Ryn didn’t much like Val Royeaux. Sure, it was pretty to look at, but there was just something about the place that made him uneasy. Perhaps it was the Orlesian nobility’s obsession with “the game” and with constant scheming to find ways to one-up each other. Politics in general didn’t particularly interest the elf, and certainly not politics that occasionally included murder.

But even so, he ended up in the Orlesian capital much more often than he would like. He tended to wander off while his companions went shopping for whatever they needed, and this time was no different; he had no intent to buy anything in the store he had walked into, but usually if he looked busy people tended not to bother him.

Usually, anyway.

It used to be a rare occasion that Madame would let Delphine go out for shopping alone, but it had happened more and more lately. Amandine wasn't exactly well at the moment, and by now, Delphine knew her friend's taste in everything far better than her mother ever could - so when Amandine wanted something, a specific book or something sweet or whatever else, Delphine was usually the one who went to buy it.

The shop she went to to get Amandine's favorite pasties (which were also Delphine's favorite, what a coincidence) was a lot less full of people today than usually, which was a very good thing. An elf dressed like her was a rare thing even in this part of Val Royeaux, and even though she was hiding her ears, people who looked close enough would quickly realize what she was.

However, just when she took her purchase from the vendor and turned around to walk away, she overlooked one of the few other customers in the shop, and ran right into him - and she fell to the floor, the box with the pasties falling with her.

Too many soldiers.

There were absolutely too many soldiers around this castle. She could take the few city guards she usually accountered on the streets of Val Royeaux, and the guards of the Mauberts too, of course - and she had even managed to make conversation with the one or other Chevalier, when Madame had set her mind on making her entertain her guests at parties, but a whole castle full of human soldiers was making her jittery, jumpy, even when she was around Amandine. And now that she was wandering the castle on her own, she was nearly panicking. And it didn't help that for some reason, her panicking mind had decided that fleeing onto the ramparts was a good idea.

Where she was promptly approached by a large guardsman.

"Hey, you! What are you doing up here?"

Delphine turned, paling as her heart nearly leapt out of her chest. She wasn't able to say anything - her tongue seemed to be frozen, and her feet as well, as the guardsman kept coming closer.

Alone he often fell into a world of his own with complete disregard for his surroundings or the people who walked near. This day was even worse for his dazed mindset because last night had yielded yet another sleepless rest. So when he jumped down the last two steps leading from Skyholds’ main entrance he had paid no heed to the muddy puddle or the slight elf in the splash zone. 

It was only her voice that alerted him and instantly he returned to reality. He looks at the woman and then to her dress and the muddy puddle he was still stood in. Merde. “Oh! I apologise.” he responds, letting her tone go all things considered. He would have been pissed as hell too. Perhaps he could find her a suitable replacement, or somewhere to wash it. The comment that slides off her tongue next however. 

”Excuzes moi?” because he knew she wasn’t expecting that. He frowns, arms folding. “I was going to offer you help with this.” he gestures to the dress and continues indignantly. “But if you insist on mewling like a pathetic kitten you’re more than welcome to carry on.”

The girl paled when he answered her in Orlesian, but when he insinuated she was 'mewling like a pathetic kitten', her cheeks filled with color again. She puffed herself up, her expression perfectly indignant.

"Well, excuse you very much!" she hissed at him, still in Orlesian. "I might 'mewl like a pathetic kitten', but at least I'm not some blind mule, going around insulting people after I ruined their clothes!"

She gave him a disdainful once-over. "Though as I see you should know quite a bit about ruined clothes. My dress likely costs more than your whole outfit." She wrinkled her nose at him.

"Never trust a human," he shook his head in genuine warning. "Even the ones that seem nice." His head tilted and a crooked, albeit sad, little smile crept onto his face at how lovestruck she was. Poor thing. "Well…there are actually a lot of ways to get someone to kiss you.” Mac happened to know about 85% of them. "It’s all about timing, and alcohol. You just have to make them think it’s their idea.”

"I don't trust her," she quickly adds, just so she doesn't look like an idiot in front of her friend. "I just want to kiss her. You don't need to trust somebody so they kiss you, do you?"

"If I give Amandine alcohol, she's going to die." That is what Madame always tells Amandine, at least. "And then I'm going to die. Or worse. Are there any ways without alcohol?"

"I've never been flogged, and I really don't think they'd do that." Up to now, she hasn't needed any additional 'motivation' to be good, after all. "She is really kind, yes. And pretty. And funny. And... ugh" She throws her arms over her head. "Do you think there's some way to make her kiss me?"
