My 2020
Well 2020 turned out to be quite the year. It got off to a brilliant start with the birth of my niece Nancy all the way back in January. Throughout this year, she has just become more and more adorable. I can't believe she's 1 in a couple of weeks. It seemed like yesterday I was having my very first video call with her merely hours after she was born.
March soon arrived which started pleasantly enough with my mum's 50th birthday. And then, Covid-19 struck down on all of us causing a global pandemic and forcing us to isolate ourselves from family and friends.
The following 4 months kind of blended into one. I started working from home which actually wasn't bad given that I was primarily perched on top of my bed whilst doing my work. The release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons provided an endearing form of escapism for me in between shifts. Not being able to see Nancy, my sister, my mum or my gran was pretty tough but we were able to chat daily via video calls. And when lockdown restrictions were lifted during the summer, we formed our support bubble so at least we could still have contact with each other.
August was a notable month as it was my 30th birthday. Unlike the sh*tshow that was my 29th, my 30th was very relaxed and enjoyable. Just a quiet birthday meal at home, which was IMO better than having a big party (not that I could have one this year anyway what with lockdown and my lack of friends).
September wasn't as great as both me and brother contracted Covid following his visit to a scruffy flea pit of a pub. A pub that was also frequented by a 23 year old super-spreader who thought it would be a good idea to throw a house party and then go on a pub crawl following his month-long holiday in Ibiza. We were very fortunate that, for us, it was little more than a bad cold. The same can't be said though for the hundreds of thousands of people who have been affected by Covid. Since then, I've been wearing my face mask every time I go into a public indoor space and constantly sanitising my hands and not seeing anyone else outside of my small support bubble. And now that my region is in Tier 4, I can now cross out going shopping on my not-to-do list. Still, better safe than sorry.
October was pretty much the same as the previous 6 months. But in November, I found out that I was again at risk of redundancy. Cue 6 weeks of job searching and interviews before I eventually landed a new temp role within a different part of the business. I'm pleased to be starting a new role in 2021. Even though it's only for 6 months, it's still a great opportunity to gain new work experience.
And now with barely a few hours of 2020 left, I'm determined to make 2021 the year to focus on myself and my loved ones and not worry about things out of my control. And I hope things will get better in 2021 for all our sakes.
Bye 2020. Don't come back now you hear me?

Bring it on 2020
2019 for me has been pretty up and down. Well mostly down or somewhere in the middle with my birthday being one of the lowest points. However, this past month hasn't been that bad at all. Christmas day was nice at my mum's and my big treat for myself (a Nintendo Switch) just arrived today which I've been playing on all day.
2020 is already going to be a noteworthy year for me as my sister's baby girl is due in February. I'm really looking forward to becoming an aunt and having a new sense of purpose in my life. Also I'm returning to work in January so hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things there. And I'm planning on doing more YouTube vids in the new year so watch this space.
I have a feeling that there will be a lot more in store for 2020. But for the time being, I'm just going to take every day as it comes and not fret too much about the future. 2019 has been a pretty tough year but if anything it has taught me quite a lot too.

I asked my sister if I could get my future niece this for next Halloween. She politely declined.
