Kabu almost choked on his smoothie. “Is-is she now?”

Good lord, it’s like everything was enabling his greedy side today. Or was this the universe telling him to go for it? To take his chance before he missed it again?

Kabu cleared his throat to dislodge some lingering berry bits from his throat. “Have you… taken up on that? Is there someone in your life?”

He startles as Kabu nearly chokes, rising from his seat in worry. “Whoa! You alright, mate?!”

When Kabu is not, in fact, dying, he settles back down into his chair. “Phew! thought I was gonna have to start administerin’ CPR, there!”

He thinks for a moment before answering. Fuck it. He might as well. “Not yet, but I do got my eyes on a guy. Not a clue if he fancies me back, though.”

fight fight fight fight:

Rose couldn’t stop the gasp that came out of him. He was why? Oh, that did it. For once in his life, Samar was pissed. Peony’s words struck a chord with him, and he wasn’t about to just sign off on something without saying a few words. 

“You want me to sign it so bad?” he snapped back, “Fine.” he clicked a pen ( his brother would like the click, under different circumstances ), put it to the paper, and signed it with a dramatic flourish, “There. Take it.”

His mouth nearly curled into a snarl, “But let me tell you, Peony. You have no idea how hard I’ve worked to be here, either. You want to hear about all the flack I’ve gotten from him for not being his perfect little pawn? No, you don’t- because all you do is complain and think I’m always out to get you!” 

“I’ll find someone else, don’t you fucking worry.” 

Never mind the fact that he doesn’t know how he’ll do it.

“Oh, aren’t you just a fuckin’ hero! Look at you, already deflectin’ the blame, just like him! Mighty fine chairman you’ll make!” He snatches the forms from Samar’s desk. “Bet you’ll have droves of people waitin’ to kiss your arse and shower you with all the fuckin’ praise you could ever want! You think you’re so fuckin’ special, being the favourite, the second I do something, you can’t stand not bein’ in the goddamn spotlight!”

All you do is complain. That sets off something deep within Peony, something ticking and brewing for years. Before he can even think twice about it, he’s raised his fist and brought it as hard as he can into his brother’s nose. He scowls at Samar, shaking out his hand.

“Just like him. You can never be the one in the wrong! Always gotta be the other person’s fault! Lemme tell you, I can’t fuckin’ wait for that attitude to come back and bite you right in your sorry arse one day. Don’t miss me.”

A resignation form.

Samar’s stomach drops as he notes the papers in from of him, slammed down by his humorless brother. “Wh…” he can barely think of anything to say, green eyes wide as he processes. 

“Peony-” he manages to force out, “You’re- why are you resigning??” He’s confused, more than anything- his brother had only been Champion for a short time- what reason did he have?

He breaks. “Why the fuck do you think I’m resigning?! For once I do something on my own. I get compared to you for every little fuckin’ thing, and the moment I do something on my own, you just have to step up and do me one better, huh?! You have no fuckin’ idea how hard I’ve worked to get here!”

“Just sign the fuckin’ thing.” He glowers at his brother. “Or are you gonna be just like daddy dearest and keep me from leavin’?”

“That’s good to hear…” So that means I can make my move soon…?

For Arceus’ sake, Kabu! Since when have you not been able to control yourself like this? You’re not a teenager, haven’t been for decades.

“How is Nia handling all this?”

“Pretty alright over the years, I’d reckon.” He shrugs. “She’s always been a mature lass. She was pretty shaken up when it happened, of course, but she’s been handlin’ it real well, all things considered.”

He thinks for a moment before he speaks again. “She’s been teasin’ me about findin’ myself someone again. I ain’t opposed to the idea, of course! Real sweet, how she wants t’see her papa happy!”

Samar turned upon hearing the door slam, not expecting anyone in his office at this hour. He’d just finished unpacking - setting up his desk, and his new shiny office - who could need him right now-?

The newly minted Chairman furrowed his eyebrows in concern, “Peony?” his Champion did not look pleased. Rather, he looked ready to break his spine, given the opportunity, “…I just got here- I hope I haven’t done anything to upset you yet-” he tried to joke, the effort futile. 

His scowl doesn’t waver. He marches himself up to Samar’s desk, and slams down a small booklet of papers.

A resignation form.

“I’m not stickin’ around.” He taps an empty line; the chairman’s signature, all the written permission he needs to leave. “Sign it.”

BOY does he ever. it may seem silly to some people, but calling him by his middle name upsets him to a very high degree. also, corviknight taxis. an accident with one resulted in his wife’s death, so to say he isn’t keen on them is a huge understatement

generally speaking, there isn’t a huge difference. the first impression he gives to many people is that he’s very loud, maybe a bit obnoxious, but a genuinely friendly and caring guy. this is all true, but those who get to know him deeper do know of his more serious side, even if he tends not to use it very often

Kabu nodded solemnly. He understood that feeling.

But at the same time, a part of him was hopefully raising its head. Did this mean that Peony was single now? Did this mean that Kabu had a chance?

Kabu tried to stuff that thought away. He had just heard about Peony’s wife. Have some decency!

“Are… are things alright now?” he asked carefully.

He shrugs. “For the most part, yeah. Been goin’ to grief counselling or whatever, so I like to think I’m makin’ progress. Ain’t easy work, but it’s better for me and Nia that I work it all out, eh? I don’t want her havin’ a dad too caught up in his own shite to spend any time with her.”

HIS MAJESTY:

Calyrex laughed quietly at the Chief’s outburst, and the inclusion of his favorite term for the bunny king’s head. Big ol’ noggin. He’d be a very disappointed king if Peony ever called it anything else.

He thought for a moment, before he shut his eyes, Well, I did sort of… possess you. I feel as though anyone would be sufficiently finished with me after that sort of thing, especially with how many times I did it to you.

The king could almost distinctly remember the man’s words right before being possessed the last time.

“Not again-” 

He dismisses the King’s worries with a casual wave of his hand. “Eh, water under the bridge! Sure, I was frustrated in the moment, but I’ve had it all explained to me now, eh? Was for a good cause, so I ain’t gonna be too hung up on it!”

He may not be the best with deciphering emotional cues, but he knows worry when he sees it. “Really, it’s nothin’ to worry about, mate! I’m A-okay! No hard feelings!”

Peony is not happy as he marches up to a specific office door, absolute murder in his eyes. He had been happy, he finally felt like he’d made a name for himself outside of his damned brother’s shadow.

Of course the bastard had to go and do something about that, huh?

He knocks on the door once, before deciding that waiting around would be pointless. He swings the door open with a loud clatter, letting himself in before he’s been given permission.

“Samar.” He doesn’t offer the newly appointed Chairman a smile. “What a fuckin’ surprise.”

OJFJGJFDHGFDHJ... I wanna say no, but peony is quite scatterbrained so he probably Has. he was absolutely mortified and apologized profusely. nia probably still makes fun of him for it.
