Autumn time 🍂
okay, since no one’s talking about this, i will.
i also apologize for my bad english. i’m ukrainian and writing this in a rush.
anyway.
TW: murder, death threats, homophobia, transphobia.
the russian LGBT community is in deep shit right now.
a russian LGBT rights activist elena grigoryeva was recently found dead with 8 stab wounds near her home.
the police didn’t do anything about it, despite how many people called out for help.
there’s also a russian anti LGBT group called “pila” (“chainsaw”). a couple of months prior they published a hit list of LGBT activists from russia. elena was on the list. and so are other people who are related to the community in some ways.
they stated that they prepared some “cruel gifts” to the people on the list. the beauty blogger andrew petrov (whose name is also on it) recently made a post for his followers that shed more light on the situation.
another activist, andrew shituhin is a victim of this organization. the addresses of his family, along with other personal information got published on the website. earlier he got kicked out of his university. he immigrated to netherlands, although recently he came to a town near moskow to live for a bit. his friend, zhenia svetski, is aimed at by this organization. in a threatening email “pila” stated that he will be killed before august if andrew doesn’t help him to immigrate to netherlands.
all i’m asking for is to spread this post so that more people from other countries are aware of the situation.
also, i’m encouraging russian folks to add more information to this post in case if i missed anything. thank you.
update: holy shit, this post really blew up. thank you all so much for spreading it.
https://lgbtnet.org/en/help-us-so-we-can-help-others you can donate to the russian LGBT network here. they’re currently working on protecting people from “pila” so every dollar and pound is appreciated. ♡
The Russian LGBT Network has been offering legal and psychological counselling to LGBTQI (+) people in Russia since 2006. The Network also o
⚠️GUYS PLEASE PAY ATTENTION⚠️
There’s a horrible neo-n*zi organization called “saw”, and right now they’re hunting on LGBTQ+ people. We need your support and prayers. Reblog this or share the hashtags. One LGBTQ+ activist has been murdered recently. We need your help. Because of Russia’s anti-LGBTQ+ laws they’re allowed to kill people. Please help. Thank you so much Protect People From Saw
Here’s the translation of the organization’s site. Please help!
thanks to everyone who's reblogging/liking the Białystok related posts. It means a lot to me and my friends, so we really appreciate it
I think one of the things that pisses me off the most about Białystok Pride is that people on the right will still claim that LGBT+ ARE safe in Poland, and that we demand too much. Because "no one cares what two people do behind locked doors, so you're not actually facing discrimination unless you want to". Or "not everyone has to tolerate that lifestyle, you know."
I'm really fucking tired of this.
Being behind closed doors isn't living. It's not a lifestyle, it's who I and so many other people are. And it needs to be accepted because we're not a threat and it's not something we can change.
please, spread the word about the białystok pride parade. it's 2019. i'm living in Poland, in Europe, in a country that's a part of the European Union. and yet, such horrible things are happening. my friend lives there, and she was there, and all the things you can read on the internet are true.
so please, spread the word, reblog, tell people, read about it. people need to know.
Hey I know I have like, 5 active followers but if you stumble across any of my posts or reblogs about what happened in Białystok, Poland yesterday, please share that or just talk about it, I am honestly terrified, the fact that this amount of hatred and aggresion is present in a country that was basically destroyed by similar behaviours not so long ago is unbelievable.
Please spread awarness
I'M LIVID. I'M SO FUCKING ANGRY. POLAND IS BECOMING ANOTHER HELL ON THIS EARTH AND EVERYONE IS SILENT. WHAT THE FUCK. HOW IS BEATING AND HUMILIATING PEOPLE A WAY OF DEFENDING ANY VALUES?? ESPECIALLY CHRISTIAN VALUES, WHICH SEEM TO BE ALL ABOUT LOVE FOR EVERYONE AROUND? AND WHY IS THIS HATE BEING FUELLED BY THOSE WHO RULE? AND CHURCH? IS THIS HOW YOU SERVE YOUR GOD?? YOU'RE DOING THE POLAR OPPOSITE. ALL YOU SEE IS SOME KIND OF ENIGMATIC AND DIABOLIC IDEOLOGY. YOU DON'T SEE HUMAN BEINGS. WHAT THE HELL.
Some days like this I feel so ashamed of my own country. Sometimes, when I see "LGBT FREE ZONES" stickers, when I hear about people getting hurt on Pride Parades, about """christians""" using God and religion to justify throwing rocks, petards and bricks at teenagers and children and all the people on pride parade, beating people up for being different and wanting some rights I just wish I could pack my bags, leave this Hell hole and never admit I'm form Poland. When I hear our government not only doing nothing, but also hating on their LGBT citizens and basically encouraging hatred I know there is no future for me here. I just hope that Hell is real, or Karma, or any higher power and only bad things are ahead of those bastards. I wish them all the worst, really.
