strange love
fnchanyeol:
“You’re a fucking curse, Tae,” he mumbled around the filter pinched between his lips. “I wish I’d never met you.” Somehow the words were both the biggest lie and the most honest truth Chanyeol had ever told.
Apollo was light, Apollo was music. Apollo was the wonder found between brush strokes that layered into paintings, of poetry that twisted words in art. Apollo was healing, and the truth that hid between prophecies. But the truth wasn't always pretty, and it was oft forgotten that Apollo brought with him the plague, too. Taemin, as a reincarnation stripped down of his glory and power, made this obvious enough. He divined knowledge and used the truth as weapons, makeshift arrows that he loved to drive into Chanyeol's skin again and again. Enough to make him hurt, to make him ache for him. But never into a place that would break him down completely. At least not yet.
Apollo had already killed Achilles once. Taemin could do it again.
He'd long since mapped out what places he could poke and prod to get Chanyeol to lash out at him. Had long since memorized what sorts of barbs would send him off into a rage, and what actions would stir up the jealousy that seemed ever simmering inside of him until he boiled over. It was funny, really, that Taemin had gotten so attached to him in the first place. He liked hanging around the dancers, the poets. People who would write the sorts of songs for him that made his fingers vibrate. But he'd pieced it together eventually. Chanyeol was an artist in his own regard; a brutal one. Painted his knuckles bloody, imprints of bruises left behind like swathes of charcoal and Taemin had long since learned to appreciate the beauty of fingerprints pressed deep into his hips, his arms. Long since marveled at the ragged red lines he'd scratch down Chanyeol's back.
His head fell to the side with a rough shove, though it wasn't unexpected. "What do you mean just let you walk away? Like me existing is a problem? If you can't manage to look at me without having a meltdown maybe you should get the fuck out of the building. But you won't. If you do that you won't get to keep track of everyone I'm sleeping with, will you?" Taemin shot back, if only because he had a problem with letting things lie. Especially when they were the types of truths he didn't like. "So I have a thousand someones, and I always will. So how is that not me walking away, Chanyeol?" It was a cheap question, though this was largely due to the difficulty in refuting it. Taemin, in reality, wasn't letting Chanyeol walk away. Not easily anyway. But it was deceitful, and quiet. Tied Chanyeol up in a noose he was hanging by, too distracted by the prospect of what was occurring that he didn't bother to look up and see who had strung him there in the first place. For all the world, Taemin had moved on, into the arms of a thousand someones.
He just didn't care for any of them.
Taemin watched as Chanyeol lit up another cigarette. A third that he'd seen in so many minutes, a testament to what he assumed was the anxiety that was twisting up inside of him. Or maybe just rage. It was sometimes hard to tell with him. When Chanyeol finally spoke around the smoke, Taemin laughed. He shouldn't have, but it all just seemed strangely humorous. He couldn't blame him, Taemin wouldn't want to fall in love with himself either. Didn't really care much for what he had to offer; but he had a pretty face and a knack for inviting himself into people's lives uninvited and so he warped that into pretending there might have been something worthwhile buried down deep in him.
The fucked up thing, the really fucked up thing, was the whole monologue made him happy. He was a plague, a disease, something that had forced its way into Chanyeol, into his psyche and refused to leave. Something that consumed and weakened and wouldn’t to die out. Love was hardly pretty when it came to Taemin's iteration, but it also meant that Chanyeol was so wrapped up in him, warped by him that it was near-impossible to rid himself completely. Taemin, a boy perpetually terrified of being left with nothing, could do nothing but appreciate that.
There was a sharp noise as plastic cracked against brick, a stretch of near-silence save for Chanyeol's heavy breathing. "I know. Everybody wishes that." Taemin answered him back, eyes bright and a smile curling its way across his lips. It was true enough though. When Taemin left, it wasn't only him. Left in his wake was destruction, a happiness that was ridden out too fast, too hard until it all sparked up manic (and sometimes depressive). Taemin was only pretty at first, until you let him in and discovered he was a monster. The sort that spoke so charming, kissed so sweet that you all but begged them to consume you. Piece by piece until he had his fill of it, of them, until he convinced himself he craved something new. Slipped away to leave past conquests alone, attempting to rearrange what was left into something presentable again.
With Chanyeol, he apparently refused to give him that chance. Snapped at weak heels until he tripped, fell hard for him once again. A cyclical occurrence he hadn't yet tired from; wasn't entirely sure he ever would.
strange love
Chanyeol’s chest was heaving, and his heart was pounding by the time he finished. All he could see was red and Taemin. His knuckles ached as he unclenched the fist of his free hand to wrap it around the railing boxing Taemin in as if he could have gotten away. “Is this what you want Tae?” He asked through gritted teeth finally easing up on his grip on his jaw but still not letting go completely. “You know I could never say no to you, baby.” The hatred behind the words did nothing to hide the sincerity they both knew was behind them. He was right, there were no rules, and at the end of the day, it would always be Taemin’s game, not Chanyeol’s.
