Solstice Celebration. Rock Stack and Walk.

On Saturday, June 21, we will celebrate the summer solstice by going at 5:00 p.m. to the desert west of town to stack on-site rocks into yet another circle in our on-going effort to create there a permanent labyrinth site.  We will then walk the circles and eat a good desert meal.

Meet at the Broulims parking lot at 5:00 p.m. to arrange rides. We will then drive west on mainstreet that turns into the highway for 13 miles on past Beaver Dick Park, park and walk about a mile to the site. If you are a little late, drive until you see the cars and the spiral signs, and follow them. I will mark the path well.

Those bringing equipment or having elderly or very small children can ride in pickup trucks (or hearty vans).

I will bring sloppy Joes, homemade root beer, and plates/ cups/ plastic ware. Others can provide salads, deserts, and buns on a pot luck basis. You choose.

If you have a wheelbarrow or a large pry bar, please bring them (we can haul them in my truck). A small chain saw for sage brush?

At any rate, wear hiking shoes, and working clothes. Gloves?

Once again, we will have a wonderful time. Bring a friend.

Porcupine and Eagle

The lumbering, quill-studded quadruped

waddles the shy, long way round,

ascends the camas desert tree.

Midwinter sap calls it up and out.

Clumsy, it does not think:

If I fall I could stab myself.

But it is true. True as the green sky:

where afternoon blue meets sun sinking

orange.
