connie’s eyes flicked over to the couple and shrugged lightly. she wasn’t exactly one to talk - she was a big fan of pda herself. “ at least they have each other, “ she answered. “ in my experience, people who have a problem with such public displays are usually just jealous, “ she added,  a sharp eye falling on mia.

❛ ◈    “AND IN MY EXPERIENCE, women who make other women out to be jealous over a presumed lack of romance are inherently misogynistic,” amelia counters as she raises her to go coffee cup to her mouth. the brown in her eyes shift towards connie but she keeps her heard forward. “and that staring so intensely to crows feet.”

wide, chocolate orbs slid from the dimmed screen of her phone, assessing the…over-the-top displays of affection that the younger girl had been referring to. a slighted smile drew the corners of ivy’s full lips up, amusement sparkling within her gaze. “you could always just tell them to knock it off, you know. it’s not that difficult.”

❛ ◈    “WHEN HE EVENTUALLY swallows her whole from sucking too hard, i would like to be a considerable distance away. wouldn’t want to get dragged down with her,” mia explained, tone casual as the day. she glanced behind her, suspiciously eying the older brunette. she looked faintly familiar somehow. mia had a photographic memory, she remembered just about every face she sees. she just couldn’t place her.

he shrugged at her question. “their priorities are messed up,” toby stared at the couple. “like, right now they care more about each other’s tongues then air. it’s almost impressive.” he laughed at the image of amelia spraying them down with a fire hose. “while i would love to see that, that feels like a cause to sue you. though i bet if you get record it and upload it on youtube, you’d get enough ad revenue to pay for the lawsuit.”

❛ ◈    MUCH TO HER OWN SURPRISE,  she laughed. mia wasn’t in the habit of letting people think they were funny but that one snuck up on her. “it’s a good thing that i’m a lawyer, then,” she explained. her lopsided grin was filled with cheeky pride as she glanced back at tobias. “once the case is thrown out i’ll countersue on so many charges, you’ll never have faith in the justice system again.” a joke, of course. but she probably could.

esme eyed the couple with a look of distaste. “i’m sure it is.” she muttered. the couple didn’t seem bothered by the many looks they were receiving, and they also didn’t seem to be ending their display anytime soon. “do you think if we do call the fire department, they’ll hose ‘em down or something? that’d be pretty cool to watch.” 

❛ ◈    “JUST GIVE ME A CUP and access to the faucet, i’ll hose them down myself,” mia promises with a smirk. she looked away, shaking her head. she was fine with public displays of affection but they were being too much about it. “it’d be an honor.”

            “i’m many things but misogynistic isn’t one of them.” he was rather appalled she referred to him that way, he was anything if not progressive for how old he actually was— but atticus didn’t know that. “yeah well,” he paused.”things change.” tone suddenly seemed a little more monotone than their previous statements but quickly brushed it off. “defensive— argumentative— entertaining. same difference.”

❛ ◈    “ARE YOU ALWAYS THIS DEFENSIVE ?”  amelia asked. her mocking question was met with a head tilt and she was more amused than she let on. funny how quickly things could go in full circle like that. “argumentative ? i’ll accept. entertaining ? quite often. but defensive is out of my hands- need that in order to be the best at what i do.”

to say that falon was going through it would be to understate it. in order to avoid going back under the curse, she had decided to exploit the coven’s loophole. the curse couldn’t get her if she never went to sleep. so for the last day and a half, falon had avoided sleep by all costs. the first twenty four hours had been relatively easy—most teenagers knew how to go without sleeping. but as the second day neared its end, falon was finally starting to feel the toll. “i’m in here,” falon called out from her place at her desk, her voice rather lethargic. “it’s unlocked.”

❛ ◈    HE TOOK A BREATH before entering falon’s room. the fact that she was there at all had to mean something good- she wouldn’t very well spend the night at home if she were terrified of him. it was a thought that brought on relief. but another one brought more stress. maybe she simply didn’t remember. julian had no way of telling just by looking at the back of her head as she sat at her desk. he made his way farther into the bedroom that he personally put together just for her. while he thought his affection towards the twins would fade once his own daughter became his priority once more, that had not been the case. julian loved falon and persephone just as klaus loved marcel. they were family now, permanently. “i’m not one to dilly dally or roam around bushes,” julian said, head falling slightly to the right. “are you still aware of who you really are ?” he was risking an awkward conversation if the answer was ‘no’, but there was no room for subtly in his life.

