Yep, here's the secret project I promised a month ago.
Today is April Fools' Day, or better known as Teto's birthday.
Born as an parody project created by Japanese 2channel users, she eventually gained love and traction from enthusiastic people all around the internet, ending up as famous as real vocaloids!
(Okay, I know she isn't actually a vocaloid. Please don't hang me on a stake for this.)
I am a Teto fan. I really am. I love it when people make songs or covers with her.
That's why I want to dedicate a drawing to her, even though it may not look perfect, even though I was still experimenting with everything.
I experimented with her hairstyle, I experimented with her clothes. I even experimented with her fat thighs before realizing it would be covered by a skirt.
As I make this drawing, I realized there are still some aspects I am weak on: although I now understand human anatomy better than before, I am still lacking composition skills. Someday I will be able to design more compelling poses and background. Someday....
Aside from the obligatory reflections, I also want to share some fun stuff about this drawing:
* In Teto's SynthV design, there is an extra flap on the right shoulder. I never knew about that until I looked up the character sheet drawn by her visual designer.
* I looked up the anatomy of bat wings specifically for this project. Consequently, I am peeved by how ridiculously inaccurate it was often drawn.
* I originally wanted to draw her sitting on a birthday cake, but quickly scrapped that idea since I somehow can't draw a simple cake. I still don't understand why.
* I used to gave her longer wings wrapping around the body, less like a bat and more like a demon. Unfortunately, the perspective looked weird, so I settled with the easy way out.
* I also thought about letting her take one of her drill bangs off and make a Gurenn Lagann reference. Obviously, that didn't make it to the final draft.
* Did you know that Teto's name came from "tetopettenson"?
Alright, that's all I got to say for now.
Midterm's coming, so I might stop uploading my artworks for a while. Not that I'm uploading very often anyways. College isn't easy.
I may still be shitposting though. Please give them some likes and reposts.
But I promise you: I will start drawing when I survived my exams. I will be back before May, and that's no joke, even though it's April Fools.
I would like to say that this common enemy has one of my favorite designs in OFF. It looked so goofy, so bizarre, yet so unnerving at the same time. Perhaps that's why this overclocked 9-to-5 worker left such a long-lasting impression on me.
In this drawing, I wanted to portray the exact moment an Elsen transforms, the moment they are crushed by overwhelming fear and stress, with malign energy erupting from their head, like a geyser of crude oil....
(Or these might just be the Batter's interpretation, as most would suggest.)
I am still practicing with my coloring skills, and I am quite happy with the results! The colors no longer felt blocky and protruding, and my sketchbook pages are no longer stained by excess graphene.
However, when I look at my drawing, I can't help but feel there's something amiss. Maybe I should stop trying to escape from composition and background design....
Anyway, that's all I have to say today!
My next big project will be that secret work I said I will release on April in a post somewhere. (If you didn't see that post before.... well, now you know!)
I'm not sure how much doodles I can squeeze in between now and that grand release, but please stay tuned, I will try to pluck some crumbs out from my brain in the meantime.
