“…I cause you enough trouble though…”
The woman huffed a bit before shaking her head. "Don't say things like that." Aeris smiled a bit, tilting her head a bit. "I'm used to trouble. Besides...Life's not fun without it!"

122. “Don’t let anyone, ever, make you feel like you don’t deserve what you want.”
“…I’m sure I’m the last person that needs to tell you this.” She…simply felt the flower girl she believed was dead…was still alive. it was time to let go of that thought, as well as let go of any ambitions of having her, as well, completely from her mind.
“…Don’t…ever let anyone make you feel bad for what you want, Aeris… Not even if it’s me. Don’t let me stop you from what you want. There’s nothing I could do. I have no power over you.”

The woman rose a brow, seeing the blonde’s face somewhat flush with color before Claudia looked to the ground. It made her worry about the blue eyed woman. When she spoke, Aeris looked more confused and worried.
“Claudia…? Look…if it’s hard…you don’t have to tell me. Ok?” The woman spoke gently, slowly taking her clenched hands into hers with a small smile. She didn’t want to force the woman to tell her something that she wasn’t ready to speak about. “But….if you do, I’ll listen.”
“…N-no…I’ll talk.” She took solace in the fact that the brunette was so attentive to her feelings…locked into her emotions. She allowed her hands to be touched, looking down to find the words she wanted to say on the matter.
“…I was…once…a man… A man you might have known as…’Cloud’… That man is…gone. He’s long gone now, thanks to Sephiroth…a-and because of that…i ended up living in fear…because of what my known associates would think…” Being a coward…living in fear…that’s how she felt her life had turned out. “…I had such…particular feelings for you, Aeris…and I just…pushed you and everyone else out of my life, as if you didn’t matter to me…”
Aeris patiently waited for the woman to speak. Though the more she elaborated what was on her mind, the more her eyes widened. It was a lot for the florist to wrap her head around. The person in front of her…was Cloud? But will never be him again….That wasn’t a bad thing.
A smile spread across her lips, a small hand coming to rest against the taller woman’s cheek. “Don’t apologize…please. You’re here now, right?” That’s all that mattered. That she was here with her no matter what.
“I’m just glad you're alive.” The woman could feel tears at the corner of her eyes, her gaze pulling away from the woman and towards the ground.

“…I…I just…” It was difficult to get words out…considering it would go back to renewing her aspirations to have her again. Her hands gripped each other, as she averted her eyes tot he ground.
“…I…knew you once…but as someone else…” It sounded complicated…but tender memories caused her to hesitate.

The woman tilted her head, turning towards the other as she walked towards him. It seemed like this came out of nowhere, but maybe something happened to the blonde.
A light smile reassured the woman, before she nodded. "I'll be sure to take your advice..." She spoke softly before her brows furrowed together.
"But are you alright? Is something troubling you?"
“secret”
The woman pressed a finger to her lips in thought. Her brows strung together in thought. What could be her mysterious friend’s secret? There definitely wasn’t a lot she knew about the blonde yet, but something seemed familiar about her. The brunette couldn’t place her finger on it.
So the woman circled around the taller female, scanning her up and down to try and figure what that familiar thing was. Aerith stopped right in front of Claudia, scanning once more before locking eyes with the other. Wait…was that what she thought it was?
The florist leaned in closer to the woman’s face, staring her right in the eyes. So blue…they practically glowed.
Glowing eyes? Aerith had her answer right there. SOLDIER’s eyes glowed with mako because of the enhancements they go through…
A smile spread across the woman’s lips, as she bounced back a bit. A small laugh escaped her as she put her hands behind her back. “You wouldn’t happen to be a SOLDIER, would you?”
She noticed the other flower girl circling around her, wondering what could possibly be on her mind…? She thought deeply into her answer, regardless of her slight concern of what may be coursing through that brain of hers. “…Used to.” She answered simply before she chose to elaborate.
“…I used to…be in SOLDIER…” Anyone who took notice of her mako-infused eyes would know.
The woman paused for a moment, watching the blonde's expression change. There was concern, even more after the other replied. There was just a slight sadness to her voice that made the brunette curious. Yet Aerith dared not to ask.
"I see..." The woman folded her hands in front of her, her tone reassuring. "I didn't want to bring up something like that, I'm sorry."