The key to Taemin's game was moderate observation and the ability to parse out what bothered people. Sometimes he figured it out through his powers, the information passed through a touch, or secrets locked between a pattern of cards. Sometimes he figured it out by watching and waiting, baiting and seeing what would take for them to bite. He had a way with biding his time, with saving things, up, piecing together what made people weak, what would make them malleable in his hands. Saved them all for when he decided he needed it. Not that Chanyeol had too many secrets, he had never been that kind of person, but Taemin had more than enough time to memorize the theoretical manual in the art of pissing Park Chanyeol off.
He knew he'd already accomplished it, knew it in the way Chanyeol stared and called out after him when Taemin brushed passed him in the hall. Knew in the way Chanyeol leered angry when Taemin stumbled home drunk on someone else's arm, his eyes passing through Chanyeol like he might have been an apparition of his past that he never wanted to revisit. It had tripped him up, Taemin saw it in the ache that seemed to radiate off of him in waves. Heard it when Chanyeol slammed his door a little too loud. Witnessed it now in the way Chanyeol was starting to crack, desperate for attention and desperate not to let it show. He wanted Chanyeol to buck the last of his self restraints and submerge himself in rage, that or acknowledge that some of the hits had landed, that he was weak, that he was wanting. But then, that was something of a rarity.
"Seems like you're a better person to ask about that than me." he returned back rhetorical. They both knew that Taemin was a mess, he'd dated Chanyeol for long enough that it had already become apparent. The fact that Chanyeol was calling him out on it bothered him, but not in a way that made him angry. It was a dull sort of feeling that sunk like lead in his chest, like affirmation of what he already knew and what he didn't want to hear. It twisted up in him, an impulse to drag Chanyeol back because he could never let him get the last word. Could never let him feel like he'd won.
It worked. Of course it did, it always had.
The way to pull Chanyeol back to him had always been through insults instead of pleas, words laced with venom and a litany of everything wrong about him over 'come back.' A testament to the dysfunctional nature of their relationship. Taemin didn't have time to dart off before Chanyeol was pinning him back against metal and concrete, fingers rough at his jaw and pulling his eyes up to force their gaze to meet. Taemin had the gall to laugh, Chanyeol's fingers digging deeper in the process. "I'm always asking for it, baby." it came out sarcastic, cruel even, but he thought the situation was all just a little funny. Chanyeol knew him well enough, knew he wouldn't care, knew he craved it. Used it like some brutal solution, an attempt to knock the pieces of himself back together. Or maybe he was just looking for someone who was finally capable of destroying him completely. Taemin was never really sure.
The words he was threatening to spit out were sealed off when Chanyeol pressed his fingers tighter, his jaw locking and eyes narrowing. He'd no doubt have bruises in the morning, and there would be implications for how they got there to anyone that glanced his way. Chanyeol was probably doing it on purpose, the fucking tool. He kept questioning him though and it had Taemin lifting a hand to yank hard at Chanyeol's thumb, bent it back to give him enough room to talk, even if he hadn't pulled free completely. "I don't keep you around. You do that yourself, wandering around my door and fucking whining like a stray, hoping I take you in. Don't spin this on me. Don't spin this like I still fucking want you Chanyeol, because you know I don't." he hissed out.
It was a lie at the heart of it all. There was a part of him that did still want Chanyeol, but there was also a part of him that wanted to run before Chanyeol got to close. Before he lit him up in flames and they both imploded in something blinding and brutal. Achilles had always just been a man, and what match did man stand against the sun? "If they're all lining up for me I think that means they like me well enough. Besides, I don't even need them to like me. Just fuck me." Taemin dragged the last three words out slow, pointed, even as Chanyeol rambled on and on and into waters that were far too deep for him to tread, the kind that made Taemin want to drag him under until he was struggling, gasping, and then entirely breathless. Talking about who he was, what he hated had never been an allowable topic. Not without setting Taemin off in a terrible mood, a terrifying mood.
"You know, it always surprises me." he started off, the tone conversational, seemingly at odds with the way Chanyeol was panting with anger. "Just how fucking desperate you are. I mean, I know it shouldn't at this point, but..." he trailed off with a lift of his shoulder, though he took another step back to fit himself back against the railing when Chanyeol boxed him in. "Why would I want this, want you when I already said I have someone?" he reminded him, a snort following soon after at his follow up, had him tumbling into more goading. "I know you can't. What a good boy." he hummed out, the corner of his lips quirking up in something like amusement. Though he was entirely sure Chanyeol wouldn't find it nearly as hilarious as he did. But then, Taemin always seemed to have more fun in winding the strings of Chanyeol's conscience around his fingers in order to make him dance, until he was all tangled up in himself. It was harder to run that way.

i want it all
He groaned when they parted, and Taemin spoke again. Jongin was dizzy with want for him, swallowed hard and nodded his head quick - maybe too quick and maybe too eager, his eyes bright and hungry and his hair falling into his face withthe quick jerk of movement, lips parting around a shuddery breath as the other’s hand slipped low and lower, stilling just inches too high and prompted a husky whine. "Of course.“ he groaned as lips burned over his neck, hips tilting toward towards the barely there pressure of his fingers, felt the heat of his mouth on his skin and sighed an unsteady exhale, all thoughts of the apartment behind them forgotten.
