SUMMARY: When you only planned to go out for drinks with friends, but end up needing a way out when a man won’t leave you alone.
DISCLAIMERS: creepy bar weirdos, uhhh hiiiii HANDSY KEEHO. # protective stranger, no smut bc im still too shy to write that guys but dw ill lock in ok? but ig u can imagine u guys banged idk Lmk ur thoughts.
You regretted coming here the second you stepped inside, but leaving would’ve felt sillier than staying — so instead, you settled onto a barstool and tried to make the best of it. After buying one drink, you began mentally debating on a second for after — just to kill time while you waited for your friends who were already twenty minutes late, and still texting you that they were “on the way.”
The bar itself wasn’t bad, dim lighting softened the room, the music was loud enough to blur conversations into background noise, and people packed close enough that no one would’ve been able to pay you any attention, and yet, you still felt it. Someone’s gaze lingered too long — and your space no longer felt like yours.
And it didn’t take long for that feeling to turn into an actively irritating mosquito that you couldn’t swat away.
He had been hovering for a while before he said anything, close enough that you were hyperaware, and hoping he would somehow take the hint without you having to give it to him directly.
He didn’t though, of course.
“So,” He began, his arm coming to rest against the bar a little too close to yours, “What’s a pretty girl like you doing out alone tonight?”
You didn’t look at him. You lifted your drink instead, taking a slow sip. “I’m not alone.”
There was a pause, and then a soft hum. “Looks like it.”
You shifted your body slightly, angling away to create space that he immediately filled again, clearly not registering what you were doing.
Or actually he just didn’t care.
Your fingers tightened around your glass, condensation dampening your grip as your patience thinned. You gave him short answers, nothing that could carry a conversation forward, but he kept trying anyway, leaning closer each time.
You exhaled through your nose, setting your glass down a little harder than necessary. “Take the hint.” You finally said, turning just enough to meet his eyes. “I have a boyfriend.”
Obviously, that was far from true —and honestly, it didn’t even sound convincing coming out of your mouth.
But you said it anyway! Hoping it would be enough to shut him down.
Wrong.
He smiled like you just told him something mildly entertaining, leaning in even closer instead of just backing off like you’d hope. “Oh yeah?”
Your stomach dropped, irritation turning into something tighter and uncomfortable. You were already bracing yourself to repeat it, probably even louder this time, when suddenly the space around you shifted.
A hand had slid around your hip.
You didn’t have time to react before it pulled you back, your body now fitting against someone else’s chest in one smooth motion that felt practiced.
Their hand slid upward from your hip, palm dragging along your side in a way that made your brain circuit — the movement felt deliberate, and they were taking their sweet time.
Your body reacted before your thoughts could catch up, heat rushing wherever their touch followed. By the time their hand reached your waist, it settled there firmly, fingers spreading just enough to keep you right where they wanted you.
“There you are.”
His voice was low and close enough that you felt it more than heard it at first, the sound brushing past your ear as your breath caught.
For a moment, you went completely still. Because what the fuck.
Then, gaining all the courage you could, you turned your head just enough to look up, and recognition hit almost instantly.
You had noticed him earlier, but not on purpose. Upon entering the bar, you were quick to spot him from across the room, laughing with someone and leaning against a wall — it was no secret that he was handsome, god he was beautiful, and that’s exactly why he caught your eye.
And now he was right behind you, his hand still resting at your waist, holding you in place like it was the most natural thing in the world.
His eyes met yours briefly, completely unreadable, but there was something in them that made it clear he understood exactly what was happening without you having to say a word.
“Oh—” The guy in front of you hesitated, clearly thrown off now, his attention snapping between the two of you, “I didn’t know you were—”
“Yeah,” The stranger cut in smoothly, finally giving him a look — his tone was flat, leaving no room to argue.
His hand shifted slightly against your side, fingers pressing just enough to ground you, while his thumb brushed once along your bare waist in a slow, absent motion that made your breath catch again.
“She gets a little distracted sometimes,” He added, like it was an inside joke, something casual to sound real without trying too hard.
The difference was immediate. The guy in front of you had straightened, whatever confidence he had before was slipping now that you were not alone and someone else had stepped in to take up the space beside you in a way he couldn’t compete with.
“Well… she didn’t say—”
“Oh, but I think she did.” He didn’t raise his voice and the way he said it made it clear this conversation was over.
The guy muttered something under his breath, stepping back, and within seconds he disappeared into the crowd, leaving you standing there with someone you had never met still holding you like he had every reason to.
And he didn’t even let go right away.
His arm stayed around your waist, his body angled behind yours, close enough that you could still feel the steady rhythm of his breathing.
“You okay?” He finally asked — his voice softer now, closer to your ear.
You nodded, a little too quickly. “Yeah. I’m— I’m good. Thank you.”
His grip loosened then, not all at once, but you were now able to turn. His hand slid slightly along your waist as you shifted to face him, but you didn’t step away from it.
There was barely any space between you two, so close that you could actually take him in properly. You noticed the way his hair fell slightly out of place, and the subtle curve of his mouth that was holding back a smile. You admired the way his eyes lingered on you just a second longer than necessary.
“Didn’t mean to invade your space like that, just thought you might needed a hand,” He explained himself, edged with something that sounded amused.
A small breath of a laugh slipped out of you. “No, thank you — I appreciate it.”
Your pulse picked up again, and you were suddenly very aware of how close he still was and of the way his hand hadn’t fully left you, resting lightly against your side.
“Do you always pretend to be strangers’ boyfriends, or am I just special?” You asked, tilting your head just slightly, trying to keep your voice steady.
That got a reaction. Something sweet settled into his expression and irmade your chest tighten.
“Depends,” He said, his voice dropping slightly. “You planning on needing me again tonight?”
Your breath caught at the question. “Maybe,” You admitted.
A quiet smile pulled at his lips, something almost satisfied in it. “Then I think your boyfriend should at least get you another drink.”
You raised a brow, a hint of a smile breaking through. “I think my boyfriend owes me his name first.”
He let out a soft laugh. “Fair.” His gaze still fixed on yours and he wasn’t in any hurry to look away. “Keeho.”
You repeated it with a small smile, giving your name in return.
Keeho leaned in slightly, closing what little space was left between you, his gaze holding yours. “Now… how about that drink?” He murmured, his grip at your waist tightening just enough to remind you it was still there.
You let out a quiet breath, a smile tugging at your lips despite yourself, your gaze staying locked on his. “By all means.”
His lips curved, something satisfied settling in his expression as a low laugh slipped out.
“Good answer.”
