I just wanna put this out there so that maybe, maybe a difference can be made in the Steven Universe fandom.
Honestly, I think that it’s kind of insane that for a show that’s about love, diversity, and acceptance, that certain parts of the fandom have turned into the opposite of that.
And I don’t understand why.
Rebecca Sugar and the rest of the Crewniverse has given us a show that literally is the perfect package… With lessons about…
Not having to be perfect.
Being beautiful no matter what shape you are.
Loving whoever you want to love.
Instead of violence, giving others a chance to talk.
Moving on from the loss of a loved one.
Saying no to an abusive relationship.
Realizing that you shouldn’t have to try to be someone else, you should be yourself.
One of the main issues I’ve seen involves the shipping of characters. And sure, I mean, I understand why there’s some tension. We all come from such different places, and depending on our backgrounds, we find ourselves relating to certain characters in the show. And in a way, we see ourselves relating to them and wanting them to be happy with certain other characters. Honestly, go through any ship tag, and you’ll see amazing stories, and art, sometimes even original music and animation. So what if it isn’t ‘canon’ in the show? There’s so much creativity in this fandom, instead of writing a hateful post or comment, why not go put it into making art of your own? Bonding with others over the same passion you have? All of the people on the Crewniverse deserve to be respected. They’re human like us. They have their own ways that they want to express themselves, and if they do it through certain plots and certain characters on the show, we shouldn’t hate on them for it. They’re giving us what no other show has given us before. And just because they’re doing that, doesn’t mean they have to serve us everything on a silver platter. We should appreciate and realize the beauty of what they do give us, then use that to fuel our own creativity, to let it inspire us. If they took the time to look at every single one of us and put all of what we wanted into the show, there wouldn’t be any time for them to actually tell the story they want to tell, the story that all of us have fallen in love with. Why let us be separated by something as silly as who makes who happier? We all are here because we love Steven Universe, because in some way, we have made a connection with it. We should put that towards uniting the fandom and accepting others for what they like. Making our own art. Using the lessons the show teaches us and applying it to life. The last thing we should be doing is harassing the people that are a part of making this show, they are not entitled to giving us everything we want. They have their own lives and interests. They don’t have to open up and share with us, they don’t even have to keep making this show if this fandom gets to the extreme, which, in some cases, it has.
Please, everyone… Turn your hate into love, there needs to be more of that in the world.
