Annabeth giggled softly. “I don’t think they’d have an isue with it, you just need to make sure.” She smiled, giving Fletcher a beaming grin and a thumbs up.

He nodded, “it’ll be fun. You can meet Hudson and Jude.” He looked at her then added, “hey Huds, you’re gonna stay there still right?” He didn’t want his brothers to leave as soon as he started talking. “Of course not. We’ll be here all summer, promise.”

Annabeth giggled. “I’m the dancer here. Though I like singing too, I don’t think I’m good at it” She shrugged. “And yup, you draw very well.” She ruffled his hair with a grin.

“Hey, Fletch, maybe we can take you out to lunch? Celebrate your new talking discovery. You could bring Anna if you wanted,” he listened as Hudson suggested they do lunch and looked at Anna, “sure, if you wanted to. You have to ask the camp but sure.”

Annabeth let out a bright giggle. “He hasn’t kissed me, but I’d like to think I fit that score.” She teased, patting Fletcher’s hand. “And Jude is the graceful one? Awww, but Hudson sounds like he’d make a wonderful dancer.”

Jude let out a loud laugh, “Hudson, a dancer? Guy’s got two left feet.” He heard Hudson smack Jude and shook his head, “Sadie, my sister, she’s the dancer. Hudson’s a boxer, sorta, Jude’s kind of a geek about like science, Asher’s the singer and I guess I draw.” He shrugged as he basically named his family stereotypes. “Bud, have you gotten in touch with mum and dad yet? I don’t want to out your talking if you haven’t yet.” He shook his head, “not yet.”

Annabeth giggled softly at the story, frowning and grabbing Fletcher’s hand as Hudson started to talk about the assaulters. She gave him a small smile. “You’ll be ok.” She whispered. “I’m here to help in any way I can.”

Hudson must have sensed Fletcher was upset, “hey, don’t you think for one second we’d ever let any of them hurt you again. Fletch, we’ve got your back.” There was a door slam in the background and a short discussion between the brothers before Jude shouted a greeting towards Fletcher and asked if he’d kissed any smoking hot teenage misfits yet. He rolled his eyes, “not yet.” The clatter in the background of Jude dropping something as he was shocked by Fletcher’s voice echoing through the phone made him chuckle. “Jude’s the graceful one,” he said towards Anna.

Annabeth giggled brightly, resting her shoulder on Fletcher’s shoulder. “He surprised me at lunch. Best surprise I’ve had in a while.” She nodded, holding the phone up between them.

“Fletch is full of surprises. Hey remember the time you wanted to bake a cake like a rainbow cake and just ended up making a bowl of cake crumble mixed with frosting?” He chuckled and nodded, he remember. He also remembered Jude dumping said bowl on Asher’s head and Asher about had a fit. “Hey, mum told me to tell you, and I know it’s not your favorite topic buddy, but they convicted the three of the boys with felony assault. They’re going away for 8 very long years.” He nodded slowly, “what about Tyler?” He sighed, “we haven’t heard back from his trial. They’re charging him with attempted murder, intent to murder, and assault with a deadly weapon, if they convict he’ll be gone for a very long time.” He nodded, “okay.”

Annabeth nodded, curling up on her bed and patting it for Fletcher to join her. “Hi Hudson, this is Annabeth, Fletcher’s friend? He wanted to call.” She smiled over at him.

You could hear Hudson smiling as Fletcher sat on the bed listening to him. “Hey buddy, how’s camp going? Making friends? Besides Annabeth?” He rolled his eyes listening to him. He took a deep breath and uttered a soft “hey, Huds.” There was a thud in the background like he’d dropped something, a scuffle, and then Hudson’s voice again, “hey Fletch. Hey buddy, it’s so good to hear your voice.”

Annabeth smiled, opening her cabin door. “Have a cell number for your brother of choice?” She smiled.

He nodded and dialed the number quickly to Hudson’s phone. “It’s Hudson’s, he’s more likely to answer than Jude honestly.” He pressed call and waited until Hudson’s voice entered the room, “Hello?”

Annabeth nodded, standing and holding up her phone. “Come on, we’ll go to my cabin so it’s quiet.” She smiled softly. “Are you going to talk to them? Or do you want me to translate again?”

He picked his plate up to dump and shrugged, “dunno.” He grabbed an extra apple and water before following after Anna towards her cabin.

Annabeth smiled softly. “your voice fits YOU.” She ruffled his hair. “It suits you. Very much so. And you know I tend to ramble.” She gave him a toothy grin, spinning her fork on her plate.

He shrugged lightly. He just couldn’t explain it right how he just didn’t know how to go back to being talkative and outgoing. Like his spirit didn’t have it to continue being him. “Will you call my brothers for me? I want to see how they’re doing.”

Annabeth beamed, ruffling his hair again. “You’re very welcome. It’s wonderful on sore throats and helps them stretch like thye should. Especially good for those with lost voices for various reasons.”

He smiled as he sipped his tea. “Wanna know what’s funny? I used to talk all the time like you couldn’t shut me up. Now I just don’t really know where my voice fits.”

Annabeth smiled. “One moment.” She murmured before slipping away, coming back a couple minutes later with a warm drink. “There.” She smiled. “Warm tea with a bit of honey and lemon. It helps soothe the throat and warms the vocal chords.”

He shrugged and continued his meal looking up when she came back. He took the drink and sipped it slowly. “Mmm, it tastes good,” he commented softly. “Reminds me of the tea mum makes when I’m poorly. Thanks.”

“I know something that could help your throat.” She offered softly. “And mums is a shorter word for  Chrysanthemum.” She smiled. “It’s a pretty flower that looks almost ruffled.”

He looked at her curiously as he rubbed his throat, “what?” He made a mental note to go and see what a mum was and maybe draw some for his mum. He bet she would like them.

“I’m so happy for you!” She smiled. “And just think of how proud your brothers would be of you. I know I’m proud.” She nodded before grinning. “I planted daisys and tulips. I’m thinking about doing some mums.”

He nodded, they would be quite happy. He supposed his parents would too. Mums? He’d never heard about those, “what’s...” he coughed roughly and took a drink of water, “what’s a mums?”

“Because you aren’t used to it anymore?” She asked softly. “It’s OK, with practice it’ll ease back to where it was before. ” annabeth smiled

He nodded as he looked at her feels weird too. Like it’s not really my voice. What kinds of flowers did you plant anyway?

Annabeth froze, her eyes widening before beaming brightly at him. “They’re so pretty” she nodded, reaching over to fluff his hair. “And I love your accent” she murmured softly.

He blushed lightly but smiled at her, “thanks.” It still felt weird hearing his voice echo through his lungs and into the world. It was like it was a foreign sound almost not belonging to him. It kinda hurts. Talking.

Annabeth smiled softly, reaching over to pat his hand. “I was playing in it to clean something, and I planted flowers in that clearing in the woods. ”

He nodded as he listened to her while he munched on his apple and sipped his water. “Cool,” he said softly not making much deal out of it just going about meal.

“I got to play in dirt” she grinned. “Why was it boring? You ok?” Annabeth tilted her head, biting into her apple.

He nodded, he was fine. Just miss home. Which was true he did miss home. Why’d you play in dirt? He supposed she didn’t need a reason but he was curious to know regardless.