Jongin's eyes were bright despite the bruises pressed underneath them, a betrayal to Jongin's sleepless nights with too many thoughts to plague his sleep. Taemin hoped that they'd been about him. He could feel his laugh, the short bursts of air and Jongin's chest vibrating underneath his palms as he pushed him back. An unceremonious thump when Jongin's shoulders fell back against the wood of his door. "There are better ways to do that, now I feel insulted. I'm gonna take a forty minute one, and you're not allowed inside with me." Taemin teased him at the mention of showers, leaned in close and tucked his head in against the other’s neck to whisper "I'm gonna use up all your hot water." he murmured into his ear, voice heavy and catching at his breath like it was supposed to be a come on, pulled back with a mischievous grin as he caught Jongin's gaze.
He continued to wind his way down his list of wants though, ended up on Jongin himself, the boys heart beating fast beneath his hand and Taemin wanted to claim it for his own. "I'm not sure I do." he answered him back, Taemin's voice quiet, though the tension between them both was palpable. Jongin bridged the gap between them and Taemin found himself leaning into the kiss, something wanting and wicked. His fingers catching the material of Jongin's shirt as he let it drag down his torso, two of them hooking into the stiff band of his jeans, tugged until he shook a whine free from the other.
"You promise me all these nice things, but you're still not letting me inside." Taemin pointed out with a laugh, the words muffled against Jongin's throat as he kissed at his pulse. It was one of Taemin's new favorite things, winding Jongin up in pleasure and intensity. His favorite was when Jongin got so worked up that he forgot about everything else except for the pounding of his pulse and the slide of skin on skin, when he managed to drag out guttural groans that echoed just a little too loudly off of the walls. "Or what, am I supposed to blow you out here or something? Is this your way of telling me you're an exhibitionist Jongin?" it slipped out teasing, and it had Taemin tugging at the hold he had on his jeans once again. "I guess I can. If you want me to, you need to ask me real nice though." he decided, brow perking up and he wasn't sure if Jongin would flush red at the prospect and remember to twist the knob and let them back inside, or if it really had been his intention. He didn't care too much either way though, Taemin wasn't the one that lived there and it was late enough that the hallway was empty anyway.

fnjongin:
He had neighbors - neighbors he knew, too - and he probably shouldn’t have been doing this, but he wasn’t all that concerned, want overtaking common sense as he slid his hands up beneath the other’s shirt, stroking over his sides and letting his nails drag down his sides, biting into his hips as he yanked him closer, shoulders pressing back to the door as he leveraged his own his forward to grind against the other. “Think real hard about what you might want, and I’ll give it to you. Anything you ask.”
"I guess you don't. Not yet." Taemin mused out with a grin, reached a hand up to press his palm to Jongin's mouth before he had a chance to retort back at him, a teasing look in his eyes as he left it pressed in place to keep whatever words he had curling on the tip of his tongue to stay there. Taemin leaned in, kissed playful at his own knuckles before he tugged himself back, hand falling away as he pushed into Jongin's building to climb his way up the narrow staircase.
Jongin blocked his path before he'd even had a foot in the door, their bodies colliding together instead, not that Taemin seemed to mind. Taemin found himself sighing against Jongin's lips as the other pulled him in closer, their hips pressed together tight as he shoved Jongin back until his shoulders were slotted against his door. He shivered underneath the bite of Jongin's nails, leaned in a little closer so that their foreheads were pressed together, noses brushing and their breath humid between them. "Anything...? Well, for starters, I want your fucking drugs." he laughed out, caught Jongin's lower lip between his teeth to tug, though it let it slide free easily enough.
"And a shower, since apparently I need one." Taemin found himself reminding him, considering that was the whole reason they'd come back, and he was going to be relentlessly bringing it up until he forgot about it just because he could. He let his hips roll forward in a slow circle, pinned Jongin back against the door, one hand sliding from the curve of Jongin's shoulder to let it settle against his chest, above the stutter of his heartbeat. "You, too. All of you." he decided, Taemin's gaze heavy and something impish in his smile as he leveled it at the other.
He meant it though – he wanted him body and soul, wanted to pluck Jongin's heart from his chest, wanted it to beat only for him. Wanted Jongin so wound up and dizzy with him that he forgot about the rest of the world, until Jongin felt like his veins were laced with him. Perhaps unrealistic, and most definitely selfish, but Taemin was merciless and Jongin was easy to give, bend for him. "Do I get everything I want?" he hummed out, hand trailing down even lower, two fingers hooking into the band of Jongin's jeans, his head tipping forward to trail a few kisses along the column of Jongin's neck.
fnchanyeol:
“I’m in the mood to break something,” he shrugged, mumbling around his nearly forgotten cigarette he had placed between his lips as he brushed the loose dirt off his dark jeans. Chanyeol was many things, but a liar wasn’t one of them. “So that is exactly what I’m going to go do,” he announced making his way toward Taemin wishing he had the heart to ram into him with his shoulder as he passed. He wasn’t the type to walk away from the fight, but they had done this enough times to know this fight would never really be over.
