Final Images (untouched , edited) taken by myself We went round Karley’s own house for the shoot which represent herself the most. Karley comes across very friendly, bubbly and colourful. All her clothing were very colourful and vibrant which represent her personalities (she said). And she had 12 tattoos on her body which is unusual with her culture. She has stated that her grandma disliked the tattoo (traditional mind?). I have taken the images in her bedroom which she has a lot of items and things that she loves and shows who she is. As a person, Karley was shy in front of the camera because she was worried what she looked in front of the camera and lack of bit of confidence. The clothing she owned were amazing, mostly inspired by Jamaican ( where she is from) and Matala. The images I have taken, will be edited (not too much, I prefer to keep the images quite organic and natural).

More fonts examples that I have found on Adobe typekit that we might be considering using for the title front cover of our publication. We are considering using the last one (the bottom ) for the front cover title.

Brand ethos

What is our brand ethos ? - BLOSSOM is a Youth focused publication centred around diversity, identity and culture. Since fashion magazine pushing an anti-commercialised ethos. Meaning behind Brand name: We chose BLOSSOM as the word signifies the timing period of life we are reaching for as a target market, Aligning the word to people blossoming. Essense - Honesty, Enlightenment and self-appreciation. Values - Communicating connection with the reader, sharing stories and experiences, identify your value as a person. Personality - Passionate, youthful, playful, open, positive, engaging and comp temporary Message - Informative, eye-opening, question yourself, challenge, soft approach and relatable of yourself Identity - artistic, contemporary, niche refreshing and interesting Attributes - reflecting about diversity in life , creating a connection with our consumers

Just a quick experiment on fonts and colour scheme (based on our colour palette) for our publication name. We decided that we really like the spacing for each letter but we are not satisfied of the font I have used because it looked way too simple and the letter B doesn’t look that great either. But we are happy with the name, colour palette.

Interviewing with Ellie Paterson

Today, I will be doing an interview with one of my close friend Ellie based on society anxiety and how it affected her in a way and how she used drugs to overcome her problems. The interview carried out in her own bedroom which represent herself and her identity. When I first met her, I thought she was a very shy girl and eventually got closer with her. She is just like other ordinary girl, loves make up, hanging out with friends and chill. The interview questions: When did you know social anxiety was becoming a part of your life? Were their any contributing factors that might have effected you? What are you up to at the moment? What is it and how do you deal with it? What are the personal effects on you? Tell me about how do you use the substance and why use use it? What are the personal benefits to you? Are their any negative effects? How are you coping? Has anything helped you overcome your anxiety?Having a boyfriend helps. What advice would you give from your experience to others who need guidance coping with anxiety? What did you do to overcome/deal with it? What brought you out of the state? How do you feel when its at its worst? The pictures that I have taken on my disposable camera will goes to Boots getting developed. Hopefully I will be able to collect the images soon and use the original pictures soon for other purposes.

lennon gallagher is your new teen heartthrob (From I-D magazine) We talk to the teen dream about music, memes, and modelling. Lennon Gallagher is a young British teen model. I-D has interview this new young British model about himself. Throughout the interview, the interview was done in a causal way and used slang languages which will be similar to what we are aiming for our interview for our publication. Example: What are you up to at the moment? I'm in college, currently doing my A-Levels. It's long, but yeah. I'm trying to make modelling and college work at the same time.

If you could go back in time, who's be up there? Oooh I'd probably have The Velvet Underground, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Stone Roses, and Nirvana. Nirvana is a really big one for me, I love Nirvana. I want the interview to keep it casual and relax because that’s the aesthetic we are aiming for and the publication is aiming for youth generation. Title/name, logo and dimensions ideas

We have came up with the name of the magazine which is “Blossom”. The idea came from when I was thinking a word about “growing” and which has its beauty meaningful ideas within it. I thought of Blossom after I saw the flower on my desk. Definition of blossom” Bloom of youth. Noun: the best time of youth. Type of: time of life a period of time during which a person is normally in a particular life state. The state of flowering: A flourishing, healthy condition; the time of greatest beauty, vigor, or freshness: the bloom of youth. Symbolises growing up, developing and maturing Publication dimensions: Slightly smaller than A3 Paper stocks, shiny papers, matt papers, tracing papers and others. Concepts definition

