I AM THE VOID WHERE IT ALL BEGINS & ENDS. ┊ priv. & sel. YU NARUKAMI / PROTAGONIST of PERSONA 4. est. july 2017. as portrayed by jaewon.
maybe we can ‘meat’ up at the beef bowl place :)
❝ THAT WAS BAD, SENPAI. ❞ despite the jab and the atrocious pun, quite fitting of the elder, the beginnings of a smile begins to bloom. despite the onset of his usual expression, ever composed, perhaps anxious, akihiko’s jest is warm and honeyed. yu’s mood, soured with their constant strife — the fate of the world resting upon their shoulders — sweetens with a tinge of pink. at times, akihiko seemed buried underneath the turmoil, the stress, the pain ; and yet, his smile blinded even the sun. underneath the glare, yu allows several loose chuckles to escape his lips, now a widened grin.
IN A MOMENT OF BOLDNESS, yu reaches forward and interlocks their fingers, palms softly touching as he gives a gentle squeeze. there is familiarity within akihiko’s grasp — calloused and all — which safeguards him from the autumn chill. where words threatened to fail him, yu opts to forego them entirely. their steps mirror each other, dress shoes tapping a crescendo against the pavement. ❝ let’s head out now. i still owe you for last week. ❞

❝ to be quite honest with you, narukami, i’ve felt no need to leave master igor’s side. ❞ he begins with honesty, no half - truths nor absence of candor. as he speaks in the velvet room with sincerity and directness, he would do the same here. even as he stands awkwardly among the dark streets, hands anywhere but his pockets, nervously changing their position. especially when an object is thrown his way, eyes fixed no more on the persona accommodator’s curious actions but more so focused on what he was gifted.
he reads the label, ingredients, nutrition label. but does not mimic the actions of the other. instead, he inspects it. ❝ why do you deem that strange? ❞
AN ETERNITY OF NOTHING BUT BLUE. it seemed a nightmare, if there nothing else. truly, at times yu wondered of the sins which link carried, to sully his fate in stagnation ; the limousine, with its blinding velvet and fogged windows, awoke a claustrophobic feeling within his gut. never mind the constant presence of someone as ominous as link’s master. ❝ i’ve never stayed in one place too long. it’s just ... hard to imagine a life like that. ❞
❝ YOU DON’T HAVE ANY CURIOSITY ? ❞ he asks, a calm, if not somewhat shocked, tone present. even here in inaba, where the trees barely compared to the concrete forests of tokyo, a mystery lied behind every corner, not accounting for the fog. for a moment, yu swishes the drink within the can before sipping once more. ❝ what do you think about humanity ? i get the feeling he isn’t one of us. ❞
❝ YOU’VE NEVER EXPLORED ? ❞ his steel gaze quivers at the sign just barely protruding into the scene. the sole convenience store open later than dinnertime welcomes the pair with the warmth of flickering neon lights. with link’s attire, starkly blue and ever the oddity, yu makes it a point to continue walking. ❝ outside of the velvet room. ❞ he clarifies, edging towards a vending machine instead. he slips enough money for two matcha teas, the chilled cans barreling through the machine.
❝ I GET IT — YOU’RE A GUARDIAN ANGEL ... ❞ yu immediately trails off, bending down to secure a can into each hand. he rises, tossing one can towards link. he then opens his own with a snap, sipping at it before continuing. ❝ but that still seems strange. ❞

in persona 3, u shoot urself with a gun-like evoker.... activiating ur persona,,,, in persona 5, u rip off the mask signifying the removal of one’s perceived personality and revealing their true self,,,
in persona 4, u hug ur bad feelings away and get a new glasses prescription
honestly, it’s so inspiring to watch yu’s growth into a leader, despite his anxieties and clear stiffness in social interaction. like, his friends listen to him, despite the fact that he may stutter a bit or is a bit eccentric as a person. (the anime really plays on the ‘eccentric, stoic, oblivious’ trope which i kinda like, but also i’m developing in my own way.) the thing is, yu is such a sympathetic person, and he can try to see a situation through so many lenses because of this. he’s also quick-thinking, dedicated, and willing to stand up for what he believes in.
by the end of his time in inaba, he’s clearly someone that everyone can rely on and he’s willing to do anything to protect the people he loves. his character growth, although it happens behind the scenes since he’s not as upfront as other members of the group, is still so encompassing and great.
p4 is over toni, let it die in peace just like atlus did

❝ TH - THAT’S A BIT SUDDEN, SENPAI. ❞ with the mere suggestion, rose petals dust across his cheeks. a great warmth begins in his core, traveling up to his face and remaining there indefinitely. despite their closeness, he had never expected such a blunt request, even from one as straight - forward as akihiko. still, given their hand - holding, their telling embraces, the spilled secrets, and the softness in their stolen looks, the request truly came to little surprise.
A LATENT ANXIETY REARED ITS HEAD : yu’s own experience with romance was limited, nay, absolutely zero. never had he thought of dating in the past. culture, and his own dignity, demanded something more than just what the movies spoke of — love at first sight, a summer romance, these things were unattainable, falsities created in a world which hungered for affection. reflecting that, he wondered at times if he too was infected by this societal plague.
STILL, HE FELT NO REASON TO DENY. if there was ever a moment to break the barrier of ignorance, to try it for once, he could not think of any other he would share it with. yu reaches forward, gently grasping upon his friend’s own calloused hands with his own. his eyes close for a moment before he dips in, leaning in to gingerly place his lips upon akihiko’s. he remains there a moment, squeezing their joined hands softly for a moment, before retracting.
HIS FACE STILL AWASH WITH RED, yu gives a pleased simper, eyes crinkling in pure joy, bashfulness. ❝ i hope that wasn’t too bad. ❞ that was my first, he thinks to himself but allows the thought to remain buried.
♪ Your knowledge has increased!
my new year’s resolution is to try and finish more drawings, starting with pic related. persona 4 is still my fav in the series :’)
