Wait a minute, wait a minute.
scriipturam:
“of course i want to see you make a fool of yourself, that’d be very entertaining for me.” she laughed. “let’s so who can handle their shots the best.” though that probably wasn’t the best idea for her. she was small, petite and didn’t drink that often. she wasn’t exactly the best at handling her drink. “well i usually am right, you’ll find that out. but why not appreciate talent in any form you find it? it’s people that look past you that will be the people wanted your autographs once you make it, just remember that.” she laughed and rolled her eyes. “please you can’t sound too cocky in front of me. my overconfidence is ridiculous. but keep that confidence and spark and you’ll make it big.” she was confident in that, he had the charm and charisma of a talented performer, she could spot talent from a mile away. “oh definitely, milk them for all it’s worth.”
“well i’m all about the entertainment,” toby shrugged. he smirked at her challenge. he called over the bartender and ordered them their first round. “let the games begin,” he laughed as he handed her a shot. he didn’t even wait for her before downing his. “i have to say,” he coughed before clearing his throat. “i like you. you really get it. sorry for any and all assumptions i may have made about you being some entitled actress.” he apologized for his unspoken feelings. he had nothing to base his assumptions off of, besides some gut feeling. he felt guilty, in hindsight, since she was one of the few people that seemed to understand that artistic struggle. “thanks to you, i’m gonna start making my autograph actually recognizable. and you’ll be the first one i call when i need a duet partner to swindle all the old, jealous folks with.”

❛ ◈ IT WAS THEN THAT MIA began to wonder whether or not toby was a part of this curse or if he was just a lucky guy living in the middle of it. it was impossible to tell unless you knew the person. “you agreeing makes me nervous. don’t tell me you’ve seen that before,” she scoffs as she chuckles, referring to the fire. “hm.. i don’t know. if you didn’t skip your classes, maybe you would be funny right now.”
“i mean, i haven’t, but this town has had its... off moments,” he shrugged. toby never thought much of some of the stranger occurrences, like feeling like two weeks have gone by with no real memory. also being mistaken as someone he was not. he was just really oblivious. “that’s not fair. i had more of a reason to skip my classes. they weren’t real,” he joked, though he did believe his own words. “therefore i didn’t need excuses. also you can’t teach someone to be funny when you're humor is outdated.”
scriipturam:
“oh really? you want to see me drink so i can make a fool of myself.” she laughed. “ah, not the best dancer then? i love it, been training forever. but i would definitely love to see you dance. even if it is just to get a laugh out of it.” she teased. “really? people ignore you? i love the melodic music played in the background. I always make sure to pay attention to freelancers when they sing. you never know, they might become the newest rising star.” she wanted to encourage everyone she met to hold onto their dreams, it was what had always kept her going. everyone else should be able to feel the same. “yes, the rich know how to stay rich. cheeky bastards.” though she suddenly had a feeling that in another life that could have been her.
“and you just wanna see me dance to make a fool of myself,” toby retaliated with a smirk. “maybe we can both get what we want tonight.” it probably won’t take him too many shots to get him to his ideal dancing level. if the time came, he was ready to take one for the team. "and that’s why people like you are my favorite audience members. you got the right thinking,” he smiled. toby loved when people believed in an artist’s talent, even if he ripped on himself as one a majority of the time. “not to sound cocky, just... it helps the professional confidence. kinda keeps me going. keeps the dream living.” he chuckled at her comment. something about her just made it almost humorous, though maybe it was just because he agreed. “safe to say, i will be charging those big guys more as payback if i ever make it big. gonna cost a pretty penny.”
gigilockheart:
A soft frown was quickly replacing the glimmer of hope she’d had when she first approached him. Why was he acting like she was a complete stranger to him? Like they weren’t completely in love and making their friends gag all the time? It didn’t make sense to her. “Good one, Wildcat. I’d hope you wouldn’t forget your own girlfriend.” She joked, chuckling softly. But seeing his reaction she could sense something more was going on. She knew this was Troy. The voice, that face, the stomach turning, butterflies in her stomach feeling she had just by being with him again. She knew it was. “You really don’t know who I am?” She asked, her voice almost a whisper. She could barely get the words out before a few tears dotted her vision, looking away as she awaited his response.
