keepers and captives and critters
What would Cici do if she found a stash of thousands of rosaries, let's assume whoever left them there isn't coming back, they are entirely hers now
Once Cici processes what this room holds, she hastily pulls the curtain, blocking greedy eyes from the sight within. Still stunned at the wealth in this secret room, she tries to think. How much is in here? How long did this take to collect? How has nobody found this?? Why would someone hoard it all here in Greymoor of all places?!
Is it a concentration of faith? Is this a sign? Surely whoever earned these rosaries was holy enough to be accepted into the Citadel. Or perhaps they found the beads too much of a burden and left the excess here before continuing their pilgrimage? It's hard to imagine how this room came to be.
A glossy, white lump catches her eye, and she shuffles silently over to a bag where a string of pearl rosaries peeks out. She tugs and then stares down at the surprisingly weighty beads in her hands.
So many rosaries... More than she's ever beheld in one place before. Perhaps more than she's ever seen in all her life before this point. If she were a pilgrim, would she see this as a sign? Or maybe, this is a sign to start her pilgrimage? If she loads up on as much faith as she can, maybe she has a chance?
But she's already so tired, and she's already worked so much. Does she really want to take a pilgrimage? With these rosaries, she has more options.
A familiar tapping breaks her reverie. Maúl is calling for her. And she doesn't have to answer. She can stay silent and let them wander off. She doesn't have to share her new secret.
She doesn't have to tell him that she's leaving.
She doesn't have to...
"Hey, Maúl," Cici whispers as she peeks through the ragged curtain. "Over here." She slides her hand out and waves slowly, and once she sees them turn enough to see her with their only eye, she retreats.
Maúl carefully slips between the drapes of fabrics and is struck by the sight as Cici was. She watches him. In all the time she's known him, he's never been particularly devout. He was content to settle down in this depressing place instead of striving for the gilded halls above. Still, he seems shocked by the wealth.
"I'm going," Cici announces. She grabs the sturdiest bag, already partially filled with faith, and begins to slide more valuable beads within it.
Maúl makes a choked sound and then coughs dryly. Cici won't miss that sound. She hears them rasp some words and turns to pay attention. "Where... will you go?" they ask in a concerned whisper.
"I'm not sure yet. I just- I need to go. Maybe Bellhard to start. If I can have some time to myself, to rest, to think-" Cici rubs tiredly at her face. "It's not too far from the Gate, not really. If rosaries are a sign of faith, then with all this, I should be let in, right?"
She hears him make a dubious sound. He doesn't have faith. He doesn't care. Why did she even word that as a question?
"Look. Here. Here, have this." Cici snatches up the necklace of pearl rosaries and slides it over her friend's head. "You take a break too, okay? You shouldn't work so much with that cough anyway." She can't look at their face; she doesn't want to see their doubt. Their silence speaks loudly enough. She insists, "I'll be fine. I'll keep my shears with me. I just..." She huffs and grabs at some of the hanging rosaries.
Maúl's distressed silence is broken by more coughing. When the fit passes, he reaches, takes his friend's arm, and pulls her into a hug. The pearl rosaries are hard lumps between their shells.
"Please, don't make this harder," Cici whispers. "If I wimp out about this too... I mean. It's... At least this isn't..."
"Be careful. All I ask."
Cici thinks they have other things they would ask if talking was easier for them. She hopes they find someone else who will listen to them. "Good bye, Maúl." She pulls out of their hug, tucks some strings under her clothes, and then shoulders the bag heavy with faith.
When she fails to bend over enough to grab her shears from the ground, Maúl steps over and hands them to her. She tries to thank him, but her voice fails. She walks out before she can cry. The grey, dreg-filled mist can cry for her.
. . . .
Losing a friend never gets easier.
Hello! I have a question for Mossy Fool:
What's a typical day like in the Colosseum for you? Any favourite pass times for between Trials?
Wishing you luck in your next fight!
He adds that the Colosseum doesn't only have Trials. Sometimes, a group of fighters teams up against a vicious beast. Sometimes, there are scripted events (that often get out of hand). And sometimes, the more iconic fighters duel!
He smiles and points out that he's one of the iconic fighters. Duels are pretty fun. :)
...
He clears his throat and puts a smile back onto his face.

