hi, just wanted to say that I absolutely I love your blog :) and as a huge forensic science dork I was wondering if you would post (or know of other blogs that post) some more advanced material regarding the science, thanks so much in advance <3

Hey Nonnie, sorry this took forever to respond, but I promise you it's worth it. I do not know of any other forensic science blogs, but I may have something in the works regarding more advanced material. Also, the term advanced may be relative considering my forensic science education is limited to one class I took in high school. But I'll try my best!

Physical Evidence: Fibers- Any natural or synthetic fiber whose transfer can be used to establish a relationship between objects and people. Can be used to connect victim to assailant or assailant to crime scene.

Physical Evidence: Firearms and ammo- Any firearm, as well as intact or discharged ammo , suspected of being involved in a crime. Can be used to identify the weapon which can lead to the killer.

Note: Bananas are a killer source of potassium.

Physical Evidence: Glass- any glass particle or fragments that could have transferred to a person or object during a crime. Window panes containing holes are included. Can be used to link suspects to the crime because of Locard's Exchange Principal. Break patterns are also taken into consideration.

Physical Evidence: Impressions- This includes tire markings, shoe prints, depressions in soil, glove or fabric impressions, and bite marks in skin and food. Can be used to link suspects to the crime.

Physical Evidence: Soil and Minerals- all items that have soil or minerals on them that could be linked to a person or objects to a particular area. Can be used by an entomologist to tell if a body has been moved or where the victim/killer was before death occurred.

Physical Evidence: Drugs- Any substance seized relating to the manufacture, distribution, and use of illegal drugs. Can be used for drug busts.

Physical Evidence: Blood, Semen, and Saliva- All suspected blood, semen, and saliva- liquid or dried, animal or human- present that is suspected to be in relation to suspects of the crime in question. Can be used to solve murders, rapes, and manslaughter using DNA evidence.

Physical Evidence: Documents- any handwriting and typewriting/ink whose source or authenticity is in question. Can be used to solve forgery and identity theft. Burned or charred documents are included

Physical Evidence: Organs and Physiological Fluids-body organs and fluids are tested for drugs and poisons. Can be used to solve manslaughter and murder by determining what drugs/ poisons were used, if any.

Physical Evidence: Explosives- Anything with an explosive charge or aftermath of an explosion. Can be used to solve bombings.

Physical Evidence: Fingerprints- all prints of this kind, latent or visible. Can be used to solve burglary or murder if the criminal doesn't wear gloves.
