So Subspace’s theme makes me scream every time I hear it WHY ARE MORE PEOPLE NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS
Subspace’s theme is called Atychiphobia, which is the fear of failure. Most people know this, and it does have lots of implications for his character, but I wanna talk about THE MUSIC VIDEO?????
This music video is entirely in the dark, the ONLY light source is from Sub’s crystal, okay. Specifically the one he holds in his hand, not even the one above his head. This already calls the crystal out as the point of attention. Yes, Subspace is here, yes, the song is about him, but the crystal is the focus. He is secondary to it.
He also holds it up a lot.
Places it above himself, both literally and in terms of importance.
The other wild thing about this video is how much Medkit is sprinkled in here. I’m gonna put these in chronological order and just. Just look at this.
First of all, here. This one is VERY subtle, you can barely see him, but the way the light hits his horns makes me believe it is him.
He looks like Subspace here, even has the pink crystal above his head, so this is BARELY noticeable, but it’s THERE.
Then, later, we see Subspace flash on screen a few times and then, FOR A SECOND, he’s there again, a little clearer now
Still subtle, bathed in pink, but that’s absolutely him.
This next one isn’t direct, but it’s still clearly there.
The text is inverted colors, and Subspace’s pinkish red just so happens to shift almost exactly into Medkit’s teal when inverted.
And lastly, the only time a color other than pink is used for the video-
Medkit. Standing in the dark, HIS crystal clearly visible, flashes teal for just a moment.
He starts out in the dark, subtle, unnoticeable, but he keeps appearing again and again and again. He is HAUNTING Subspace.
This isn’t a literal thing, Sub and Med canonically haven’t seen each other since the incident, but Medkit is still haunting him. First in the back of his mind, then more noticeably. Even now in this song that is SUPPOSED to be for him, he can’t stop Medkit from appearing in the subtlest of ways.
There’s also the speeding up of the song and the clock ticking in the background, and Subspace’s title as ‘The Doomed Potential’ making it clear that he is running out of time.
God. DOES ANYONE ELSE SCREAM ABOUT THIS IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT LIKE I DO……
^ the theme in question btw (music video is on yt tho)
