Hello again.
Trying to remember where I left off... I'm currently researching how to make stop-motion puppets for the short film I'm working on. I originally had a plan to use live actors but shoot in a stop-motion style, but I quickly realized that approach presented a ton of problems that I don't have the resources to figure out at the moment. So instead, I'm going to take a stab at fully embracing the stop motion approach with puppets, mini sets, etc.
I was an artist (still am one lol) before I got into film, and I'm having fun finding ways to bring those skills like drawing and painting and sculpting into my film work. I did some production design for a friend's film around this time last year and it came out pretty well, I must say. 1,000 hand-distressed papers put up one by one in an empty white room, most of which was done by yours truly.
I'm still quite proud of this. Here's me holding up production to get a pic of myself with my work before we shoot and tear it all down:
All of that is to say I'm fairly confident in my ability to create some nice, functional puppets and small-scale sets. It will be quite different from spending 3 nights drowning stacks of printer paper in balsamic vinegar, but I'm up for the challenge. I will be back soon with designs and prototypes to share!