"I need no king." ~Flowersonlyagil
“No king?” For a moment, the raven sat dumbfounded. The young prince had never thought about a kingdom without a king. Though he was youngest and would most likely lose the competition for the throne to the much elder and more diplomatic Sephiroth, he realized that she was making a comment about his own livelihood.
Did the woman not realize that without a king to rule, the kingdom would fall to ruin? There would be no peace, arguments about the land, political downfall, economic collapse—war.
Did she not realize what the king did for her? Did she not realize that it was the king’s existence that made it so she could live comfortably?
“You realize what saying that means, don’t you?”
He rose from his chair, standing so he could approach the woman who wanted to make her voice so well-heard that she scheduled an audience. Or maybe she was forced into an audience. She could be executed for such words—it was lucky that it was only Zack who had to listen to her. Anyone else would have had her executed on the spot.
“If you needn’t a king,” he continued, his voice hiding a cold elegance, “what do you need?”
“I like the attention,” the new king admitted, guiding his fingertips over a pair of cupid’s bow lips. He traced upwards along her warm cheekbones, the circle of bone around her eyes, her long lashes—she was so lovely. So very lovely. He bent close, kissed her softly on her pert nose, and took her hands in the dark.
“Do you dance at all?” It was a silly question but in his youth he was taught that the best way to get close to a lady was to dance with her. That was before all expectations of having a normal son was off the table, after all. Whether she knew what she was doing he was already placing one hand on her waist and guiding her into the first step.
Friends. He let out a soft breath of disappointment, but it was better than nothing. Friends worked just as fine. Having someone around that knew about his curse was nice, someone other than the closely kept guard. “I have one friend,” the raven explained, twining his fingers into her warm ones. “That blond guard. We’ve been together for as long as I remember. He came up with the veil trick.” If he stands behind a curtain, he isn’t directly looked at and can be seen as a human man. Just like when Zack was alone he cast a human shadow. That way the ceremony had gone off without a hitch and he looked like a real man.
“Though, now that we are married—and friends—what should we do to celebrate?” He couldn’t quite throw a party for her, not unless he concealed himself somehow. “What would you like as a wedding gift?” Dresses? Treasures? Gardens? Lands?
Aerith’s brow rose before her expression turned curious at the question. “Well, of course. But–” She stopped abruptly as he placed a hand on her waist and began guiding her, and all the brunette could do was follow. If she was being honest, it was nice. His hands were warm, never forcing her to go where he wanted, just simply guided. Fingers danced in between hers, and the woman let them. Gently squeezing his hand as Zack mentioned the blond guard.
The green-eyed woman had spoken to him once before, and was very surprised how quiet he was. Almost shy. Their conversation was polite, nothing of depth besides simple greetings. He seemed like a very good man, the woman could just tell. Aerith could tell that Zack was a kind man too, and it was the circumstances that painted him differently. “I’ve met him before. He’s was very quiet.” The woman added, a small smile on her face to say that he did leave a good impression on the woman.
The brunette was still a little wary of the whole marriage thing...but she did want to have a friend. So when he used the term, it made her smile. It wasn’t small, her lips spreading across her cheeks as she just shook her head. Aerith wasn’t much for presents, but... “Another dance?” She asked, turning her head upwards. Her expression hopeful before she became quite bashful, her head turning away in slight embarrassment. “T-That is...I-I mean...I-If you’d like to.”