Toby paused as Gigi spoke. While Wildcat seemed just as familiar and mysterious to him as she did, nothing else clicked. And when she mentioned she was her girlfriend, he tried to stop her. “I think you have my confused with someone else...” he awkwardly chuckled. While it seemed hard to imagine someone wouldn’t know the difference from a stranger and their significant other, Toby rarely liked to believe people were outright crazy. However, this girl was beginning to push those limits. When Gigi started to cry, he couldn’t help but feel some pity. “Listen, I’m not great with faces and names all the time, and you look familiar, so maybe we’ve crossed paths,” he was unsure of his own words. He partly just wanted her to stop crying. “But I do think you have me confused with someone,”

❛ ◈ A NERVOUS CHUCKLE was forced out. as much as mia loved to use the power she siphoned, she had never been so.. reckless before. between her and her twin sister, she was always the one who could control it perfectly. now that- like everything else in her real life- was gone. mia crossed her arms as she crossed the coffee shop, following after the line of people who were piling out the door. “this town’s losing its goddamn shit,” she commented, glancing behind her at toby once she was outside. as if it wasn’t completely her fault. “i’m.. definitely not in the mood for classes and meetings today.”
toby followed closely behind, though he was clearly not in as much of a rush as the people that forced themselves by him. the immediate threat was gone, so he saw little reason to be rude. once outside, he caught back up to mia. “well, you’re not wrong,” he laughed. port vista had it stranger moments, but it was an otherwise livable town. “ooh, i remember those days. just skip ‘em. you’re a law student, you can talk your way around skipping class. use the excuse of being in a fire or something.”
Gigi had spent the day in classes. Obviously being a big fan of school and work itself, it was exciting to the brunette but even she had been exhausted by the end of it. One thing she’d promised herself is she was going to see more of this new town she’d arrived in. Instead of just keeping her nose in the books like she typically would, she decided to take a break in the coffee shop right next to the school. After ordering her drink and a light lunch, she took a seat at an empty table. She hadn’t even payed attention to the guy who was currently setting up the stage for a show but once an all too familiar voice hit her ears, her head snapped up to look in the direction of the music. Troy? Her Troy? Staring, eyes wide and jaw more so dropped to the floor, she found herself lost in the music, unable to move. It wasn’t until the show was long over and people shuffled past her that she found her thoughts and stood up to talk to him. “That was really amazing.” She commented, her voice sounding foreign to her own ears as she still stared at him in shock. @betcnit
Tobias looked forward to every one of his shows, but most notably his solo shows. Playing solo allowed Toby to play what he wanted exactly how he wanted. It wasn’t so much he was pretentious about his music, but he lived for the freedom. For that reason, he often picked up whatever gigs allowed him to play ( even if it was just an open mic night ) inbetween the much better paying band and piano bar gigs. Currently, he was beginning to have a semi-regular set at a coffee shop that favored his softer stuff. After his latest performance, Toby was approached by a somehow familiar woman. “Oh, uh... Thanks,” he smiled. He was mostly used to friends and the occasional family members coming up to him after his shows. The small claps and snaps were enough, so he never asked for more. However, he could never turn down a compliment. “I’m really happy you enjoyed it,” he said he continued to pack up. Being a solo local artist usually left all the ‘groupie’ work all to himself. “Not to cocky or anything, but have you been to my shows before? You look familiar, and I’d like to believe I’d remember a face like yours.”

❛ ◈ MIA’S EYES SHIFTED once toby was no longer looking at her. “you were a theater minor ? and they didn’t teach you to be funny ? scam.” kidding, kidding. the coast was completely clear. she hesitated slightly before deciding to take manners into her own magical hands. she closed her free hand into a tight fist. “i love brooklyn nine n-” she intended to inflict a mildly painful headache onto the the couple so they would finally part- but instead the cashier counter suddenly burst into flames. she’s really out of practice. “oh my God,” amelia gasps, jumping back. once she releases her fist the flames suddenly die out but the coffee shop is still in a frenzy. at least the door’s clear now. and hopefully no one had seen her hand. “i-i think it’s definitely time to go.”
“either that or i just refused to learn. it’s easier than you think to fail comedy,” toby smirked. in reality, he enjoyed some of the more subjective classes, but he sure hated the “work”. he always was the type to just do the bare minimum and boy did he bs almost everything. while he was ready to fanboy about comedy and brooklyn nine nine, the situation escalated quite quickly. “oh shit,” he muttered as he watched the flames extinguish themselves. “what the fuck was that?” he asked as he turned back. however, out of everyone, mia seemed the most panic. “uh, sure. before that thing starts up again. as much as we all wish to be carried by a dreamy firefighter, i’d rather it not be in a blaze.”
flowcrmoons:
❛ ◈ “OH, THEY BETTER BE,” mia scoffed. “or you are a sad, sad little man and there is no way this conversation can continue without some kind of redemption.” she rolled her eyes as toby suggested that his humor was awful enough to scare away two love consumed teenagers sucking face in public. on second thought- she believed it. no question. “yeah, i’m not gonna do that. but i promise not to throw rotten tomatoes at you if you figure out a way to clear them from the doorway.”