"I guess you were my exception." the words came out of Taemin's mouth blandly, like he couldn't remember now how Chanyeol ever could have mattered to him that much. He had though, they both knew that. Maybe parts of him still did, a fear that shook his heart and scared him off in the first place paired with a distraction that sparked up a new flame in his chest. Taemin was an erratic person, and to be perfectly honest, sometimes he didn't understand the things that went on in his head either. Maybe it was Apollo's soul inside of him, or maybe it was the pieces that Taemin was trying to pull apart from – but even if he hated it, hated himself, it still all coalesced inside of him. He was Taemin, and he was Apollo, and he was a mess when you bothered to glance past the blinding veil Taemin tried to pull over himself like a distraction. Maybe he just didn't want anyone to figure that out, maybe that was why he always left first.
"Was it? I bet you'd take me back now if I suggested it." he returned, because cruel or not Taemin knew that Chanyeol would drag himself through hell for him, or he would have before. Seemed like he would now with the way his anger fanned up into flames and his eyes hung off of him heavy. Taemin liked that, liked the shiver that ran up his spine, like his body was warning him to stop. But he was a master of nonchalance, of getting what he wanted and so he remained still, seemingly unaffected. He was selfish, too selfish really. Taemin wanted to hurt, wanted live on like a ghost in people's thoughts – wanted to carve out a place for himself in their chests and then leave it vacant and hollow.
But he didn't want anyone to do it back to him, that had never been allowed.
He hated vulnerability, he always had. He hated the feeling of weakness and the power that others could exert over him if he let them. Hated the pain, and he hated the loneliness. He hated himself if he were being honest, past all the bravado an indifference, past the declarations that he knew well enough that everyone loved him. It was always there, hidden in the back of his head. The paranoia that they didn't. Maybe it was why he always demanded so much from everyone, from the world.
There was a giddiness flooding his system when Chanyeol boiled over and words overflowed unbidden. There was always a spectacular feeling when he managed to win against Chanyeol, twist power out of someone that seemed intricately intertwined with it. All fists, the steel cut of his jaw and grind of his teeth, how he could stand his ground tall and domineering. It was his favorite sort of person to bring to their knees, and he wanted Chanyeol kneeling at his feet for as long as he'd let him, before Chanyeol realized he could stand on his own again. "You already know that there are never any rules." Taemin answered him back, a laugh catching the back of his throat as he said it. The situation wasn't funny, but Chanyeol had took the bait and now Taemin knew that he was getting underneath his skin. He wanted to drive him mad, though Taemin hadn't yet figured out if he wanted it to be with anger or desire. Maybe just both.
"When aren't you in the mood to break something?" it came out in a snort, and he rolled his eyes as Chanyeol took a few angry steps past him. "You wanna break me? Hit me if you want." Taemin called out at his back. He didn't think he would, but he was also pretty sure he wouldn't care if Chanyeol did and so there was nothing blocking the words, stopping them from falling between them both. Taemin had an interesting relationship with pain. Not that he lived like Chanyeol, chasing down people to fight – not that he even wanted for Chanyeol to haul off and slug him in the face. But he liked bruising hands and teeth sinking in too hard against his throat. Liked nails and threats and bruising palms. An intimate sort of violence, like the ocean's raging waters during a storm, pulled you under and had you gasping for air. “Or are you just gonna run away? Never took you for a bitch, Chanyeol.”
i want it all
fnjongin:
“You want to hear more poems? More compliments? I’ve got a few sonnets up my sleeve.” he teased idly, slid his hands up the other’s sides, sneaking beneath his shirt to skim over his skin, tilted his head to mouth over his neck softly, groaning softly, a wry grin on his lips as he lilted out a quiet line in the boy’s ear, nipping at the shell, “Being your slave, what should I do but tend upon the hours and times of your desire?” he chuckled, groaning against the curve of the boy’s neck with a slowly spreading smile, nipping at his collarbones. “Thats what you want, right? Want me to give you everything you want?"
"I like to hear compliments – worthwhile compliments, not fucking stupid ones." Taemin retorted back with a grin, his tone half-teasing as Jongin laughed, his fingers pulling briefly through Jongin's thick mess of hair before he was spinning away from his teasing with excuses on his lips. He didn't protest though when Jongin slipped an arm around him on the bus, his shoulder bumping at his chest every time they hit a pothole, but Taemin was more focused on the scene outside as they rode. He let out a sigh when he felt the brush of Jongin's lips once again, though he really only managed to pull Taemin's attention back when he started to speak.
"I'll get pissed if you're lying, though." he answered him back, eyes flicking to Jongin's face as he said it. Lots of people lied, lots of people held secrets that cut to the bone. Sometimes Taemin picked up on things he wasn't supposed to know, and sometimes they were about him. Not that Jongin had, not yet anyway, or not that he'd found out. Jongin's secrets were lonely, desperate and colored over in shades of depression and alcoholism. He liked him though, there were skeletons in everyone's closet after all. It wasn't like what he had hidden was any better.
