The people of Pherae were truly happy for them. Lilina: Wow… That’s nice… Marcus: Lord Eliwood loved his wife deeply. And one night…before the two became engaged, Lord Eliwood suddenly disappeared from the castle. When he returned to his love three days later, he presented her with a beautiful white flower which only grows in the snowy highlands. It was the flower which she loved the most. Lilina: Lord Eliwood is so…romantic. Sigh… Now look at Roy…

Flowers hidden in the snow; Florina/Eliwood

Eliwood had heard of a rare and beautiful flower that grew only in the snowy blankets of Ilia. He had read about this particular plant in a book once and even Marcus confirmed its existence. All this only fueled the young Marquess’s curiosity even more. He wanted to see it, he wanted to gaze upon this mysterious Ilian flower with his own eyes.

And so that’s why he sought it out. He rode up north by steed alone despite Marcus’s pleads to have a knight accompany him, “I’m not a child anymore. Don’t worry, I’ll be alright. Just take care of everyone while I’m away,” he told Marcus before he left Pherae and the paladin just sighed heavily in defeat. Eliwood was fully capable of defending himself, Marcus and his mother knew this but that didn’t stop them from worrying. 

He traveled light—bringing only a heavier cloak, enough gold and his rapier. He made to Edessa in under a week but instead of praising his swift accomplishment, he halted his steed to an abrupt stop. He was exhausted and could barely keep himself up. Even the sudden drop in temperature un-phased the Lycian marquess and he soon felt his body sway tiredly until it felt into the cold ground.

An Ilian knight knows never to travel without their trusty steed. Though for some knights such as Florina, there was such a thing as overdoing it. There was never a single moment where she was without her Pegasus, unless she had to return her to the stable. With this young knight, there was no such thing as too careful, and wandering around Edessa was proof of that.

A speck of red caught her and immediately knew something was off, she mounted her steed and had her fly closer to observe. Once she was close enough, she saw that is was none other than the young lord Eliwood. But… why was he out here all alone? Shouldn’t he have at least some of his men out with him? Her thoughts were full of concern, but for the time being, all she could think of was getting the lord into some place warm.

While quickly slipping off of her Pegasus, she attempted to pull the redhead up and onto his steed, but to no avail. She had forgotten that she wasn’t all that strong without her steed helping her. A wave of panic crossed her body as she decided that the only way to get him up to a safe place was to wake him. She just hoped it wasn’t too late.

"Lord Eliwood! Lord Eliwood! Please… please wake up!"

Eliwood was delirious, his vision still black; he had been riding up north and had barely rested. Was he going to die here? He thought for a moment, still laying motionless. His condition wasn't too serious he knew, though he just couldn't ignore it. But what was he to do? He was too weak to move, let alone even open his eyes.  His body was stiff, exhausted and cold--so cold that he felt it trembling uncontrollably. 

Actually it felt like it was shaking, not on its own but because of someone else. His eyelids twitched in response and he could faintly hear the sound of his name being called, "Nnn?" he was able to manage out as he slowly came to his senses. He opened his eyes, the once bright sapphire hue of his irises now looked gray and dull from fatigue.

"Flo...flo...rin...a?" he asked slowly before falling unconscious once again.

"Eliwood, Eliwood! I have found a vacant house on the outskirts of Pherae. It looks like no one has lived there in many a year, so I have decided to make that my home. I hope this is okay, though. It's such a spacious place!"

Eliwood couldn’t help but speak slowly at first, "A...vacant...house?"

Thoughts of him and Hector in there now came back into his mind and he immediately blushed at the memory, "Ah hah, I see! Well, that shouldn’t be a problem. Make yourself… at home there, Ash!"

✾ - Why I chose my character

I’ve always admired Eliwood as a character. He’s a pure and honorable lord; I used to want to grow up to become just like him (still do). I remember hearing a lot of people complain about him and I could never understand why.

He’s slightly naive, yeah I guess that’s true, but that’s only because of his lack of experience. He’s seventeen at the start of his story and he’s never really ventured too far out of Lycia before. But he definitely grows from his travels and can be seen by the end of his story. He’s never rash with an enemy whom he believes isn’t completely corrupted—he has a soft heart and isn’t afraid to express his emotions/feelings. I love/adore that about him!

Wow oops, this was way longer than expected! But yeah, basically, the reason why I chose him is because I guess you can say he’s my idol and most definitely my favorite lord in the series!

and the antics of a kitten; [ Eliwood/Emmeryn ]

Eliwood had been anticipating Emmeryn’s arrival for weeks; he was elated and over-joyed to finally be reunited with Ylisse’s exalt once again after several months. He had carefully made sure all imperative matters were taken care of prior to today but alas, problematic issues always came unexpectedly and the Pheraean found himself swimming in paper work even after catching wind of the exalt’s appearance in the castle.

