FLOR: YOU NEED TOÂ âGET BEHIND THISâ
This Portland raised, Los Angeles based band was predestined for success, showcasing themselves as the whole package-pure, wholesome, raw talent with inner city vibes and determination. And lots and lots of hair.
The quartet had a humble start, releasing their sounds EP one year ago on their Soundcloud. Since then, theyâve released their fair share of remixes and new songs (including my personal favorite, âUnsaidâ), also making their way into Spotify and iTunes, all while touring around the U.S and Canada.
And tour they have, moving straight from a tour with Colony House and Coin to join Halsey on her Badlands tour, only recently getting off the road last week after the North American leg of Badlands wrapped up in Los Angeles on Thursday. These guys were on the road for a better part of 2015, performing every show with the same positive aura and purely beautiful sounds as the night before.
âNow I know you probably donât know many, or any, of our songs, and thatâs okay. But youâll definitely know this one,â lead singer Zach says as guitarist McKinley tunes up his instrument. âYou see, itâs our drummerâs birthday, and weâd love if you helped us sing to him,â Zach continues. Dylan smiles a bit, letting his bass hang on its strap while fixing his in-ears.  âHis name is Kyle, by the way.â
The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles was then blessed by a very intimate performance by the group as they opened for Halsey on that Wednesday night in November. From my convenient spot in the pit, I could see a genuinely thankful smile on each of their faces (especially Zach-that boy thanked us five too many times), a true love for what they were doing, and a sense that they were as immersed in their sounds as we were and had a genuine belief in what they were doing and the show they were putting on for us.
Flor has a beautiful and contagious pop alternative sound that is versatile throughout seasons and moods, managing to be both minimalistic and colorful in each of their tracks, which, paired with their enthusiastic and awe-inspiring stage presence and personalities, will soon bring these boys to the front of public vision. Be sure to back up these boys while they are fresh (as they are sure to remain).Â
