Today marks 21 years without the Tex-Mex queen, Selena Quintanilla-Perez. Whenever I see photos of her or hear her music, especially on days like today, I feel this overwhelming sense of loss. Loss for music, loss for her fans, loss for the latinx culture, loss for the world, loss for what she could have been, what music could have been. It’s a bit freaky and empowering at the same time to recognize the fact that while her existence is long gone, her music is alive and her legacy continues to grow everyday. Thank you for your music, thank you for being the incredible artist you were, thank you for being one of the most influential fashion icons, thank you for representing of a community that needed to be represented, and thank you for being the inspiration you continue to be. You are truly missed.