After few weeks of researches and reading books, we have came up with our final concepts - Body Image - Identity and diversity. The reason we have chosen this concepts is because we wanted to explore and celebrities the beauty of each ethnic groups and cultures. Culture - A pattern of Living, customs, traditions, values, attitudes. A “race consciousness” - guide individual identification. Refers to superficial differences between macro and micro group (clothing, music, speech, etc). Identity - The reflective self conception or self image that we each drive from our family, gender, cultural, ethnic and individual socialisation process” There are two types levels of identity - Personal ( what makes us unique) - Cultural, communal or social (such as nationality, ethnicity, gender, religious or political affiliation After researching the definition, we will use cultural (different ethnic background) and personal (identity) to lead us for our next step which will be developing an idea for the shoots.

Ethical fashion / environment and supporting animal rights. Self Image: Not overly confident with appearance but would looking to impress and finds confident. Buy Motive: Trendy, personal, high street brand Attitudes & Opinions: Rebel, displeased with society and want to speak out their opinions and problems. Benefits looked for in a product: trendy, stylish, appearance, something to represent themselves/statement garment Brand loyalty: favourite shops (sport bonds, vintage shops, urban outfitters, H&M etc. and boots sales possibly. Demographic segmentation: open minded, easy going, body Image and appearance

This is the current consumer profile I have been working on for our products. it’s possible that we might be changing slightly in the future.

Overall answers that are really good and relevant Q2. Personally, how do you view your body ? Half people (50%) voted not satisfied - Not skinny enough, not toned enough, legs aren't long enough, fingers are a weird shape, lips are wonky... I could go on and on haha Q3. How many times a day do you think about your image ? More than half (55%) people voted always (Multiple times a day ) - I just want to portray myself how I want to be perceived, and most of the time its hard to do so with money and doubts Q4. Are you confident in your own image? What would you change and why? - I'm comfortable with all of my body. Societal standards say that some of my body parts are flawed, but I love those "flaws" for their authenticity and originality. Q5. Has social media influenced you to want to change something about yourself ? Do you compare yourself to people present in images on social media? More than half people (55 %) people said yes - I appreciate other people's beauty while also appreciating my own - one person's beauty doesn't mean someone who looks different is ugly. Q7. Would you say you over-analyse how you look and why ? 55% people voted yes - I care too much about the way I look and my body shape and always want to look perfect - I appreciate how I look at different times in all their nuances - different facial expressions, different poses, the different features that are brought out by different types of lighting Q9. What do you personally class as beauty ? - I don't personally believe in a general definition of 'beauty'. It's what ever the person using the adjective of 'beauty' or 'beautiful' finds attractive. One person's 'beauty' will be someone else's 'ugly'. It's a personal choice. Making models and the like difficult to define as beauty, as it's completely different person to person - Beauty is something from inside. Beauty can make oneself and people around you feel comfortable and happy. - Loads of different types of people/ styles can be classed as beautiful but in my opinion a natural beauty is the best, this is frustrating because its something that you either have or dont. I dont like people who try too hard eg. massive fake boobs or lips and orange. freckles are also really pretty Overall, the results are really useful for our researches, both gender have participated this survey and both gender have answered that they are not happy the way they look. And more than half of them are not happy about their face and looks.

After the meeting with Iain and Vicky, they have given us more define concepts. We have defined some areas of matters within body Image that is interesting to explore more into: -Body shamming - criticising about a person’s body.. weights and sizes being too fat or too skinny. It’s difficult to impress everyone now days as you if you are fat , you will get call being fat or overweight whereas if you are skinny, you will get called being too skinny (which is an insult getting called skinny). -Identity - we want to use ‘identity’ as a way to communicate through fashion/articles/interviews and pictures. We want to interview some people about themselves, do a shoot with them. Plastic Surgery - Plenty of girls now days are following their favourite celebrities ‘ unnatural looks on social media (Kim Kadashain , Kylie Jenner and etc), having boob jobs, lip jobs and etc because that’s what they think it makes them beautiful. The images we see aren't what we see in real life... most of them are edited and airbrushed.. Mass Media / Image idea - as said above, most images you see on social media (especially Instagram) are not real, most of them have back staged prepared, make up and clothing.. What do you think they get their followers from? Eating disorders - This is a serious subject matter due to models starving themselves to death. Luckily, the matter has been taken extra notices and introducing larger women and some countries even banned underweights models walking on the catwalk because it’s a bad influences for the girls.

