I don’t really have anywhere else that I feel safe to share anything

I’ve been in such a weird situation in my life, but in the middle of it all I’ve followed Artemis II mission. I’ve always loved astrophysics and anything space related, but there was really something special about this one.

I’m not sure if it’s because of the last missions ending in such tragedies, but I realized how important it is for us, as a planet, to remember how alone we actually are.

When astronauts go to space, they experience something called The Overview Effect - basically, when looking down at Earth, in a tight cabin, floating in the hostility of space, there occurs a life altering shift in perspective.

It’s funny because, in my personal life, I have been dealing with the failure of systems and structures that have failed many people (specially women) before me - and it continues to happen. In this sea of people who have been thrown aside and failed repeatedly, there is a similar effect. It doesn’t have a name, but there is a familiar feeling of change in perspective. That it doesn’t matter how bad things can get: we are never alone.

I’m so glad Artemis crew made it back safely to Earth, I’m so glad it has inspired so many individuals, I’m so glad I managed to be hopeful during such a dark time in my life.

I am sad so many women relate to what I’m going through and I relate to their stories and experiences, but I’m so glad I’m not alone.
