Lady Gaga, upon releasing her hit song Born This Way (2011) in the album with the same name, started the Equal Rights Movement when she declares “No matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgendered life”, and later “No matter black, white or beige, chola or orient made” (Born This Way, 3:02, 2011), breaking the barriers between minorities in gender, sexuality, and race all in those nineteen simple words. Without Lady Gaga, and her masterful musical creations, human rights would not exist.
Furthermore, in the same song, Miss Gaga single handedly invented Drag Queens and Drag Culture. The line “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen” (Born This Way, 1:29, 2011) was undoubtedly equivocal to God from the Bible speaking “let there be light: and there was light” (Genesis 1:1), for in that moment, Lady Gaga created from nothing an entire pop culture subdivision centered around drag queens.
Many people mistake RuPaul for being the sole Creator of Drag Culture, and this is a common misconception. However, RuPaul was just another creation of Lady Gaga’s iconic Born This Way. Seeing his birth as an opportunity for success, RuPaul simply capitalized on the new culture that emerged from Gaga’s cerebral womb, and is now exploiting Drag Culture for the sole purpose of exacerbating his previous success. It’s Lady Gaga’s world; RuPaul’s just living in it.
