“It’ll all be okay soon.” Rose promised her son, her concern growing more and more by the moment. “She was confused. Clearly she’s getting false information from somewhere.” she sighed, reaching down to fix her daughter’s hair as she thought. “Maybe….”

“We’ll figure it out,” he said, trying to regain his confidence. This whole situation was total mess and then some, and he absolutely hated it, he couldn’t stand having such a lack of control over his situation. “You don’t think she would have ratted us out, do you?”

“You know your sister. Once she gets something into her head it’s there to stay for a time.” she replied confidently, offering her son a small smile. She listened as he explained what his sister had said, and she looked down to her unconscious daughter as she took it in. “Of course she’s wrong. The merge is nothing like murder. Why would I ever lie?”  

“I guess so,” he said softly. “I know you wouldn’t.. but she seemed so sure, mom.” He sat next to Austen on the couch and fidgeted nervously with his zipper. “Do you think maybe she talk to one of the others? And they lied to her?”

With a skip, Zeke started off toward them – following close behind.

Luckily his apartment was only a quick walk away from where they were, and so in no time they were there. "Please take your shoes off when you come inside,” he said as he let them in.

“I’m sure she’s fine dear. We’re strong.” was all Rose could offer, helping her son set his sister down onto the couch. She examined Austen as he spoke, her mind going a thousand miles an hour as she processed the information she was provided with. “She was probably tired and confused. We’ll figure it out though, get it all squared away.”

Aj nodded his head in response to her reassurance, though he didn’t take his eyes off his unconscious sister. “She seemed pretty certain about it though,” he muttered weakly. “I don’t understand it.. she said that it was murder, and that one of us would just be dead. I told her she was wrong but.. she stood her ground. She is wrong, right?”

‘Yours is fine.’

‘Okay.’ He jerked his head to the side before turning in that direction, indicating for them to follow him.

Too absorbed into the situation, Rose didn’t notice the way her son shifted. She was more focused on getting her daughter into the house without her becoming more damaged than she already way. “She what?” she asked, pausing for just a moment before continuing inside. “You did the right thing.”

“That’s what I said. And I just hope I didn’t hurt her too much when I knocked her out.” Once he was inside her carefully set Austen down on the couch, before turning back to his mother. “I don’t know what happened to her.”

‘Thank you.’ The wolf smiled wide. ‘Do we..’ they paused. ‘Are we going to your place?’ It worried them some, but they trusted him, so it faded quickly.

‘We can do whatever you’re most comfortable with. As long as you have food at your house we should be good for either.’

‘Would you mind cooking for me too?’

‘Not at all. I would love to.’

Rose had been going over details, information she’d gathered to come up with a plan when her thoughts were interrupted by a bang at the door. Protesting with a sigh she moved to the door, picking up the pace when she heard her son’s voice and cracked the door to see what was going on. “AJ.” She wasn’t sure what else to say, not when she didn’t understand the context of the situation, so she simply opened the door and walked out to assist her son in getting his sister inside. “What happened?” 

He shifted uncomfortably when she used his name, although he hoped she would write it off as the stress of carrying an entire other person on his body. It was only a matter of time until the simple process of elimination got him on that one anyway, he just hoped her memory was foggy enough for it to remain a non-issue. “She said she didn’t want to merge,” Aj explained as they entered her home. “I sort of panicked.”

That gave them an idea. ‘Food?’

‘I don’t like let other people make mine if I can avoid it. So I like to think I’ve made myself become a decent cook.’

It hadn’t been easy dragging his unconscious sister to their mother’s home, but he had done it. Without any free hands he had to kick at her door instead of knocking. “Ma! It’s me, open up.”

“I spent three years wishing you’d come home. Now I just wish you’d leave again.”

“I’m sorry that you feel that way.” With his final words on the matter said he struck his sister directly in the temple with his fist, knocking her unconscious.

“No one had to.. I figured that one out all on my own. You left. You left behind a note just saying that you’d be back for the merge. Three years ago I might have pretended to go along with mom’s stupid plans, but not anymore.”

“So by your own admission you have no idea what you’re talking about. You made up your mind about something with literally zero evidence. Yet I’m supposed to be the crazy one here. So that really is it, huh? You’re just mad that I left, and you think it’s mom’s fault.”

‘Popcorn?’ the wolf suggest after a moment of desperate consideration.

‘That just makes me hungry.’

“It’s been pounded into our head since the day we were born, do you really think I could forget anything about it?”

“Then why are you doubting it? Who told you that mom was wrong?”

“I’m not confused. I know exactly what I want and it’s not to merge.”

“Because you’ve obviously forgotten how the merge actually works.”

[foolsgxld]

austcnparkcr:

“You sound so ridiculous. You sound just like her. Mom just wants us to merge so she can have her stupid cult coven back. We both know you’re going to run to her as soon as I leave, so go ahead, tell Mom how I’m such a horrible traitor. I’ve never hated you, Aj. Don’t you dare think for a second that I don’t want to merge because I hate you.”

“You obviously hate mom.” Although he couldn’t understand why. “She’s not asking us to do anything that wasn’t done for hundreds of years, if they could all do it then why should we be any different? And what’s so bad about wanting to have a coven? It’s no different than a wolf wanting to have a pack,” he still thought she could be reasoned with. “You’re not a traitor, you’re just confused, obviously you’re just confused.”