"Mmm, maybe. Depends if I still feel like it then." he sighed out, tipped his head forward to hide his grin against Jongin's shoulder, though he jabbed a finger between two of his ribs at the name he tossed out at him. He pulled away from Jongin to walk his way steady up the stairs, hand dragging against the cement of the walls as he walked – figured the elevator must be out again. "You're fucking ridiculous." Taemin snorted out when Jongin swiveled to block the entrance to his apartment. Taemin really wasn't one for cute, and while he loved poems and desperate words he hated saccharine sweet and sappy. Nothing made him run faster. Jongin sometimes pushed, and Taemin sometimes pulled back. Sometimes he gave in, too. Sometimes it just sent him spiraling into cruel and petty for little to no reason.
For the moment though, his good mood stayed, perhaps because Jongin reached out for him first and spilled out offerings he knew Taemin wanted. He laughed against Jongin's ear, hands sliding up to grip at his shoulders – used his hold to push Jongin back against his door. "It is." Taemin agreed, leaned in to nip, tug at Jongin's lower lip. "The trouble is, I don't know what I want half the time." he admitted, "but I still want you to give it to me." Taemin punctuated the sentence by rolling his hips forward to pin Jongin back against the door. It wasn't like Taemin lived in the building, he didn't really care if anyone saw him. It wasn't like he had a reputation to uphold, it wasn't like he was a particularly morally upstanding individual. Truth be told, it was rather easy to get Taemin in bed. The harder part was capturing his attention for longer than the night.
"reaching out for human faith is like a journey I just don't have a map for..."
Casual Affair
luhanfn:
As Taemin poured two mugs worth, Luhan took the chance to dig his lighter out of his pocket and light up the cigarette still dangling from his lips. He inhaled once before the toes prodding at his thigh drew his attention back to the male sitting on the counter. He simply offered a deadpan expression in return to the demand, breathing out smoke in the direction of Taemin’s face as a petulant sort of revenge. “Anything else, your highness?” he drawled, pinching Taemin’s thigh a little too hard as he reached around him to grab in the bag for the carton of milk and stuffing it into the shelf on the refrigerator door. “Need me to breathe for you and chew your food too?”
"Don't you know? I have nearly nonexistent standards." Taemin informed him with an easy shrug. That wasn't entirely true, though it was pretty easy to get into his pants. Especially if he wasn't sober. There was a clatter of metal as he sorted through the contents of his drawer, paused briefly with contemplation in his eyes when he found a knife, though he eventually moved on in search of something better. "That's true. You're really lucky about my standards thing." Taemin reminded him as he continued his search. Not that Luhan was hard to look at – he was cute, though Taemin had him pegged for some stoner-skater combo when they'd first met, not a surgeon. Or surgeon to-be. Whatever.
He finally managed to unearth his corkscrew, traded it out to Luhan before he looked around in his cabinet for a couple of clean mugs, took the chipped one for himself in a moment of rare hospitality. He ended up on the counter, his heel hitting the hollow wood and his finger flicking at the vinyl, peeling it up to expose glue residue underneath. It was a shitty apartment, but Taemin had a shitty job, so it wasn't like he expected any better.
"Why would I do that when everyone already does whatever I tell them to?" he wondered aloud, an amused sort of grin settling into place as he sloshed wine into both of their cups, fingers curling around the handle of his own mug to take a sip, and then another when Luhan turned away from him to put the milk away. "Yeah, c'mere." he answered back to Luhan's question, though he jerked when he pinched at his thigh, shot him a nearly-playful glare in response. "That's fucking disgusting." he laughed out at Luhan's suggestions, opted instead to reach out and pluck the cigarette from between Luhan's lips, propped it between his own instead to take a slow drag.
"Long day?" Taemin questioned out through an exhale, stole another drag before he handed it back off to the other, drank down a mouthful of wine instead, his toes curling in an attempt to fix the itch at the sole of his foot. He dropped an elbow to Luhan's shoulder when he'd shuffled in close enough between his thighs, head tipping forward to catch Luhan in a kiss, pulled his lower lip between his teeth and bit down. "You can vent, if you want." he mumbled out against his mouth, pulled back just to take another drink – the contents disappearing a little too fast, but Taemin was drinking to get tipsy, not to savor the taste.
i want it all
fnjongin:
“I’ll find one that does.” he added in quiet promise, murmured against the boy’s ear before he pressed a kiss just below it. “And we’ll take it, all the way to the very, very end, until we can see the stars again.” he promised, leaned back a little to gauge the other’s expression. “But for now we’re kind of at my stop. You want to go up, or should I start googling that bus route?”
"Don't call me cute." Taemin protested in a murmur, his voice thin from forced laughter. He stayed in Jongin's grip though, and it felt like the weight of his hands on his hips was keeping him grounded in that moment. Jongin tasted like cigarettes and the stale coffee he'd been drinking all night, but his lips were soft and it had something pleasant curling in the pit of his stomach when Jongin kissed him harder, until they were breaking apart by centimeters to pant unsteady, grinned when Jongin's laugh tripped out bright. He always looked so genuinely happy when he laughed, his eyes scrunching up and his voice always loud. It was sweet, and Taemin liked how intensely Jongin seemed to feel things in the moment, like he wanted to capture everything and store it up inside his chest.