“oh, yeah. i’m a regular- insert a cheeky woman’s name here.” joyce rolls her eyes. she can’t help but laugh as the words ‘ bloody dolphin ’ part klaus’ lips. “hey, you say that as though it’s not completely believable. if it were true, i think that would be the least shocking thing you’ve told me today.” she nodded. “oh, please. i could never be afraid of you. your drunk karaoke song is singing in the rain. a man who likes show tunes is a lot of things but i don’t think intimidating is one of them.” 

❛ ◈    IT WAS NICE TO HEAR HER LAUGH. it had been quite some time since klaus- or rather his alter ego- had seen joyce at peace. she was always this force of anxiety held together by flesh and bones. it was a big reason as to why he was so protective of her, even now. “gene kelly is a bloody classic, don’t be so bold as to dare insinuate otherwise.” still, klaus’ smile remained. he was thankful that she still saw him as julian, but it wasn’t without its questions. “although i am curious to know how it is that you take all of this so.. lightly.”

❛ ◈    LUNA WASN’T NOTORIOUS  for being subtle. if anything, she was known for being the opposite. and as she eyed the blonde boy a couple table over from her with both intrigue and suspicion. she knew him from somewhere- she just couldn’t place it. the problem was she was searching her cursed life in port vista, not her life back in the wizarding world. once she was caught staring, luna’s eyes went wide and she put held up her menu. she pretended to read it while she hid, “fuck.” ╰   ❛   ◈   ❪ CLOSED FOR ANTHONY @thcdreadless )

    “You’re not wrong there.” Anthony frowned as his eyes stared at the couple. It was like he just couldn’t take his eyes away, no matter how much he wanted to. “If I ever turn into something as bad as that, you promise you’ll tell me, right?” He shivered dramatically at the thought. “Can you imagine?”

❛ ◈    ON THE VERGE OF TITTERING, a breath was forced out through mia’s nose. she couldn’t help but be amused by anthony’s equal distaste. it was refreshing to be around someone who understood. “of course i’m not,” she smirked. then she scoffed. “permission to wack you upside the head and / or throw ice water on you if you do ? ‘cause if so, deal. and, for the love of god, no. don’t make me imagine being that nauseating.”

            “but—– you’re more than your illness. it’s something i always tell my patients. it gets hard to distinguish between the person and what they’re actually going through, overbearing parents don’t help.” he didn’t want to dwell too much into what he was thinking because then he’d become what he was actually attempting to avoid. he didn’t want to be a hypocrite. he thought the world of the girl sitting in front of him. it hadn’t changed despite their ages, the decade they were in or the situation they were suddenly found in. she was his little girl no matter what. “what did i always tell you growing up? not much has changed, you’re just older.” he’d always love her. he decided that since the first moment he saw her, he held her in his arms. she’d be his priority, his world and even to that day he kept that promise despite her not being there by his side.              he noticed the change in tone in the girl, he practically held back the need to roll his eyes. he had a bad habit of doing that with the wrong people. “we— i didn’t tell you these things for your benefit. sadness and anger worsens conditions. we still stayed together long after you were gone, it didn’t just suddenly end after your passing, but obviously all you hear is what you want to.” poor choice of words, but he felt it true. “hey— don’t do that okay. we all got stuck with fake lives. i don’t have my family here. i didn’t have you here, until now. and jane—- she needed my help, she was in no way your replacement. no one could ever replace you, sara.”

