Lots of thoughts about the recent release of information regarding alternative routes in Arcane.
First off, with the possible parallels between Mel and Silco.
At first, I am enticed by this. I am granting the writers the benefit of the doubt that they intended to make Mel a hero regardless of this plot point, given what they said following up (explicitly describing Mel as a good person who tries their best to do the best thing.) So I’m assuming, from this perspective, that they were likely planning to have Mel try to engage with Silco in order to negotiate some sort of peace deal that would benefit both Piltover and Zaun only for it to eventually go wrong as they’re both confronted by misaligned ideas of what the future can and should be. I’m assuming the comparison in terms of insidious action is not intended. I have always been the biggest advocate of Mel interacting with Zaun on a personal level BUT I do not think this is the best way for her to do so.
Personally, I would have loved to see her interact with Ekko and the firelights as she would have admired and aligned herself with this cause specifically, and understood a bit more of the nuance behind the situation, therefore: clearly defining her intent, providing character development, and breaking her away from the Piltover and Noxus conflict which would have prevented the glorification and victimization of Piltover season two. I also believe this choice would have further villainized both Silco and Mel, who are complex and complicated characters who are deeply affected by their upbringing and their ingrained understanding of violence and its societal importance/impacts.
While they do have a lot in common eventually breaking apart their “allyship” would have placed Silco in an objectively “evil” position and demonized his attempts at liberation (not calling him a good person I am merely approaching his character from a class conscious perspective and understanding the intent and source of his actions). It would have also demonized Mel, as people who already struggle to understand her objective goodness would feel justified in their hatred of her. It really would not have helped misogynoir in the fandom. But it does hurt knowing they considered having Mel interact with Zaun and completely disregarded it, especially seeing the outcome of season two where she is entirely isolated.
But I do love the confirmation that she is goodhearted and a hero (average Mel lover W.)
Then, with the possibility of Vi as the protege of Silco’s.
I think this would have been extremely interesting initially. While we see Vi regret her actions nearly immediately after hitting Powder, this is mostly spurred by the sight of her sister in danger. But if Silco intercepted before that and attempted to manipulate her at a moment where her anger and emotions are high, then I do believe he would be successful. My only doubts come in when I consider the rest of the show.
Vi is very individually motivated. We see her engage rather heavily with politics, more so than Powder does. But she is stopped in her tracks when Vander tells her that she’d likely just endanger those around her. She cares about Zaun but she cares about Powder more. Powder is the same way, but to an extreme where her priority is not only the person, but the person’s opinion of her.
Operating under the widely accepted headcanon (please forgive me if it’s actually canon I haven’t seen any confirmation, however) that Powder has BPD, and Vi is her favorite person — we can assume that a lot of Powder’s motivation comes not from a desire to be the strongest, but to be worthy within Vi’s eyes (as Powder’s perception of Vi is that strength is most important to her because she has difficulty believing herself to be more important due to her self esteem issues.) While it is possible to argue that as she grows into Jinx her list of important things and people becomes shuffled and she is more politically motivated, Vi remains her priority. Whenever she genuinely believes that Vi wants to leave with her we see her drop her adopted identity and her previous desires and embrace her sister — until something interrupts that reinforces her doubt.
That being said, I do not think Powder would go after Vi in the same way Vi went after Jinx. I am not arguing that Powder loves Vi any less but I believe that incident — and the reinforcement of Vi’s negative feelings towards her through Vi’s decision to join Silco and leave their old life behind — would prevent Powder from ever engaging with her sister again, at least if she could help it.
Rejection from a favorite person would cause a split in Powder, that would be amplified by the time passed and the lack of motional fulfillment because of the resolved conflict. Powder would be afraid of finding her sister again because of another rejection. I believe there are two routes where she could possibly find her sister again. One in which she joins the firelights and confronts her in that manner (whether through a fight or through Ekko’s efforts.) And one in which Vi goes after her because of a personal realization. It would be interesting, however, to see Vi mitigate her anger. I think this is less of an issue in Arcane as we know it because she is always too busy and too responsible to be angry, but given the space and time I believe she would be.
It’s been a little but I am still interested in finding some longterm jayvik rp partners! Though I am changing the conditions slightly, as there are certain things I am no longer interested in doing/or that have been fulfilled.
Requirements:
1. Must be 18+, preferably above 20. Will not rp with minors, or about minors. Any aus will be purely with adult characters.
2. No mistreatment of Mel’s character or misogynoir accepted. No “other woman” subplots, no antiblack tropes, or resentment towards her character.
