Trying what, handsome?
To do the right thing.
I just don’t know what that thing is.
---------- I’m trying, I swear.
( phonecall → lydia )
“Check the bathroom, love. And just apologize to him, it’s Cooper, for christ’s sake, he practically worships the ground you walk on.”
“How do you always know that? And, maybe, but I hurt him. He’s way too good for me – for some dumb apology.”
"Because if I didn't, you would be lost. And he's not too good for you. He absolutely loves you, he would do anything for you ."
( phonecall → lydia )
“And yet we both know you’re going to let me do it. Hey, come on, Lyds, why don’t you talk to him?”
“We both know I’m a sucker for you, Mister Court. Except I can’t find my freaking p – oh, there they are. Why don’t I talk to him? I just shot him down in flames, Flynn. Flames. It couldn’t have been worse if I insulted his mother. I wouldn’t even know what to say.”
"Check the bathroom, love. And just apologize to him, it's Cooper, for christ's sake, he practically worships the ground you walk on."
( phonecall → lydia )
“I know you wouldn’t, but still. In that case, I am keeping my favor for a later time. —– Hey, why did you turn him down, anyway?”
“I’m, like, 95% sure that’s against the rules. And, to be honest, I’ve been asking myself the same thing. I’m so fucking dumb.”
"And yet we both know you're going to let me do it. Hey, come on, Lyds, why don't you talk to him?"
I mean, he wasn’t doing it to be mean, he just wanted to help me get over my fear, and he did – be it unconventional or not. But no, I don’t think I would have done it without him.
Then I’m glad he pushed you. He wouldn’t be a very good best friend if he never pushed you once and a while, right? How else would you conquer your fears?
Don't let him hear you say that ---- he does not need to push any harder than he does.
( phonecall → lydia )
“But I thought you two were in an awkward place ever since he kissed you?”
“I mean, yeah, it’s kind of weird. But he’s still my… Cooper. He’s still Cooper, and I wouldn’t compromise his well being because things are a bit awkward.”
"I know you wouldn't, but still. In that case, I am keeping my favor for a later time. ----- Hey, why did you turn him down, anyway?"

“You cannot take back favors owed, Lydia! But thank you, you’re truly the brightest star there is. I need you to come and get Cooper —- or watch him until he’s ready to go and then drive him home. He hasn’t had much to drink, only a beer or two, so he should be okay.”
“Sixth grade, Flynn! Wait, you’re seriously cashing in your favor for that? You could’ve just asked, and I would’ve done it, anyway.”
"But I thought you two were in an awkward place ever since he kissed you?"
Summer camp in second grade. He kind of pushed me into the lake because I was scared to jump in.
I don’t think you can kind of push someone into a lake. But that was cool of him. Think you could’ve gotten in if he hadn’t pushed you?

( phonecall → lydia )
“Hey Lyds, remember when I watched your hamster for the weekend in sixth grade and you said you owed me one? Well, I’m calling in that favor.”
“ Are you serious right now, Flynn? It was the sixth grade! But it must be serious if you’re cashing in such a huge favor. What can I do for you, babe?”
"You cannot take back favors owed, Lydia! But thank you, you're truly the brightest star there is. I need you to come and get Cooper ---- or watch him until he's ready to go and then drive him home. He hasn't had much to drink, only a beer or two, so he should be okay."
( he looks over to his friend with an affectionate smile. ) I think I’m the lucky one.
Of course – just give me a moment to call her.
How’d you meet him?
Yeah, take your time.

"Hey Lyds, remember when I watched your hamster for the weekend in sixth grade and you said you owed me one? Well, I'm calling in that favor."
He’s my best friend.
No – I want to take you out. I’ll just text Lydia.
He’s really lucky.
Are – you’re sure?
( he looks over to his friend with an affectionate smile. ) I think I'm the lucky one.
Of course -- just give me a moment to call her.
With the Prince Charming smile? Yeah, that’s him.
He’ll be fine. I just need to be sure he gets home safely.
I’ve seen you together. You seem close.
Then you should stay here, and keep an eye on him. I can just head up to my room and wait the party out.
He's my best friend.
No -- I want to take you out. I'll just text Lydia.
Ah, I’m really not, but Cooper didn’t want to come alone and I’ve never been able to say no to him.
Cooper… cute, sort of ditzy, douche-y looking guy, with the coiffed hair? …Sorry, I don’t really have a filter right now. It was nice of you to come with him. Are you sure you should be leaving him?
With the Prince Charming smile? Yeah, that's him.
He'll be fine. I just need to be sure he gets home safely.
( he grins and takes her hand. ) Coffee it is.
Thank you. [ more subdued, but no less drunk, she leads him out of the house. her brother felt the need to throw a dumb party tonight, and even if she isn’t opposed to it, he could’ve at least made it less… crowded. ] Why’d you show up here, anyway? Wouldn’t have pegged you for the ‘rambunctious party’ type.
Ah, I'm really not, but Cooper didn't want to come alone and I've never been able to say no to him.
Tell me how to sober you up so I can tell you before I lose my nerve.
…Take me out for coffee?
( he grins and takes her hand. ) Coffee it is.