❛ ◈    CHANEL CLENCHED A SINGLE FIST  as she heard the words she hated. you’re not your illness. it’s something she had heard multiple times in both of her lives. she knew its meaning meant well but she had a low tolerance for inspirational quotes that were commonly found in oncology brochures or her cursed mother’s pinterest board. but she said nothing. chanel just forced a small, convincing grin- just like she always did. it was hard to believe that she wasn’t her sickness when it’s the only thing about her people seemed to be interested in.

a scoff snuck up on her. “long after i was gone ? you just told me you divorced within the month.” the response was completely candid and involuntarily but she meant it. ‘maybe if you’re measuring it in dog years.’ chanel retorts to herself. her eyebrows furrowed as emmanuel’s tone and words became snippy. it made her become defensive of herself. “actually my ears work just fine,” she corrected. “and don’t pretend like you know me well enough to assume what i am or am not doing.” harsh but accurate- chanel wasn’t a little kid anymore. “ i just found out that my family broke up, that i now have two siblings- a step parent-” she counted on her fingers as she spoke. “oh, yeah, and that i died and was somehow resurrected.” chanel’s hands flop to her side, defeated. “everything i know is gone. so, yeah, sorry if i’m a little overwhelmed right now. by all means, tell me how i’m supposed to react to all of this information because i am all ears.”

❛ ◈    JULIAN WASN’T TYPICALLY the type to get nervous. while klaus was by no means ‘calm’, he hardly ever lost his graceful and suave demeanor ( much to the disdain of those around him ). but today, as he tapped his knuckles against the door to her bedroom, he was nervous. after jane stumbled upon klaus feeding on a bartender, he wasn’t sure they stood. and while he knew he wasn’t actually falon’s father, julian had still grown to love her like a daughter during their time together. he didn’t want to lose her. even more, he didn’t want falon to be afraid of him. “anybody home ?” ╰   ❛   ◈   ❪ CLOSED FOR FALON @fairvercna )

❛ ◈    WHEN THE TINY SILVER BELL above the door chimed it didn’t take much to ignore it. julian was very focussed on the canvas in front of him- he hardly remembered that his art gallery was meant to be a business. “come back later, we’re still closed,” he dismissed. his blue eyes never left his brush until he heard clunky footsteps wandering further into the room. julian was ready to shoo the person away a second time but his mouth closed when he saw persephone enter. “up and about ? before noon ? i must say i’m impressed.” he said. his annoyance quickly turned into a pleasant surprise. “to what do i owe this honor ?” ╰   ❛   ◈   ❪ CLOSED FOR PERSEPHONE @diiscotheque​ )

❛ ◈    JULIAN HAD ALWAYS ENJOYED visiting the local speakeasy. he had been going for years. there was something about the atmosphere of no vacancy that called to him. the dim lighting, the dramatic flair, the exclusivity of it. the just right amount of pretension. it was all enchanting to julian, as it would be to klaus. he would enjoy himself there amongst friends and strangers alike. all the while he would keep an eye on his younger daughter, who worked there as a bartender. after ‘klaus’ returned, he realized a familiar face that lurked in the memories julian had made in the speakeasy. so that night he was perched on a bar stool for a completely different reason. no company, no entourage of any kind. just a glass of scotch, nursed slowly. waiting to see if his intuition was correct. had he finally found one of his siblings, one of his fellow originals ? ╰   ❛   ◈   ❪ CLOSED FOR SEBASTIAN @prcdigiums )

he followed her line of sight. while no one could say they appreciated such obnoxious couples, toby could say he never minded them. “as long as they pretend that there aren’t other people around,” he chuckled at his own joke. “they are probably too blissfully ignorant of the world and too into each other. i’m not sure even the fire department could break them up.”

❛ ◈    “HOW DO PEOPLE DO THAT ?”  amelia muttered to herself. mauve lips curled downwards- she was both disgusted and genuinely curious. mostly disgusted. most of the time she focussed too much of her life to her studies and her work to even think about wasting time open mouth kissing in a starbucks. “give me the fire hose, i can at least blast them a foot or two to the left.”

           “no it’s called taking the easy way out. not working hard is always the way to go.” obviously, atticus worked hard, but if he didn’t have to do something he wouldn’t go out of his way to do so. he nodded his head, “maybe you’re not jealous, but maybe they are—- or them.” he pointed to two separate people staring at the couple. “are you always this defensive?”

❛ ◈    “HM.. MISOGYNISTIC AND LAZY,”  mia said. “i’m surprised a catch like you isn’t the one pressed up against the door.” her lips curled slightly upwards into a pleased grin. yes, as a matter of fact, she was. it’s what made her such an ideal future lawyer. thank you for noticing, she thought to herself. “defensive implies a certain amount of exerted effort.” that’s just how amelia naturally was.