Something to do with eating disorder...

More models have died within few years because of starvation and eating disorders which lead to heart failure. As we all know, the fashion industry ‘s preference for very thin models (USA size 4 , size 0 UK). However, the thing is that fashion has tried to improve and solve the problems by introducing larger bodies and larger models coming into fashion and being used in catwalk shows and advertising and these bodies are sometimes called ‘real bodies’ and real ‘real women’. Women naturally should have curves and fats to show their femininity.

This article is based on how people have seemed to be over obsessed with editing their selfies images and posting the images on social media, but however behind every selfie are hundreds of retouches, editing and discarded snaps. Instagram used to be a social media platform for lifestyle images, natural and a communication social media platform but ends up on Instagram to be over edited and airbrushed into something that doesn’t even look like real life. In Scarlett Carlos Clarke ‘s series photographer focuses on photography we see in social media were not what you think might look like in real life, heavily edited and airbrushed images are ver popular especially among in young women. Scarlett “Although some girls maybe feel totally insecure and vulnerable and full of self-loathing, there's a narcissistic element that they can't stop feeding with the selfie,” In phycological term, some girls may feel insure about themselves and by doing editing images using a 99p app to make their skin smoother and good lighting would boost their confident by having countless likes. “It’s like a short-term release of endorphins, and then it’s over, and then probably back to the self-loathing” – Scarlett Carlos Clarke

Five ads that took body-shaming to a whole new level Article from Dazed magazine

1st picture (Katy Perry ) - There are two issues within the advertisement, first is that The brand’s “president of pop culture” Ashton Kutcher pissed off a load of Indian-Americans because of the racism in the advertisement film. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW5aLNpiV-s And also Katy Perry, had touch up on the images and unrealistic because she doesn't look exact the same in real life. 2nd picture (We call it as we see it) The second image was an advertisement encourages men to cheat in their marriage but the example of the image came with a shock. ““We call it as we see it” screams the text, which hovers above two women – one thin, one fat – laid out in lingerie. Naturally, the bigger model has a big red ‘X’ next to her – because who in their right mind would willingly have sex with a fat woman, right?” “Did your wife SCARE you last night?” It’s alright guys – if you somehow got lumbered with a wife that dared to gain weight throughout your marriage it’s completely cool and morally acceptable to pay to find a sexy new replacement. Ashley Madison says it so it must be true, right?” I don’t understand how’s that possible to shame a women’s body just because she wasn’t skinny as the other women and also encouraging men to cheat on their wives. 3rd picture (no regret) - AN OVERWEIGHT AFFAIR THAT LED TO REGRET The image was an e-cig company ad which shows a half naked men next to a woman. presumably his drunken conquest - The ad is obviously about the man got really drunk the night before and pulled a woman whom was extra few pounds and regretting it. The woman was also wearing PVC which implies that fat women are fetishised by straight men and are therefore only palatable as a caricature of sexuality as opposed to a legitimate long-term partner. 4th picture (Save the Whales) Surprisingly, the ad was created it from a charity that sexualised women by wrapping their naked bodies in giant plants and there was the above advert – which apparently aims to ‘save the whales’ and help us all ‘lose the blubber’. It maybe true that turning to Vegetarian might loose some weights but theres still other way to communicate the point right ? Last picture (Are you beach body ready?) Now days, it seems to be very easy to make people having lower self esteem, with all the images on social media and internet and an image obsessed society. The ads appeared in London underground station billboard. Why Would you wanna feel worst when even in the underground? Father pf two daughters (unknown name) said he’s not very impressed with the billboard ad because what if his daughters could be influenced by these so called “‘aspirational’ adverts”.

Me and Chloe went to town centre to take pictures of street style, getting an insight and speaking to the people about the way they dress and appearance.

Most of them were surprised that we wanted a photography of them because they generally didn't believe that. After spoken to few of them, they loved to dress to express themselves who they are, (identity) and to impress as well. (not because of wanting attention but just to feel better).
