“Perhaps they are.” the hybrid mused as he smiled at his child. He’d always see the little town as boring, and utterly insignificant despite it’s history now that he had everything he wanted in New Orleans, but given the circumstances, he could understand their point. “I’m glad to hear it my dear.” he admitted, grateful for the news. Their question made him pause as he debated on how to answer. He knew he took too long, but that didn’t stop him from picking up as if he hadn’t missed a beat. “She’s been busy.” he offered gently. “I suppose being back home has had quite the effect on her.”
His answer served to do what they expected. Calm them, as he expressed his own calm. Their father could have such a storm raging in him -- yet enter a room with more composure than seemingly possible. And then there were the times he could not, and those were the ones they worried most. ‘I don’t hate it here,’ they assured him with a smile. ‘The people are nice.’