“Take these to Marcus and have him send out these documents immediately,” he told a nearby guard as he handed him a large stack of papers before exiting his work room.

He swiftly made his way through the castle corridors and made haste to where Emmeryn was. He had kept her waiting for far too long; he only wished he had been there to greet her at the entrance. 

Outside the audience chamber, two guardsmen stood silently and still. Never breaking their stoic composure until Eliwood emerged from the distance and they instantly opened the two large doors, allowing their marquess to enter, “Emmeryn, my apologies!” he said firstly, “My work kept—”

He paused, his blue eyes veering downward at the small kitten resting in the exalt’s lap, “Emmeryn, what—I mean, where did you find....”

Eliwood was surprised and while everyone expected the young marquess to be utterly disgusted by the creature, he could not help the smile now forming. It was adorable, he had to admit and small beyond comprehension. He had always had a soft heart for animals, ever since he was a child.

She’d been informed that Eliwood had much paperwork, and would possibly be cooped up in his study for quite a while. After the room was empty, just occupying her, she allowed her weariness to surface. She was tired, that much was known. She never was the most fit out of the bunch, and struggled with tedious trips, eventually wearing down on her.

The kitten in her arms hadn’t made much of a struggle or a notice, calmly laying in her arms despite the pain it was in. She gently glided her fingers along its head, rubbing softly to soothe it. It was so small, and rather fluffy, but also dirty and looked overall beaten down.She shifted her weight from one leg to the other, looking around.. The thought of sitting down crossed her mind, and she decided that perhaps resting for now would be quite generous of her for her body, and sat quietly in a seat moved slightly away from the table as she let the kitten rest in her lap. 

She kept quiet and played with the kitten for a while, trying to come up with a name or looking for some sort of collar or tag leading to ownership, but both led to a dead end. Just when she had run out of things to think of, she heard the turning of a handle and the opening of a door, and soon after came a noble voice she grew to love.

She erased all traces of weariness from her face and eyes, instead replacing it with a smile, as she looked at Eliwood. She watched as he walked towards her, but then abruptly and stare at the kitten. She slowly moved to hold the kitten in her arms again and stood up, approaching the marquess herself, showing him the kitten at a better view.

"I found it on the trail I took to Pherae, it was abandoned and beaten when I first saw it. I tried to care for it as best as I could, but I am no animal doctor." She explained, looking down at the kitten but then returned her gaze to Eliwood. “Don’t apologize, you had work and I understand. Though.. I do have a question.. Eliwood, will you allow me to take care of the kitten while I am in Pherae?"

"Abandoned?" Eliwood repeated quietly, concealing the persistent frown that twitched at his lips, "Of course Emmeryn, you needn't ask," he then replied, how could he say no? He couldn't bare the thought of the baby cat being abandoned again.  He wanted to help it, raise it if he could with Emmeryn and luckily there was an animal expert in town who could assist them because truthfully he was clueless.

 "What should we name her?" or was it a boy, he wasn't sure. He knelt down beside the exalt, tentatively reaching for the kitten and stroked its soft fur slowly and carefully. It moved happily underneath Eliwood's hand and he could feel it purring lowly as he continued to rub behind its ears. 

The remaining guards in the room watched the two cautiously as if they were in danger of being attacked at any moment by the baby animal in Emmeryn's lap. Eliwood wanted to dismiss them all but decided it was best to just ignore them. They were only doing their jobs and he silently praised them for that.

A sudden tap on the shoulder caused Eliwood to turn away from Emmeryn and the kitten, "M'lord," a familiar voice began formally; it was husky and low and very urbane sounding. It was Marcus and the young marquess rose immediately and faced the paladin, "Lady Emmeryn's quarters are ready now." 

"Thank you Marcus," was all he answered with before turning to Emmeryn once again, "Shall we? I will have the maids find a small cushion for the kitten," he smiled and Marcus just raised a thick eyebrow at the two.

Wandering; open!

Eliwood was far from Pherae, his home and safe haven, and worse of all he was badly injured; he was beaten, bruised and bleeding everywhere. He had gotten into a quarrel with a few thieves and had barely survived their surprise attack. But luckily he managed to keep what little belongings and money he had brought still with him, however they didn't help with the pain. His steps progressively began to slow down, his body wanted nothing else but to collapse to the ground beneath but his mind forced himself to continue on in a place where he didn’t believe was Elibe anymore.

"There…has…to be a town…nearby…" he whispered almost breathlessly. Nothing but weak pants had fell from his lips since the fight and talking now only reduced the minimal energy that still flowed through his body. He needed to find civilization soon, or else…

He shook his head, no he mustn’t think that way—not yet, he was very much alive still. But he was running low on stamina and the blazing sun had been beating down on him for far too long to keep him on his feet. And so, he felt his vision go black almost instantly and his body now on the hard ground.

The only solace he found in this darkness was the rapid, approaching steps and loud voice of another.