So how did Trickle stumble upon Ensconce in the first place? Must've gotten pretty lost.
"I know a lot about Wyrms, s-so once I knew I was on the right tr-trail, I could follow it more easily."
[ Despite what he says, there was still an aspect of stumbling... ]
fat Ensconce real?

Ensconce; What is your all time favourite thing in your collection?
They glare at you suspiciously. You just want to take it from them, don't you?
But for the sake of answering this ask, they will relent and show it to you. But only, you, okay? And don't you dare tell anyone else about it.
They reach for a box...
...which has a key to unlock another box two chambers away... which has a small chest inside it that requires a combination to open... and inside is a strangely shaped piece of carved bone that Ensconce takes before going into another tunnel...
What, you thought their collection was just an unorganized jumble of junk? No no, there are strategy and safeguards.
Anyway, they take that carved bone into a dark room, coil around themself so you can't perceive them working the puzzle box of which the bone is a component...
And then as they loosen their coils, you can make out a faint glow between the gaps, and after they unwind, they present this yellow-grey rock with green crystalline growths.
It's something they traded for, and they think it's really neat. It even produces some of its own heat, despite having no flintslate in it!
Also, if you blab about this, they will crush you and put your bones or shell or guts in a jar. You've been warned!
[ they are trying their best to ignore her ]
If given a change to visit. What would your Silksong OCs think of Hallownest?
Hop on the tour bus! Let's sight-see around the dead kingdom of Hallownest! What might catch these bugs' attentions? How will they feel? Let's find out...
First up, Honeysuckle adores Greenpath and its many, moss-covered critters. She's alarmed by the acidic water and then delighted when she sees some durandoos trundling through the acid without concern. And yes, she rides one of them for a while :)
-
Multiple of the bugs stuck around in the City for a while. Cici and Maúl get to experience clean rain for the first time. Refreshing and blue. And the City is so stunningly huge! The buildings so tall! The bridges made of metal and stone! Even crumbling as things are, they are still so impressive! No wonder bugs would make pilgrimages along the Pilgrim's Way to reach here. It's a much kinder path, and Maúl muses on if this City is nicer than the Citadel. Though he looks abashed to have uttered such and keeps his head down for a while afterwards.
Cici wonders what bugs did all day in a place like this. Did they even have to work? Could they just attend shows or visit libraries or walk around looking at art all the time? Jealous...
Meanwhile, Crinum senses a glow of concentrated soul energy and climbs up into the Soul Sanctum to investigate...
After silently creeping through corridors and inspecting strange yet vaguely familiar devices, she comes across the corpse pit. He's silent for a few moments, and then growls, "... what a waste."
-
Beyond the City, the final two bugs find very different points of interest. Trickle knew about Hallownest before even arriving. Of course he's heard about the Pale Wyrm!!! Oh gosh, what an honor to step in that Wyrm's kingdom. Oh wow, look at all he wrought. And his body, way out here at the Edge of his Kingdom...
Awed, Trickle stands at the maw of that great corpse for a long time. What size... What power... What an influence on this land... He wonders what the Wyrm saw in its visions, what drew it to this place, what made it decide to cast off its shell for a smaller form. If only he could ask it...
Meanwhile~
Ensconce finds liquid gold and indulges eagerly. They've tried honey before, but that had been in a crystalized form. This honey, though? Fresh and dripping? Ooohhhh, delicious. They so rarely get to eat something as plentiful and filling!
After sating their hunger, they would also dig around the kingdom to find interesting materials. Pale ore and some dream-catchers and some vials of acid and some mandibles and shells from various creatures. They find this kingdom easier to navigate, as it's got more tunnels for them to slither through and much fewer bugs around to bother them.
Alas, it doesn't look like he's hungry for something spicy.
Dave, through what means do you talk with others?
Dave is a mystery. Luckily, he's a friendly one!
He seems to grasp the intention of what is said or signed to him, but efforts to teach him any of these languages have thus far failed. It's unclear if he truly comprehends what others communicate to him.
How does/would Honeysuckle feel about hardbone hoppers?
Honeysuckle has never been out of Bilewater, but she often asks Crinum what cool critters he's seen on his treks out. She'd love the chance to meet a hardbone hopper, though she thinks riding one would be rather uncomfortable. So much hopping...