Taemin hummed at Jongin's response, the corners of his mouth curling up when Jongin nibbled and tugged at his lip, shivered and let his arms link loose around his neck when he trailed down to his neck. "Would you? But how do you know you won't get sick of me by the time it's forever?" he wondered out loud, amusement laced through his words as he slipped a hand up to drag it through the boy's shaggy hair. "I guess I do want to hear it, is that bad?" he asked as he backed away to spin off toward the bus stop when he spotted the line that ran to Jongin's place nearing. He ended up near the window, he almost always did. He liked to watch the city race by in a blur as they drove, liked to watch the people that dotted the sidewalks whenever the bus grinded to a slow halt.
"Why do you need to take the fun out of my life?" Taemin asked him, even if Jongin had just been pointing out a fact. "I like the East end of the island, it has the nicest beach." Taemin shared when Jongin promised he'd find him a bus, and it wasn't like it was all that great of a spot, or even much to look at but there was a tiny stretch of gritty sand and a cluster of rocks that he liked to sit on to watch the waves roll in whenever he made it over there. He thought Jongin might like it too.
"We'll go, we'll go." Taemin sighed out, hand pressing to the back of the seat to twist himself upright, followed after him and back out onto the street, turned in the now-familiar direction of Jongin's building, his hands half-tucked into the pockets of his jeans. "You got anything fun?" he asked him as they walked, head tilting to glance at Jongin sidelong – the implication of drugs easy enough to pick up on. Taemin spent a decent portion of his time high as a kite, but Jongin already knew that.
Don’t let people treat you like a cigarette, they only use you when theyre bored and step on you when theyre done. Be like drugs, let them die for you.
i want it all
fnjongin:
He caught the other at the bus stop, swept him up in his grip and spun him in a circle, the pair of them stumbling, laughing when he alighted to the ground, scrambled into the bus when it rolled up like a pair of foolish teenagers. "You’re not gross. Never gross.” he promised, laughing against the other’s cheek when he crowded in close beside him, wound an arm around his shoulders and tugged him closer. "Its just an excuse to get you naked.“ he drawled playful, as if they didn’t both know that was where things were going regardless, the tip of his finger stroking idly down the line of the other’s neck.
A grin spread across his lips at the term Jongin settled on, didn't bother denying it as he ghosted off. He supposed he was. There had always been a cruelty that lived inside of him, made a home of his heart to combat the loneliness that perpetually threatened to move in, to leave him lost and longing. So he fought against it, twisted people up, tangled them in knots until they were tied up against him, caught in a trap where he whispered out terrible things, awful things while his grip stayed soft. Taemin had always preferred mental games, he always thought them to be worse. You healed over time after you got hit, it might hurt like hell in the moment – but skin would reseal and bones would mend. Emotional scars always stayed though, the mind tumbling back to them in moments of boredom or vulnerability, and Taemin wanted to be that ache in someone's chest, wanted to live on in regret, wanted to become nostalgia and longing.
Taemin wanted too much, a perpetual problem he could never find a cure to.
They stumbled into the night, darkness still blanketing the city despite the fight that the flickering neon signs and streetlamps put up, but he knew it would dwindle soon into the early morning sun and the odd haze that the dawn seemed to bring soon enough. Jongin had him laughing as he tucked him up into his chest and tickled at his sides, pressed nails to the nape of the other's neck and the quick gasp of "stop it, stop it" spoken through his smile. "I would though, you're right." he conceded when Jongin's fingers had stilled, hands sliding to settle heavy on his hips instead.
"I don't know, it just build and builds, until you'll be all I think about." the words were teasing, and there was a spark of amusement in Taemin's eyes – but Taemin was also a romantic. Was swept up in the current of everything new – lust, want, love and he was happy to be carried away. At least until he got caught in the undertow of it all, started to pick out pieces that he hated, annoyances that grated on him. It was an unpredictable thing, and Taemin had never managed to figure love out – not in his lifetime as a god or as a man.
Jongin's laughter was bright, vibrant as Taemin turned away from him and gravity seemed to give out underneath him as the other caught him up to spin him dizzyingly, a brief kaleidoscope view of the city around them and laughter shaking free from his chest. His feet found the ground once more in slightly unsteady steps at the screech of breaks from the bus, a wheezing exhale of exhaust as they both clamored on. "You don't need an excuse to do that." Taemin reminded him, not that Jongin didn't know it already – though he shudder ran through him at the feather light sensation of fingers over sensitive skin. Taemin glanced out the window and watched the blur of buildings run past at the bus jerked to a start, his focus dancing from Jongin’s touch to idle thoughts spinning in his head. "Have you ever ridden it the whole way – to the ends of the city?" Taemin wondered aloud after a brief bout of silence, though his eyes stayed fixed to the window.
fnchanyeol:
“It’s nice to know you still think of me when you’re with them.” He immediately shot back. As far as Chanyeol was concerned, that was a victory in itself. The fact that he served as a point of comparison only meant that he was still somewhere underneath Taemin’s skin too. “Sorry to disappoint —Although, apparently, it is what I do best— I’m not particularly in the mood to hear it.” He hoped the finality in his tone would tell Taemin that their little game was over, but he doubted he was that lucky. The game never seemed to be over for Taemin.