“wanna see my college acting reel to prove it? it has like... 50 views on youtube. so i’m a big deal.” he pretended to eagerly reach for his phone before laughing. “at least, i would hope they are. otherwise that theater minor was just another waste.” toby turned back to couple by the door. maybe his humor would not be enough. but the hose idea was still too much. he just wanted to avoid the tomatoes. “if i’d had my guitar, i’d recreate that one scene from brooklyn nine nine. aka just scream and stream a few chords. wouldn’t be the first time.”
scriipturam:
“you’d have more of a chance if i had a few more drinks down me. don’t get me wrong, i love performing and i’m great at it. but even i know that there’s a time and a place.” she laughed slightly. “how cool would that be though? everyone just breaking out into a choreographed dance routine at once?” if only she knew. danica’s life, her old life had been heavily revolved around bursting into song. “oh.” it wasn’t sitting right with her, she felt like she knew him. like on a personal level, but perhaps she was going crazy. she felt like it recently. especially with memories suddenly coming back about a new family, a rich one at that. if that was true she’d be dressed head to toe in designer. “oh right, must be it.” she knew she didn’t sound convinced. “so do you do any professional music work?” she asked.
“then it’s time to start drinking,” toby laughed. “oh, very cool. though i like the music more than the dancing. i’d be that dude that they push out of the way so that the real dancers can show off their skill.” he definitely had two left feet. at least he had a leading man face to make up for it. if only he knew what he could do with a basketball and a sick beat. “define professional. do i sit on a slightly elevated platform in a bar like this so i can sing and strum a guitar or press some keys while people ignore me, then yes,” he admitted. while he hated most of his gigs, they got him to the end of the day. plus, he had a few fans, or he liked to think he did. “but, sadly, no studio work. just the freelance gig. so i do things here and there, whenever someone is needed. so, like, i’ve filled in for people’s garage bands or to provide background music for a fancy-smacny dinner party. the latter is a lot more boring than you may think. their tips are shit.”
scriipturam:
“thank you.” she smiled softly. though a brief flashback of a hidden memory ran through her. that had been happening quite a lot recently, remembering things that didn’t fit in with her life. remembering a family, a twin, a name…sharpay evans. she couldn’t quite make sense of it. “don’t tempt me. though, i tend to only sing on karaoke night. unfortunately for me. life isn’t just one big musical.” she tilted her head to the side. “this may sound crazy, but do i know you?” danica asked.
“excuse you, i’m here for tempting,” he smirked as he sipped his drink. “and life is whatever you make it, including a musical. it’s just a bit harder to get people to get to dance along to music they can’t quite hear,” toby joked. being in a musical would be quite the experience... though he did think it’d be a good one. sadly, he was limited to singing his thoughts in the basic songs he attempted to write. “i don’t know if you know me, but i’m just your simple piano man with the occasional guitar gig. i’m pretty sure i’ve worked an audition or two you’ve done before.” surely, that was the only way they knew each other.
flowcrmoons:
❛ ◈ “OH, YOU COMPLETELY CHICKENED OUT,” mia scoffed dramatically. the amusement in her face evaporated into thin air as he mentioned that he eagled out instead. she scowls at him for a couple of moments before it finds its way back- not even she was immune to a sense of humor that terrible. “god,” she groaned, shaking her head as she massaged one of her temples. “that was just- that was bad. bad, bad, bad. i don’t even know if i’m willing to let you be my accomplice anymore after that.”
toby only laughed harder at her reaction. he just loved a good reaction to a bad joke, and hers was perfect. “hey, my acting chops and speaking skills are way better than my jokes,” he promised. if only he was good at acting like he had a better sense of humor than a high schooler. “maybe i can use my terrible jokes to be your accomplish. quick, let’s redo that lead up and let me redo it next to the couple. they’ll be so disgusted they’ll have to move to get away from me.”
“of course i got the role of sophie in mamma mia live on stage. i couldn’t think of a role better suited for me to be honest.” danica was definitely in the mood to celebrate after the call from the theater, confirming her role. “drinks are on me!” it was very rare for danica to be so generous, but this was a very special occasion.
toby was sitting at the bar only a few steps away when her announcement was made. “congrats,” he smiled as he raised his bottle before taking a sip. he recognized the woman from his occasional work in the theater’s pit orchestra or when he was hired for auditions. “you might have to give everyone a little preview later, though. y’know, to get people hyped.”
