I actually think Fitz was a pretty good father to Hap (given the circumstances). He's emotionally honest and empathetic with Hap, genuinely listens to him and respects his independence even when Fitz disagrees with his decisions. He laments depriving Hap of necessary life skills despite having given him a wealth of practical knowledge, some of which is quite uncommon (Hap can read, write, mix inks, cultivate herbs and produce, create poultices, etc.)
Fitz constantly reciminates himself for being a bad father and never notices that the child he spent the most time with AS a father was the one he almost single-handedly raised into being an emotionally stable and self-actualized adult who loves himself, loves his career and loves being a part of Fitz' family.
8 words, 9 book titles. (This is why I can never remember which book I’m on in the final trilogy)
the despised wit: talking to puppydogs
the noble skill: well “consent” won’t save house farseer will it
Fitz
quick dress study with amber
civil bresinga is an incredible character because he is a deeply traumatized teenager going through an awful period of his life but we are almost exclusively shown the parts of that which are Really Funny.
I love how normal the fool is about fitz despite being extremely in romo and homo with him. insane levels of chill being able to exist in the same room without spontaneously combusting or having a giant meltdown. anyway remember when amber carved paragon to look like the love of her life and got completely fucking irate that his eyes came out blue
Burrich be like Hey Fitz I am your father figure. I fucked your mum now I'm going to fuck and marry your girlfriend too.
@tragediegh this too, is truth. Be free from thy tags.
Fitz you have an amazing way of getting into every problem you can find

Rate my favorite Hobb inconsistencies
Malta forgetting that Kyle was her dad & naming her kid Efron "after her father"
Two Hests
Bee's maid switching names
Robin not keeping track of how many kids Molly and Burrich had
The Fool's tower room window situation changing entirely depending on the series
The Man Ceremony that was mentioned once and never again
Her forgetting that Fitz had already known about Paragon for 25 years pre AF
Her implying Althea and Malta were sisters and forgetting Keffria???
The Chyurdian religions that are mentioned literally only in AA
Kennitson and Boy-o being written like teenagers and not 40 yr old men
Keeping Wintrow in a 40 year situationship staisis
The Salt/Realder's Dragon fiasco
Just realized I missed two of my favorites ever which is Kettricken going from green-eyed to blue-eyed and the skill fingers switching hands like thrice in one scene 😭
Was talking about Realm of the Elderlings with my friend who’s only read Liveship. She expressed confusion because everyone says RotE is relentlessly soul crushing and Liveship didn’t seem like that. Personally, I think RoteE has plenty of sad things in it, but they are surrounded by the warm, good, and interesting aspects of humanity. Yes, Fitz has a pretty rough life, but parts are funny and sweet and exciting.
I wonder if people get scared away hearing it’s a sad story. Other readers, do you find it overwhelmingly sad? I think it’s a mix of emotions and experiences just like real life.
rote social media posts 5/???
Then comes a crowned blue buck. He wakes stone. If he wakes stone, then a wolf emerges. A gold man holds the wolf on a chain that goes to his heart. If the gold man brings the wolf, then the woman who reigns in the ice falls.
hobb slipping in that fitz is a sub in the middle of Everything That Is Happening right now is one of her funniest moves
To me one of the central points of internal conflict in Fitz's life is that being connected with others always comes with expectations. He is right that the expectations that were placed on him as a child were unfair and abusive, but this results in him wanting complete freedom from all expectations. He struggles with the fact that any relationship comes with expectations, and struggles to differentiate those from the expectations of the Crown. Which makes sense! Almost all his foundational relationships growing up were founded on him being Chivalry's son, and the expectations of the Crown couldn't be separated from those relationships.