3. I am only interested in long literary style! I am in school currently so replies may be spotty but I am driven by passion, and will do my best to respond in a reasonable time.
4. I only play Viktor, I just do not consider myself well versed enough to play Jayce.
5. Must be interested in world building!
Updated list of au’s/concepts I’m interested in:
Anything superhero
Anything omegaverse (will discuss dynamics/roles if asked)
Pirates
High fantasy
T4T (not an au but I always write trans Vik and I love trans Jayce as well)
Supernatural (not the show, but like vampires and werewolves and that sort of thing)
I’m very interested in high action au’s in general so if you have any ideas that don’t necessarily fit the prompts above but are similar in pacing, feel free to dm me!
In a mutually toxic yuri Melvik kinda mood. I need a nasty mutual breakup built on years of insecurities and unresolved tensions but neither of them ever gets over the other so they’re resigned to pining from afar. Mel constantly is pulling the strings to help push Viktor’s projects into the limelight as a way to help them. Viktor swears to never speak Mel’s name again but snaps the second someone bad mouths her around them.
Within the realm of characters getting annoyed by Heimerdinger’s pacifism and complete lack of action, I absolutely believe that Mel was soooooo tired of him. Her being the first aside from Jayce to raise her hand… she was exhausted from years of dealing with Mr. “I can see both sides” splitting any votes that would yield actual progression. She was DONE.
Her and Viktor bonding during his academy days by realizing they have a mutual disdain for him. Both “He’s not THAT bad, but-“ing their way into a budding friendship (and future lesbian situationship.)
Thinking about an AU where Mel’s arcanic abilities interact negatively with the presence of hextech in Sevika’s body. We’ve seen Mel’s magic directly counteract what was within Viktor (traces of the hexcore) and cast him from her shield. And that was far before her powers were realized. We’ve also seen that Sevika still has lingering traces of it within her body after Caitlyn’s hextech negatively reacted to her and cast scars on her face. Imagine a world in which Mel has embraced her powers, and is too inexperienced to disarm them properly. Imagine a world in which Sevika and Mel have pined and yearned for months from afar, and finally decide to make a move, to attempt to be together. Only to realize that it hurts. That Mel touching Sevika causes Sevika’s body to ache, and her scars to sting. Imagine Mel working tirelessly for months to be able to touch her, to be able to control her powers, but being too terrified to even try. Once again, feeling like an outsider, and hating the gift she’d been born with for constantly isolating her.
so fucking jealous of ppl in nyc rn I’m abt to fly there and change my address so I can vote for Zohran. I don’t like glorifying politicians but I’ve seen nothing but him putting his money where his mouth is.
My college professor in a film history class said that, only recently, horror has become a genre that represents humanity/human problems (because of the rise of A24, specifically.) I have become a problem ever since. Every project is about horror, every answer I’ve offered is related to a horror movie. I am personally going to change his mind.
Post canon jayvik to me… I don’t think Jayce would ever be able to leave his dream of magic and science behind. Even if he isn’t working with the hexcore, he’d be unable to stop inventing. But I think Viktor’s guilt would be too great to ever return to work. That’s the main difference between them for me. I think it would also create a rift in their relationship. Viktor would be terrified of Jayce going down the same path, but Jayce would feel purposeless without his passion.
I think magic and science matters more to Jayce and helping people matters more to Viktor. In Viktor’s case the academy was likely his only avenue, and the main reason he pursued engineering/science was to aide Zaun. For Jayce, helping people matters but it’s not his main goal. He would pursue magic even if it benefitted no one but himself, as he does when those around him disapprove. But Viktor would quit if hextech did not help him save the people in Zaun.
this is so gratifying holy shit. I literally could not deal with the discourse surrounding his actions after his hexcoreification. I knew it all along though my goat would never voluntarily do those things. The man who accidentally killed his friend and then immediately proceeded to decide the hexcore needed destroying knowing it would kill him? That’s the guy I’m expected to believe willingly ‘killed’ thousands of people?
Once again so silly to me that there are people out there wholeheartedly believing that they are better for being league only and not interacting with arcane. I know our fandom has tons of problems but it’s league of legends. Let’s have a little self awareness please. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
meljayvik fans…. drawing idea. meljayvik going to a pumpkin patch and doing that tiktok trend where you pick out one that resembles you and posing with it covering your head. Mel with a little cute mini white pumpkin. Viktor with a really long pumpkin and a curly stem. Jayce has a big orange one that Viktor and Mel are visibly struggling to hold up over the camera.
