okay so I haven’t posted anything on this blog in ages but I wanted to share something with you guys

So I’m in my second year of university, my campus is a good 2 hour train/bus trip from where I live and every Thursday I had a 8am lecture. So I’d have to get up and ready around 5am and catch a train from the city at 6. I realised there was this one guy who was always on my train that day every week. He seemed really sweet, he would wait till everyone was on the off the platform till he’d walk in and take a seat on the train and we’d always find ourselves in the same carriage but a couple seats away from each other. After a while he picked up on it as well and he’d always smile when he’d see me and we’d catch the train to the other city, then get on the uni bus to campus and we’d never say a word to each other but it always made me really happy to see him. He always let everyone on the bus before him so he’d end up standing up every time and being one of the first to get off, so by the time i’d get off the bus he had already disappeared to his classes.

I remember one time it was raining and the the exit door in the middle of the bus stopped working. The bus driver asked him if he could forcibly pull it shut And he basically did the captain America scene thing where he like is pulling the helicopter hahah. I was just sitting on the opposite side of the bus watching and holding back clapping after he pulled it closed.

I had only run into him twice on campus, one time at a burger place where he was sitting down with his friends and he smiled and said hi when I walked past, and another time while I was in a studio working on my design project and he walked into the room and waved and I went back to working and my friend said he walked back in stopped and looked like he was about to come over and talk then walked off.

We went through an entire semester without having a conversation and by the time holidays had come all my friends knew about “train boy” and begged me to just go up and start a conversation. I was really really (and still am) socially anxious and terrible at initiating conversations. But I really wanted to get to know him so once the holidays/break finished I promised myself that id go say hi to him on Thursday morning. I got to the station and he wasn’t there and I thought maybe his days had changed, he had swapped classes? But I never saw him again, I ended up just assuming he moved to another university closer to our city.

So its been over a year since then, I hadn’t thought about him in a while, whenever I caught a train part of me still hoped we’d run into each other on an off chance but it never happened. Last month my friend made me a tinder account and convinced me to try it out, and although I hadn’t met up with anyone from it yet, I’ve had so many great conversations with some really interesting people, so i’ve kept the app. Thursday night I was sitting at home swiping through and was 90% sure I saw the train guy. I “super liked” him and hoped he’d match back just so I could talk to him, I was hoping it was him because it would have been really really awkward if it wasn’t (I haven’t really ever super liked anyone before). The next day he matched and I messaged him and was like this is really weird but did you used to go to my uni and he replied and said “Not weird at all, the city train line at like 5:30 (ungodly hour) going all the way to coast right?”

I was so amazed he actually remembered me and we’ve been talking for the last couple of days now. He was actually studying in a similar design course like mine and the semester that I met him was actually his final one before he graduated. I’m so beyond excited to get to know him, I wasted half a year holding back conversations.
