else in game other than run over to the beach and check up and down when the time changed to something ending in 5 or 0. At first I was going based on the official time on time.gov (and noticed my Switch time is ~2 second faster), but tonight I minmaxed even harder and just set a repeating alarm to go off every 5 min at ~15 seconds til it was time to check.
Then I just did other things (including make this blog!) with the time in between checks. It took about 8-12h of this to get everything. I got 10 yesterday and the last 4 today, and noticed way fewer drops today than yesterday (I spent about equal time both days!), so don’t be discouraged if you’re not getting stuff super fast right away.
Final tips:
Check ALL normal balloons. Color does not matter. I got cherry blossom DIYs from every color at least once
Ignore the rainbow balloons, they’ll just distract you & waste your slingshots since they only have eggs & Bunny Day recipes. I feel like I saw fewer egg balloons after crafting all the Bunny Day recipes, but that might just be placebo. You basically don’t need to listen for the whoosh at all anyways, except for when you’re checking the beach.
Slingshots have about 30 uses before they break. Bring a few customization kits and a DIY table to your camping location to refresh it so you don’t have to keep recrafting. (Or do recraft tbh, if you’re balls deep in Way Too Many Material Stacks in your small home storage like me lol).
By standing at the bottomish of the map I minimized the amount of space I’d need to check for balloons before I could go back to my camping spot, since there was only a small space below me they could show up (and usually they showed up above me).
PM was a way better grind time for me since the right side of my beach has no river breaks and a pier I could use to check the sky.
Good luck!
So far using some of these tips I’ve gotten a lot of balloons and two new recipes in like an hour!

Warning of Villager Trading GLITCH!
Hello Traders!
With a new game comes lots of new information, glitches, and new mechanics to figure out. Thanks to the traders on the discord server, and other posters,we have identified a dangerous glitch that sometimes happens during a villager trade. These glitches have the potential to be game breaking!
First and foremost: the time traveling glitch. We have gotten several reports from our traders in regards to this. We are not completely certain on why or how this happens, and Nintendo has confirmed they are aware of the issue but it is an isolated issue. This means although it does happen, it is a rare occurrence and will not happen to everyone.
What we know about this glitch: If you are a time traveller and receiving the villager, there have been instances where the villager will not move in, break the plot, or move in and later disappear back to an empty plot that is broken with a “sold” sign on it, but not actually being sold. There has also been a report where two of the same villager showed in two different houses, deleting one other villager. A detailed post on one account can be found here. Our personal conclusion is a little different than mentioned in this post based on other reports we have received, but the effects have been the same.
What we believe to be the issue is time-traveling backwards, overwriting the day the villager was arriving. We have had several reports of the same thing happening, with many of them involving time traveling backwards then forward or vice versa, then the villager’s plot of home breaking from there. Again, we can not say with certainty that this is the cause of the problem, simply our own theories. What we suggest is to completely avoid time traveling until your villager is completely moved in, but if you must, only time travel forward, not backwards until some time has passed.
Secondly, the amiibo glitch. The results are basically the same as above, but it is HIGHLY suggested against trading villagers that are FORCED to leave by inviting an amiibo villager in to take their spot. A detailed post on this can be found here. Only ever trade villagers that decide to move on their own, i.e they come up to you to tell you they are moving. These villagers are safe to trade.
We can hope that Nintendo patches these issues, but in the meantime we would like everyone to proceed with caution with their villager trades! We highly suggest following the guidelines above for safe trading.
If anyone else has any other reports to make of incidents, or records of even a SUCCESSFUL villager trade, we would love to hear your feedback! Send it in the submissions or an ask, and just give us as much detail as possible on your villager trade. We want everyone to have a safe trading experience. T
Thank you, and Happy Trading!
Custom Paths Overlay
I don’t know if this is obvious to everyone but me but I just found out this cool “hack” for round custom paths. In Animal Crossing New Horizons when you finally unlock your terraforming app (also known as island designer app) there are 10 different paths you can create including custom paths.
All paths except for the custom paths have a very natural look to them around the edges + they can’t be destroyed just by pressing y + they can be rounded around the corners unlike custom paths that can look unnatural and blocky.
BUT!! There is a way to fix this problem to get the best of both worlds~
it is important to note that your custom path must have at least 1 transparent pixel to make this hack work; making all animal crossing new leaf qr code paths unusable for this hack.
The transparent paint tool is always the far right paint option for any of the color palettes. For this design I made the middle pixel of my star transparent and you can hardly tell.
So now that’s out of the way, the hack is really easy.
Lay down any of the 9 pre-made paths however you want. I chose the brick path since my custom design is brick and I wanted the sound effects to be the same. Make sure that you have it exactly how you want (with rounded corners and all) before doing step 2.
Switch to your custom design and put it on top of the pre-made path. It will act like a overlay and conform to the shape of the path beneath it.
You’re done! Step back and enjoy your finish product.
Disclaimer: Unfortunately these custom designs will still be easily destroyed if you press y while near them but the pre-made path underneath it will be left untouched.
This is SO cool!!!
