Inktober Day 1 | Scariest Pokedex Entry;

It begins! I’ll be going off the Prompt List I made that you’ll see in the 2nd photo, and while I’m not sure if each day will have this much detail (it’s a lot for me), I’m hoping to learn a lot by participating in Inktober this year, and I’ve already learned quite a bit from this first one..I’ll be posting them on IG daily, but probably only posting my favorites (or cluster posts each week) on FB. I hope you all enjoy seeing my practice ~

In the last two months my audience on my art blog and personal has grown at a kind of alarming rate. I’m very humbled and happy that people are sharing and seeing my art. It means a lot! I like sharing what I got, ya know? I appreciate y’all sticking around with as much as I bitch about video games and work LOL. Just returned from a trip to the Cévennes in France! I felt so inspired by the gorgeous, lush landscape. Here’s some of the sketches I made during my trip, based on pictures I took there.

Ahh WELL there are a million different ways to draw armor, I personally use the warcraft methodTM for obvi reasons. I’ll usually draw some big blocky simple shapes for armor, add in the shadows, and then go over it with texture. Add some chips and nicks so it looks battle worn, but you can leave it smoother depending on the type of character wearing the armor. Becca Hallstedt has some amazing tutorials (that r a lot better then mine) for shadows and texture def check them out! Link1 Link2

I just made a post on it! I struggle a LOT with having the colors getting muddy when I paint from greyscale, this is the first time I’ve gotten it to work for me so I’m not en expert on the matter sadly. I think it helped that I stuck with a fairly limited color palette of blues and reds, as I think they’re the easiest colors to work with. Keep experimenting! Colors are HARD but you can do it

“As the American-born daughter of two Mexican immigrants, I illustrate their plight and the plight of many in my community with my art. I want to expose the heart-breaking pain of what a Mexican immigrant’s family goes through. I focus on bringing my family’s world into the light and out of the shadows. My paintings are best described as visual comments on the hidden daily reality of the Mexican-American experience. These portraits and still lifes reveal my family in their own authentic environment and expose how I live in two worlds. My paintings layer the American culture over the Mexican world. I feel society needs to be aware of the humanity on the other side of the door. The two most important people in my life, my parents, are also the two who motivated me to develop such a strong concept. When my parents pose for these paintings, their faces are reduced to extremely raw and somehow vulnerable expressions. Sadly, they strive to be invisible every day. They don’t have to pretend to illustrate the invisible. They have dealt with constant rejection, suspicion and fear so long, that it seems now that it comes naturally to them. I strive to capture how their expressions deliver that sense of tiredness, resignation, and quiet acceptance. It seems relevant to show that underneath all the politicization and undeserved labeling this community receives, these are regular people just like all of us. In the long tradition of immigrants that come to the United States, they have made homes here and they are just trying to live a simple life with a bit of security and hopefulness for their children. - Criselda Vasquez