“If you needn’t a king,” he continued, his voice hiding a cold elegance, “what do you need?”
“I’m sorry I’m just…” he huffed again. “I’m just….guh. It’s so frustrating! Weddings are s’posed to be happy and I’m…” he patted his fur down since it had been standing on end because of his anger. “I’m not really an ideal husband…” he parked his chin in his hands and looked up at her. “At one point I really wanted to be—and then puberty happened and I got a tail.” He laughed lightly, scratching the side of his face with a claw. “That was a really weird week.” Zack shook his head, long fur dancing around his face. It hurt to make light of his situation but he felt that if he made fun of it, it might have appeared a bit friendlier.
“Pretty much struck out every chance I ever had for getting a girlfriend.”
“So when I heard I’d gotten in an arranged marriage I was kinda happy. And thought I’d get a chance to actually be with somebody.” He wound his finger around his ear and shook his head. “And then reality kicked in…”
He expelled a soft breath.
“I know you’re not happy. And I know a week’s notice to marriage is terrifying. I only got a day’s more notice than you…” he stood.
“I’m going to show you something though.” He crossed the room to blow out the candle. And their room was easily enveloped in black.
“I’m not the most comfortable with being seen, obviously…” in the pitch, he struggled to find the other person in the dark. His hand brushed her side. “Oh.”
“I figure I should at least let you in on my trick since you are trying to apologize. This will…at least…make me tolerable when those nights do come.” Blindly he found her arms and traced down so his thumbs could find the center of her palms. “Here.”
“You’re not allowed to look. If you find your eyes adjusting, close them.” He put her hands against his face, making sure she could feel the warmth of her palms over his nose and eyes and mouth. “So this is the man you’ve married,” he murmured against the skin, only slightly muffled. "I’m only like this when people can’t see. It’s honestly terrible.“
The woman stopped at the door frame when the man exclaimed, her head turning towards Zack once more. Her expression became quite concerned, as he continued. She could barely bring a smile on her face when he brought up his past in such light, how he seemed to do it with ease. Something told the newly crowned queen it wasn’t how it seemed. Hearing the dark haired beast tell him about the joy he felt when he heard that he was getting married made her feel guilty. She was the one that crushed that sliver of hope that maybe this wouldn’t be so terrible. That maybe he would get a happy ending with the woman of his dreams, most likely.
Aerith wanted to believe the storybooks she read by candlelight. Her parents had left her alone in this castle, with only servants and a tutor to keep her company. Even then it wasn’t the same as having a friend...The young princess had found solace in fairy tales. True love and happy endings. Yet the stories she read about arranged marriages weren’t pleasant...and never ended well.... “I’m sorry.” She murmured, looking down at her feet for a brief moment before her attention turned back to him..
Emerald orbs flickering over him in confusion. What was he talking about? What was he going to show her? Her eyes blinked as the room went dark, she couldn’t really make out anything as something– no...someone brushed against her side. To her dismay, she let out a small squeak in surprise as she jumped a bit. Even though it couldn’t be seen, a light blush dusted the queen’s cheeks before his hands began to trail down her arm. Her skin rose, before Zack began to speak once more. It was him. Her eyes widened, realizing the reason why when they kissed...it was that of a man and not a beast.
Small hands were placed on his face, shaky as they were as finger tips brushed against his nose to trace the curves it made. They trailed downwards, tracing the shape of his lips before her hands moved to his jaw. Aerith slowly closed her eyes, as the dim moonlight seemed to spread across the room as her eyes adjusted. From what brunette could tell, Zack was a very handsome man and also....a very sad one. “I’m...I’m so sorry....” She whispered, as she shook her head. Aerith could only imagine what he suffered through, and she only made it worse. All because she had to be selfish.
“I have no right to complain...about anything. Not after you’ve most likely been through. I don’t have the right. I apologize for my selfishness...I just....” She paused for a moment, before shaking her head. Aerith wasn’t going to make up excuses. Zack didn’t deserve that. “Never mind...”The woman’s hands began to drop, as Aerith slowly inhales before taking his hands. How large they were compared to her own, as Zack’s hands were slowly lifted to her cheeks, and held there as she tugged up a smile. “It’s only fair...I can only imagine how weird it is to have someone trace your features.” The small woman gave a light laugh, to lighten up the situation.
“I know...I know that I’m not what you wanted...I won’t ever be. Maybe we won’t call each other lovers...but....could we try to call each other friends...?” Her voice was slightly hopeful, her head tilting against his hands before her hands began to drop. “I...I-I’ve never had a friend before...”

