There was this little elderly lady in her nineties last night, who we had to put under anesthesia for a broken hip surgery. She was slightly confused going in, she was very confused coming out. And yet, her manners came back to her before her consciousness did, so she alternated between snoring like all hell broke loose and thanking me profusely whenever I tried to wake her up

As recommended by one of my patients today.
Be nice to all the young geriatricians out there, they'll be looking after your or your family some day. Dawned on me that there will be medical specialties you'll never encounter in life as a patient. And all of us will end up as patients one way or another in our lifetimes, us or our close friends/families.
But there are some specialties none of us will escape from.
Humbling in a way.