There was a tangled mess of relationships in Taemin's life, almost too many to put a number on. Some were fleeting, a vibrant stretch of days riding the high of dopamine and rolling on MDMA. Some were longer, pieced together. A puzzle that he labored over only to scatter everything up again immediately after. With Chanyeol though, it felt like he had maybe been missing a piece to begin with – like he couldn't complete him, and thus couldn't get rid of him either. It didn't bother him as much as it should have, maybe because Chanyeol was so very obvious in his desire, rage and it gave Taemin a new game to play. He always needed new toys.
"I don't know, I guess I felt bad. You're an awfully pathetic person – it seemed especially cruel to leave at the time." Taemin answered him back just as easily. He wasn't a fighter, not in the physical sense, he never had been. He was slender, lithe and didn't bother trying to change this. Taemin could run, and he could talk – could drive arrows made of words into the hearts of many, built up out of insecurities and secrets he had stored up in his head. It was his weapon of choice and while Chanyeol had experience quieting others with his fists, Taemin just goaded and baited and laughed until he grew bored or someone lashed out enough to make him stop. Laughed like he was now with Chanyeol snarling out angry at him, his spine uncurling like a shock of anger had startled him and Taemin loved that – loved that he could do that to someone.
"But I did love you, I loved you so much. Now you're just angry that I don't anymore, that I might love someone else." his voice came out teasing, amusement hidden between his words and a smile still lingering on his face. Chanyeol's statement rang true in a sense – Taemin was a terribly selfish person, and he had a tendency to put himself first. But he had loved him, had loved him violent and consuming – had loved countless others the same way. Chanyeol's reaction had Taemin pulling farther down the path he was paving though, moved into lilting out words of someone new, someone that might have mattered more than Chanyeol now, after a month of radio silence and his eyes sliding over him like he didn't exist.
A vein showed near the other’s neck, like he was clenching his teeth, holding himself back from lashing out and Taemin all but ate it up. "Stop it with your wishful thinking, it's annoying. There's no room to think of you when you're not in front of me. But clearly I think of them when I'm with you." he pointed out, his cigarette nearly burned down but he still managed another pull from it. "At least you know yourself." it came out like a joke that Chanyeol was in on, but they both knew that Taemin was just trying to push salt into his wounds, pleased enough to find that they hadn't yet healed – his presence like the plague that Apollo used to bring. He wanted to infect, wanted Chanyeol to succumb to him – a surrender from a boy who refused to lose.
Taemin couldn't imagine a better prize.
He dropped the end of his cigarette, stubbed it out with the heel of his scuffed up sneaker and kicked it toward the gutter, the last wisps of smoke escaping his lips in an exhale. "What are you in the mood for then – apparently something." Taemin found himself musing out, tucked his hands into the pockets of his sweatshirt as he stared down at where Chanyeol sat – he sort of liked the reversal, Chanyeol always seemed to have the edge over him when he stretched up to his full height, and Taemin never liked feeling small.
luhanfn:
“Certainly cuter than you right now,” He jeered as he stepped up behind him, arms curling around his waist and chin hooking over his shoulder. He nipped at the sharp cut of his jaw before letting go in favor of reaching into the bag to snag the pack of cigarettes at the bottom before Taemin had the chance to steal those from him. He pulled the bottle of wine out and set it on the counter, nudging Taemin’s side. “Where do you keep the glasses?”
"If it's your resignation then that means you're not allowed to come over," Taemin decided on a whim, not that he was being all that serious. He knew some of the tiny ways he could push at Luhan, was constantly testing limits with the people around him – finding out what they would do for him, how long they'd stay while he twisted and pulled until they either got sick of it or broke down for him. He always preferred the latter. Taemin was on the cusp of huffing out an indignant response when Luhan called him difficult (granted, he was, but he hadn't been planning on letting that sit on the principle of it), though there was the sudden silence that meant Luhan had cut off his call and so with a snort Taemin tossed his phone onto his coffee table, a heavy clatter of a noise following that Taemin seemed entirely unconcerned about. He’d no doubt regret it later when he needed his phone but forgot where it had landed.
There was the intention to maybe make himself look a little more appealing, but as the minutes crawled by Taemin remained motionless in the middle of his room, eyes lidded and as he stared at a lopsided star chart he'd strung up against his wall once upon a time after finding it in secondhand shop. He was shaken from his daydream when Luhan's knuckles started to wrap against the wood of his front door, a grumble in his tone before he raised his voice a little louder to offer out a threat. He stole the bag from Luhan's grip, closed the door on him once again in punishment for hanging up on him, left Luhan to let himself in as he wandered his way into the tiny kitchen area, slid the bag onto the counter and started going through drawers in an attempt to find something to open the bottle with.
