don’t forget that it’s your life. it’s not school’s life, it’s not work’s life, it’s not your family or your partner’s life—it’s perpetually your life, for better or worse. what do you want from this life? forget happy, what motivates you to live? why are you here?
one of the privileges of listening carefully to words is that a beautiful phrase said unpretentiously by someone will resonate in your head for a long time. i carry with me phrases that have left an impression on me, that i heard in some verse, that some teacher said as if it were nothing, some conversation with a friend on a tuesday, and life is like that.
You should never feel bad about wanting to change or re-shape yourself into the person you want to be. Just because people have an old image of you in their minds, doesn’t mean it’s your responsibility to maintain that. Saying things like “what will they think of me?” will only place fear in your heart and paralyze you from reaching your greatest potential. You deserve to meet the highest version of youself during this lifetime. You can out grow, re-new, evolve as much as you desire. There’s so many layers to us, unravel and explore all of you.
Ask yourself: what’s good about this moment right now? Is the sun out? Can you hear birds? Are you drinking coffee? Can you smell freshly cut grass? Is your bed soft and warm? These little things are oh so precious and yet seem so arbitrary.
Becoming the priority and love of your own life and then letting someone experience that with you. Friends, family and lovers - experiencing the essence of you. At your best, you are love.
“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”