“If you needn’t a king,” he continued, his voice hiding a cold elegance, “what do you need?”
He yanked the blanket off his head and looked up to her, piercing blue eyes staring her down just above a black muzzle. “I tried to be kind. I really did. I tried to be good and understanding and for like, a day, I thought there would be a way I could woo you. But I’m in your way and I know it.”
He crossed his arms, averting his eyes from her. “But I want you to admit it to me that a quarter of the reason you cried so damn much that day you met me because you saw what I was. I look like a dog. I smell like a dog…” He shrugged. “I’m pretty much a dog. But you couldn’t find a damn reason to refuse our marriage because you know I’m a brilliant strategist.” He huffed again, a hint of a growl threatening in his throat.
“I gave you everything you wanted so why did you come here?” A clipped laugh. “You and I both know we’re not really going to do what real husbands and wives would be doing right about now.”
Wanted to get acquainted? They could have done that in the time leading up to the wedding.
But they hadn’t.
"I know, and I'm sorry." Aerith replied, shrinking under his words as she looked away. The woman had pushed him away, she could understand that he would be angry about that. If the roles were reversed, her reaction would be similar.
"That had very little to do with it. That was a part of it, but barely any...." The woman murmured, before shaking her head with a sad smile. "I was overwhelmed. I wasn't told that the marriage was happening, so when you arrived and told me, it was on the fact that I was going to be wed." Small hands folded together before she looked back at the beast in front of her.
"Today will not be the day that happens, but at some point, it has to." The female took a deep breath. At some point, a heir needed to be produced. She knew that she had lost this. What she had done could not be repaired so easily.
"You've given me everything my kingdom has needed, and I thank you for that." The woman finally decided to say after a long silence. Her voice soft as she made her way to the door. This had been a waste of time, hadn't it? No amount of apologies would fix this, would it...
"I'll leave you alone then...Just know you don't have to stay cooped up here, alright? Please feel free to explore the castle and the grounds..."

“If you needn’t a king,” he continued, his voice hiding a cold elegance, “what do you need?”
“I would really prefer you not to, thanks,” he huffed lightly, his eyes following the way the candlelight flicked up his form, casting the stretched shadow of what he supposed himself to look like against the stone wall. Hanging on the edge of the plush chair near the window, the suit so carefully tailored for him had been accidently torn out of when he caught the glance of the priest. The beast was too big for something made to his actual body. No matter. He knew Father would keep his secret. They exchanged a quiet glance before the man nodded quietly, seeming to understand the young prince’s ways.
“I’m comfortable in here by myself.” He rubbed his hands up his arms for a moment, and then yanked the red quilt from his bed. Draping himself in it, he created a hood for himself and nuzzled his face deep inside to conceal it. He unlocked the door.
“Come in,” he murmured, taking the white suit jacket and letting it fall to a heap on the floor. He sat in its spot.
The woman slowly opened the door after it had unlocked. Emerald optics searched the room before finding the other bunched up in the blanket. Her eyebrows furrowed, before a sigh escaped her.
"I'm sorry....I...My behavior has been inexcusable." Aerith started, folding her hands together as she looked down at the ground with a shake of her head. This whole marriage had been thrust upon her, with no time to prepare herself with what was to come. That was no excuse for ignoring the man.
"I...I do want to become acquainted with you. We do have to live with each other, you know. I don't think it's possible to avoid each other...We should make the best of it."