I'm so, oh so ashamed of being from Poland, and that's not kind of feeling I should have towards my home.
As a LGBT person from Poland, I'm scared. Because of what happened in Białystok, "LGBT-free zone" stickers which were given with newspaper. I'm scared because our government blames LGBT, cause "we are provoking aggression" . I'm afraid because our local government wants my region to be free of LGBT. The hatred toward LGBT is increasing thanks to our government and the church. Polish priest thanks the nationalist for "protecting Białystok". He thanks for beating people, throwing rocks. I can't believe that country which was so strongly affected by the Holocaust doesn't see the similarities...
Poland, 20. 07. 2019, “The Enemy”
First of all, please, read the whole post and reblog it.
Second, I had to write about what happened 20.07.2019 in Poland during the Pride parade in Bialystok.
I’m aware that probably many of you don’t even know, where Poland is, but guess what, I don’t care. I live here, I love this country, its history, its traditions, its language - this is my home, I was born and grew up here and now I’m fucking afraid.
I’m afraid of staying here. I’m afraid of going out of my home without any kind of weapon. I’m afraid of getting punched for having a rainbow bag. I’m afraid of being who I am.
I’m also worried. I’m worried of the future in Poland. I’m worried of my homo, bi, trans, ace - all of my LGBT+ friends. I’m worried about what can happen to my 14 y.o. friend, who is like younger sister to me.
It’s not like we have a war, you know. But if you want to call it like that, then we can say it’s a civil war. There are no bombs or guns… Yet. But there are rocks, glass, firecrackers, fists, baseball bats, etc. There’s also a government, that dares to call itself a democratic and progressive one, while supporting fascists and neo-nazi movements.
This government during last four years destroyed the whole education system (there’s no places in high schools for THOUSANDS of children this year); destroyed administration; destroyed economy. Also continuously insults half of Poles who don’t agree with them on TV or being on the air. So we heard very clearly about us being a “worse sort” or having “treacherous muzzles” or other, very interesting epithets.
And those people made LGBT community the enemy. Or should I say ‘The Enemy’.
They cover themselves with religion and tradition, like there are no religious gays and every lesbian just spits on national symbols. We are called pedophiles, there are marches against us, there’s a hatred speech everywhere and no one do a fucking thing with it! IN A DEMOCRATIC PROGRESSIVE COUNTRY! In some cities there are ads against LGBT! Cars drive through towns and from the speakers voices say terrible things about this community. Politics in the TV or the radio calls us the worst things possible; they show us in a bad light all the time and brainwash people with wrong informations!
I am ace! And I have a lot of ace, gay, bi, pan, trans or questioning friends! I want them to be safe and I myself want to be safe in my own country! We have prides? Yeah, we have. Are we peaceful? Yes, we are. Do we have activists? Of course we have! Are we trying to educate people? Sure thing! And guess what!
It’s not enough.
20. 07. 2019 in Białystok had a place first Pride parade.
And I’m still thanking to whatever god or higher power there is, that I wasn’t there. My friend wanted to go, but gave up on this idea a moment before and you have no idea how thankful I was, I am, that she didn’t go. I started crying.
People who went there expected what could possibly happen - so called “patriots” annaunced, that they will stop the march no matter what. Yeah… Many people got injured. Rocks, glasses, flares, heavy things were flying in their direction. Random walkers were beaten for just being near the march.
A 14-years-old girl was beaten by a group of full grown up men for having a fucking rainbow bag!
A boy, also a teenager, was kicked off at the parking for “not looking straight”.
Another girl was described after that as “not having a half of her face”.
And apparently those shit of humans, nationalist, neo-nazis, jokes of patriots, were taking photos of people who participated in the march, so that “they can finish what they started”.
(Please, please, please, everyone stay safe!)
You want to hear a better news?
THEY BROUGHT CHILDREN THERE!
SMALL CHILDREN IN THEIR BABY CARRIAGES AND USED THEM AS FUCKING SHELTERS FROM THE POLICE!
So called Catholics were praying for LGBT people to die and rot in hell! They were holding their rosaries, wishing other people death “in the name of God, tradition and peace”.
And the next day what I heard in TV? That it was Pride’s fault. That they started it and nationalists were only protecting themselves! A government has always blames LGBT+ for eveything. And they’re still going to win the election this year. “Cause there are still many people who support them.
Don’t visit Poland if you are not straight or white (yeah, POC people can’t be safe too).
Polish history is rough, terrible, sad… Poland was destroyed a lot of times and a lot of times it was rebuilt.
Nazis destroyed it once. And they are going to do it a second time.
