As a child I wanted to be a butterfly I watched them dancing in the sky Hopping from flower to flower Jealous of that freedom to fly So I thought it would be quite fun To capture every one I thought if I had enough they would raise me up too Whispering to the ones I couldn’t catch “please bring me with you” To the ones I did I put them in a jar and sealed it with a lid Freedom was then mine to forbid I saw the life in the jar start to fade And I realised the terrible mistake I had made They were no longer free No longer the beautiful creatures I wanted to be Seeking forgiveness for what I had done, I opened the lid and watched them fly towards the sun
