What To Do On a Friday Night? How About Footgolf?
For as fun as they used to be, Friday nights have a tendency to get stale. It seems that each year older you get, streaming whole seasons of television shows on Netflix sounds more exciting than hitting the clubs to get your groove on. There's a surging sport known as footgolf that could help return some of the thrill to the weekends. Footgolf combines the physical activity of soccer with the strategy of golf to create an enthralling competition that all ages and genders can enjoy.
What Is Footgolf?
Combining soccer and golf, footgolf offers the best of both worlds to those looking for a new thrill. The rules are basically the same as golf, players tee off and attempt to put a ball into a hole in as few strokes as possible. In this instance though, there are no golf clubs needed and the ball is a standard soccer ball instead of a tiny dimpled golf ball. Players kick the ball from station to station until they finally sink that nerve-wracking putt-kick
Where Is Footgolf Played?
FootGolf started off being played in parks, similar to the also popular frisbee golf. For the full experience though footgolf should be played on a standard golf course. Half the adventure of footgolf is trying to kick the ball past bunkers or risking sailing a boot over a water hazard. Unlike golf, a footgolf ball that lands in the drink is often retrieved so instead of extra golf tees it might be wise to pack a pair of water wing floaties in the supply bag.
What Makes FootGolf Fun?
When an amateur sets out on a standard golf course for the first time, it can be anything but a fun experience. It's not exactly a thrilling Saturday chasing ball after ball into the woods and if a person wanted to spend two hours in the sand they should've just went to the beach instead. Usually by hole number 6 a beginner golfer is more interested in driving the cart and keeping an eye out for the beverage server to drive by.
Along those same lines, soccer is usually a sport that requires about 8-12 other people to play to get the most enjoyment. It can be hard to corral these friends, especially because a game of soccer is so physically exerting. Luckily footgolf was invented to create the best of both worlds.
Footgolf can be played with as little as one other person or legitimately solo to help work on the game. Kicking a ball is difficult to grasp, but still ten times easier than hitting a 1-1/2” white ball with a 7-iron. The gameplay is brisk enough to work up a little sweat but not too exhausting that a shower and a change of clothes is needed afterward.
Footgolf is a great way to work up an appetite for a Friday night dinner or trip to the dance floor or it's a great way to get some fresh air before retiring to a night of Netflix. It truly is the sport of versatility.