I love my country you know? I love our culture, our food(don’t even get me started on pierogi), our artists, cinematography and much more. I’d love to be able to stay here, create a family and hopefully raise my children. BUT I CAN’T. I can’t because of events like the one yesterday. I refuse to be sourrouned be hatred, homophobia and racism. I refuse to feel scared every time I decide to hold my girlfriends’ hand. I refuse to listen to politicians who call my sexuality a perversion. I refuse. I know that things are getting better, i’ve experienced it myself but i’m done. Right after high school i’m leaving. And i’m not coming back until everything changes. I’m proud of every LGBTQ+ person in Białystok. You’re the reason i still have some hope left.
to my poland lgbtq+ brothers, sisters, and people, i am so sorry for what your government has done to you. i am so sorry your Pride was disrupted. i am so sorry you were told that your existence is simply an ideology. you have my support. you have my love. existing is a fight and you all are fighting to love.
okay, so I don't usually speak out about anything, but I'm disgusted with what happened yesterday in Bialystok and I need to speak about it.
so, to anyone that doesn't know what I'm talking about: yesterday (20.07.2019) a polish city Bialystok held it's first pride parade and a wide group of nationalists gathered up with a manifestation against lgbtq+ people. They were shouting horrible things, swearing, throwing bottles, stones and flares at marching people. It got really violent, ambulances were driving like crazy. many people are injured and in hospital. the police collared about 25 people but that's nothing compared to how many people did something. lgbt people were afraid, and even after they left the parade, homophobes were chasing them down to beat them up. Some even took photos of people marching to later track them down and "finish what they've started". It's all over the news but it doesn't show how big was this and how many people are hurt.
So yeah, I'm disgusted with people who call themselves patriots and use our national flag to justify beating queer people. who are throwing flares, food, stones and glass bottles at them. who call themselves christians and go on beating young, innocent people just for being their true self. who spread hate and violence everywhere.
I'm also terrified with the situation in this country. i'm scared to be myself, i'm scared to love who I love, i'm scared to wear a fucking rainbow bag just because I might be chased and beaten down for it. But that's not it. I'm also filled with anger and determination to fight for my right to be. For a future where nobody has to be afraid to be themselves. And because of that, I will go to the pride parade, I will wear my rainbow bag and I will hold the hand of a person that I love. And I will do it all with pride, because I won't let those homophobes have that power. They have hate, we have love.
And to my fellow lgbtq+ poles: stay save, take care of each other, be proud of who you are
hey.
so, yesterday, homophobic, right-wing stronghold of białystok, poland had its first pride.
last year marked many firsts for the polish LGBT community. first pride in opole, kielce, many others. this year - first pride in białystok.
this wasn’t as peaceful as the other cities. this time, people were beaten up. police used tear gas. actual CHILDREN were gassed. far-right nationalists were calling the marching the most horrendous names you could possibly imagine.
some participants claimed it ‘’looked like a war zone’’.
and it did. the media is silent. the government is silent.
in addition, a government-endorsed newspaper is spreading ‘’LGBT-free zone stickers’’. sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
LGBT people have suffered physical attacks, with some reporting threats for their lives. LGBT people of białystok have to stay inside their homes in fear of going outside and being targeted.
the least that you can do is to spread this and make sure people all over the world recognise how horrendous the situation in poland is. because it’s really fucking bad.
NO you DON'T get to excuse throwing literal fucking rocks at people with the fact that you're religious. You DON'T GET TO say you're """protecting""" Christian values while beating up another human being because guess fucking WHAT. You're doing the EXACT OPPOSITE THING. You DON'T GET TO spread hatred and say you're doing that in God's name. You don't get to pray AGAINST other people and claim you're doing a good thing, when you're actually being fucking blasphemous and hypocritical.
Cut your bullshit about harassing people at pride parades and """protecting Christian values"""" by doing so, CUT THAT BULLSHIT. Want me to quote some fucking Bible for you? "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is LOVE."
Sincerely, a pissed-off Catholic cishet from Poland tired of people doing the shittiest, most inhumane things possible and using God's name to excuse them
Dear Straight Privilege
Today, LGBTQ+ people had their first pride march in the Polish city of Bialystok. They were attacked, beated and threatened with murder by counter-protesters belonging to the extreme nationalists who run the country.
A teenager was beaten by four grown men, while others are being warned to keep themselves safe because they may be targeted after the parade.
So don't ever tell me that pride month is unnecessary or unfair. You can walk down the street whenever you want without having to even consider the possibility that you might be attacked for being who you are.
You've never had to worry about holding hands with your partner in case it might make you a target for abuse.
We just want to be safe; to be equal; to love and be loved. Please don't make that harder by being ignorant to our struggle. Just because you don't experience it, doesn't mean it's not happening.
Kind regards,
A Frustrated Gay
