"That does not sound comfortable…maybe you should take care of that itch before you go on an adventure."
"Not literally, silly! It's just a saying. I heard another human say it once!" So, naturally, Ariel has to repeat it.

”I do nae suppose ye’d have any apples around here, would ye?”
"Apples? I don't think I've ever had those before!"
She has the sudden urge to try them though.
"It has been for quite some time sadly, but there are some new and returning old friends who might bring some noise."
"Really? Fantastic! My fins have been itching for an adventure."
ours is an old fairy-tale happily ever after ending.
"---It sure is quiet around here."

The Little Mermaid Concept Art
Myths & Monsters > Mermaids Have you seen sea sirens? The murmuring mermaids that make Graceful surface circles as they swim Like solar bodies in the brain of space, Velvet blooms of beauty; naked chested Soft, tan skin beneath the skull of skies... Sense untutored, he cannot see That though the frame and face Could rouse an Agamemnon to a war Or bring a king of gods to humbler form, Beneath their female image, compelling all their deeds, A motive fish-hood sways: Emblem of the other half. Blood whose branches root In ocean depths the human eye cannot possess.

Disney Sweetest Couples [03/??] - Prince Eric and Ariel
No no no no no NO--
She catches the sight of the netting too late where she's inspecting seashells close to the shore and her fins get caught and tangled in the mess. Ariel realises, with sudden dread, that this is what everyone had been worried about. That her reckless abandon would lead to danger and it looks like she's proving everyone right at the moment as she hastily, with panicked hands, tugs and pulls at the criss-cross of ropes and net, attempting to free herself.
Ariel's unsure if this is the work of a fisherman or simply litter left behind by a family at the beach, but she doesn't want to stick around and find out. "Come on--!" she bites her tongue, cheeks puffing out in concentration. If only she had something sharp with which she could cut the ropes!
Oh--! But there's footsteps and voices and someone's coming and what if they capture her? This is it, she's going to end up someone's trophy, mounted on the wall of a dimly lit den.
Swim, Ariel! SWIM!
{❀} “I’m going in the waaaaater!” The blonde gardener shouted, tossing his arms up and running into the waves joyfully, tumbling over his feet. He came up sputtering, a smile still etched onto his features as he looked back towards the beach where the other servants as well as his Young Master were seated on the sand. Mey-Rin waved at him with a smile while Bard lit another cigarette. Finnian turned and began to wade through the shallows, pausing when something caught his eye. Was that a person?
Oh! It seems the little mermaid's been noticed! She had been watching the blond in mild amusement. He seemed to really love the water -- which was admirable, since she, herself, loved the water too (How could she not? It was all she'd ever known). At times like these, it would have been in her best interest to duck under the water and return home, certain that no human could follow her. But she's curious and anxious to know something more about those pesky humans and their silly whims and so she stays put, offering a little wave while she plays with a strand of scarlet hair.
"Who are you?"
Ojàwashkwà Chesepiooc || Nakoma and Ariel
If Pocahontas were here, Nakoma reflected, they’d have enjoyed the sparkling water and blue sky on her terms. The werowance’s daughter would have buried Nakoma up to her neck, not her ankles, in sticky wet sand. With her fringe flying in her eyes, Nakoma would thrash after Pocahontas in the shallows, splashing and being splashed. Soon, somebody would be dunked, but never for too long: Which would lead to breath-holding contests, and diving for oysters so big only one could be held in both hands. If Pocahontas had come with Nakoma, Nakoma would have brought a basket so that they could tote it home between them, filled with the rough shells. But Pocahontas wasn’t here. And Nakoma was not sure why she hadn’t thought to bring a basket anyways. It was the sort of thing Nakoma did, Pocahontas or no Pocahontas. But she’d come empty-handed, as if it was having her opposite by her side that made Nakoma more responsible.
She knew better than to think that was true. It was with Pocahontas that Nakoma was a little girl again, flying through the woods with her best friend and free of responsibility. Or nearly free: A snake might be able to shed its skin easily, but Nakoma saw the practical side of things always, and she could no sooner change that, than she could fly.
Nakoma’s wonderings halted when she turned suddenly, staring out at the bay. Her puzzled eyes were met only with a cluster of the rocks that marred the otherwise-smooth surface, but Nakoma could have sworn she’d seen a flash of red, unnatural and out-of-place. Cautiously, she waded out towards the rocks: it was shallow in the area around them. She would be careful not to get dragged under by the unknown creature - if it was really there.
One is never certain whether it is bravery or sheer recklessness that drives Ariel to do the things she does. Perhaps it is a mixture of both in some ways. The human world is a fascinating Unknown to the mermaid; like a dream she can't quite wrap her hands around and mould into something solid and real. Her grotto is a reflection of that, deep under water filled with this-and-that from forgotten ships and treasures left behind by sailors and persons who have long since passed.
Even when she was younger she'd had a fascination with humans and back then, before their mother had died, her sisters had often come along with her for silly adventures, pretending to be humans by walking on the tips of their fins on the ocean's floor. That desire had only grown and had been cultivated by her father's rules after the passing of their mother. And for a long time they could not enjoy music, until Ariel had introduced it to her father again and he'd renewed his love for the sound of it.
The kingdom had been happier since then, but Ariel still felt like something was missing in her life. Like half herself was missing. It was odd, really. As much as she loved the water -- and she really did adore it despite her complaints -- she felt she just didn't belong to the water. As though it was some temporary home until she found where she really belonged. And she felt that, despite the horrified reactions from her sisters, maybe perhaps she did belong on Land. With humans.
So perhaps it is recklessness that drives her to come fully out of the water, peering over the edge of the rock and scrutinising the human before her with a deep stare, but otherwise open and friendly countenance.
"--Hiya!"
There's no harm in that, right?