"I hate cute." he called back, a knife in one hand and he was in the middle of contemplating if he'd be able to finagle his way into opening the wine with it without causing injury to himself. Probably not. "Still hate cute. Plus you look like you're on a bender." Of course, he was used to Luhan looking a little over-tired and out of it when he'd just gotten off a shift, the whole medical career branch seemed to be entirely too much effort. He let out a soft noise of triumph when he opened yet another drawer and managed to find the corkscrew inside, the weight of Luhan's arms winding around his hips and he let his head fall to the side as he felt the blunt nip of his teeth, pulled a hum of approval his chest.
“I’m out, gotta use mugs.” Taemin decided after pulling a cabinet open to check. Though considering he owned all of three glasses, it wasn’t all that surprising. He traded Luhan the corkscrew to get him to open the bottle as he reached out to grab a couple of the mismatched mugs, slid them onto the counter and followed along himself after, hefted himself up to sit as he waited for Luhan, one nail flicking absentmindedly against the peeling vinyl near the edge of it. "Put the milk in the fridge." the words came out demanding, borderline bratty and he jabbed his toes against Luhan's thigh as he said it. Still, there was a small smile twitching into place and he reached out to grab the bottle, poured them both.
fnchanyeol:
“I just wonder what you’ll do when I don’t care anymore,” he thought aloud. A part of him doubted the day would ever come, but he hoped. “No one else will ever fight for you; they’ll never care that much. You’d be so bored without me.” He was one of many play things, but Chanyeol liked to think he was still his favorite.
Chanyeol's presence was still dotted throughout Taemin's life despite his best efforts to wash him away completely. Taemin always liked to pretend that he ditched people and ran, that nothing of them would remain, but it wasn't always true. Some had a bigger impact than others – and Taemin genuinely loved everyone that he was with. There were different shades of love, different types. But Chanyeol lingered in his life like a ghost he couldn't chase away – a hole against the thin wall in his apartment from a day when Chanyeol had been spectacularly drunk, remembered the taste of wine and the press of Chanyeol's lips before the other had stumbled off and Taemin started yelling at him for trashing his apartment. There was the shelf above his fridge that now remained unused because only Chanyeol had been tall enough to reach it – he was pretty sure there was a forgotten box of cereal tucked inside, but some sort of stubbornness kept him grounded and so he left it there out of spite, even if Chanyeol had absolutely no idea.
He was haunted by his presence in small ways, and it was hard to shake the chains when Chanyeol kept rattling at them despite Taemin's best effort to ignore him, drop contact, move on. It would probably be easier if they didn't live in the same fucking apartment.
"How romantic, I love it when you threaten to kill me. Quick, describe how and maybe I'll go on a date." the words came out sarcastic, and Taemin rolled his eyes as he glanced out toward the street to take another drag. It would be a lie though if Taemin was to say he hadn't liked how forceful Chanyeol could be, bruising hands and violence – everything had been so intense, had made the love that followed feel that much greater in the moment. It wasn't quite the same now though, and Taemin wouldn't be able to give a concrete reason as to why, even with a gun pressed to his temple. Maybe destruction was just woven through him, pulled apart his own life along with everyone else who was unfortunate enough to cross his path. Pretty from a distance, but nothing much past it. Sometimes it felt that way.
"You're always so dramatic." he answered him back entirely unfazed, even as Chanyeol's cigarette crumbled underneath his grip. Taemin wasn't scared of Chanyeol though, he never had been – had heard more than one threat of violence against whoever it was that caught Chanyeol's chagrin at the time while they'd been dating that it hardly registered as a threat at this point, whether Chanyeol meant it or not. "You're right, I would. Just what I want, blood all over my floor. You always know what's going on in my head Chanyeol. That's why I was so fucking happy when we were together. Oh. Wait." the words came out cold, like he was pointedly trying to get a rise out of him (the funny thing was, there was a sick part of Taemin that reveled at the idea of someone doing that for him, but he wasn't about to admit it. Perhaps Chanyeol did know him well enough after all).
"Of course you mattered, everyone I love matters. Until they don't anymore." his voice came out slow, like Chanyeol might have been thick, inhaled once again from his dwindling cigarette and attempted to let the nicotine soothe at the anger that was threatening to ignite. "You say that like I care what you think about me," the words were spoken through the smoke, like that might mask the fact that Taemin did care, at least in some way. He wanted Chanyeol to want him. Wanted to watch him break. Taemin’s eyes flickered back to Chanyeol when he spoke his thoughts out loud, his gaze steely and it nearly set Taemin off, but then he continued to talk himself right into a hole, the sorts that were baited with Taemin's traps and secrets. It had a smile spilling slow across his face. "But I already found someone new to fight for me, someone new who cares about me. Should I tell you about them, want me to tell you all the ways they outstrip you?" the words were malicious, and he meant them to be, something calculating in his expression as he watched Chanyeol's face for a reaction.
