So, we sublet rooms in our house. One of them paid his rent but inexplicably did not include the money he is supposed to pay for utilities. We texted him to ask him why he didnāt send the utilities.Ā
This guy has been very strange since early on. My husband is very patient, though, and hasnāt said anything to him about his behavior until now. But one thing that crosses the line for him is messing with the money. So when there was no answer that day or that night, the next morning he texted him giving him 30 days notice because he didnāt pay his utilities.Ā
Then six hours later, comes a barrage of texts saying how he paid his rent and also the next monthās rent [I donāt know what heās talking about because only this coming monthās rent was in his payment and he noted it as such in the payment], and that he didnāt have the money in his account but heāll pay it very soon [okay, weāll see], and that it was really inconsiderate of us to say what we said because he was at a funeral yesterday [wait, what? 1. When did you tell us you were at a funeral? Or were we supposed to tail you and find out what you were doing? Or maybe read your mind? 2. You were so stricken with grief that you couldnāt get your fingers to type out a few words in response to our first text? 3. So itās not inconsiderate that you didnāt answer our first text?]
Of course, this is only one side of the story, but anyone looking at those texts can see for themselves the dates and times and the content of them.
1. When my husband asked him if he could talk to him because he wanted to ask him if it was okay to go in his room to fix the wiring for the front door (below his room), he slammed the door in his face and then we heard a lot of things being thrown and a lot of pounding on the walls
2. When he passes us in the hallways, and one of us says Hi, he responds with silence and stares straight ahead.
3. When he comes back from work and goes to sleep, which is sometime in the early hours of the morning--he refuses to tell us what hour that is--he doesnāt like it when people go up and down the stairs which are basically under his room. At one point, our other housemate had gone up and down the stairs louder than he liked, so in response, the next night when he got home in the early hours of the morning, he deliberately stomped really loudly on the stairs, knowing it would wake up everyone in the house, and then went in his room, where he pounded the walls really loudly for a while.Ā
4. When he broke the knob off the dryer, he apologized to us for that when he met us on the street as he was going out and we were coming back to the house. But then at 12:30 am the next morning, he texted us in his own defense. This is not inconsiderate? to send a text after midnight when he can see everyone but him is asleep?
Okay, I understand there could be a lot worse behavior, but let me tell you, this doesnāt make me at all comfortable for the future.
