Everly has to use every ounce of willpower in her tiny body to keep herself from shrieking. He wouldn’t do something if she didn’t want him to and just him saying that is enough to make her feel all kinds of giddy. “Maybe you shouldn’t punch him then. Let’s keep you away from violence if you don’t like it. It’s not my fave, either,” she decides with a smile. “Gosh, you are sweet. And you should be a motivational speaker. You have me wanting to change my world and it’s been a two second conversation. I think I need you to give me pep talks like this way more often while we’re here. You’ll keep my spirits up for sure.” 

“No punching from me. I’m totally okay with that. There are other ways to get messages across anyway, so I feel like it wasn’t even necessary to begin with,” Forest agrees with her no-fighting stance. “A motivational speaker?” he laughs. “I don’t know about that one. Though I guess it’s sort of my job to motivate people? So maybe I already am a motivational speaker and I don’t even know it?” he wonders aloud. “But I can easily give you daily pep talks while we’re here! Every girl needs her hype man, don’t you think?” he teases.

“I would be down. Although, does it really matter if I’m down since you’d be the one that’s doing it? As long as you’re down, I’d say any of us are down,” she reasons. Everly knows he’s joking and she hopes that he knows she’d never actually expect him to punch another guy. She can’t help but blush a little at what he’s saying next. The man is gorgeous. Drop dead gorgeous and she can’t believe that he’s talking this highly about her. “Well, thank you. I guess I just never really thought about myself that way. Maybe I should start, though…”

“Well, yeah, I need to be down too, but I wouldn’t do it if you didn’t want me to,” Forest tells her sincerely. “I’m not typically the violent type, so I wouldn’t just punch someone for no reason,” he adds. Everly’s opinion of him really matters to him, even if they just met. He doesn’t want her thinking he’s a bad guy. “I definitely think you should start!” he’s encouraging her. “I’m telling you, with the right amount of confidence, you can change the world. Even if it’s just your world. Feeling good about yourself is so powerful and you deserve that, Everly.”

“Listen, I’m not usually one for violence but I actually think I’d be down to see you throw a couple of punches at him. He’s such a jerk and it might be exactly what he deserves,” Everly says with a soft shake of her head. She blushes when he brings up her saying she didn’t know she was stunning and she nods. “I did. I definitely don’t think I’m ugly or anything, I just don’t usually use the word stunning when it comes to myself. Ya know? I don’t wanna come off like a giant jerk or some overconfident bitch.” 

“Yeah? You’d be down? Because I’ll do it,” Forest offers, all too willing after how he treated everyone. “Show him a thing or two and put him in his place,” he adds with a slight wrinkle of his nose to show Everly that he’s mostly joking. When she explains herself, he’s shaking his head. “I don’t think you would come off as a jerk or overconfident or anything if you ever referred to yourself as stunning but you made it seem like you didn’t even know you were, and that’s tragic, really,” he shrugs.

Everly appreciates the little brush against her arm and she definitely can’t hide the smile she has in response. “Oh, for sure. He definitely dislikes puppies. I wouldn’t be surprised at all. I’m just glad he’s not here. At least so far. He’s the kind of guy they love having around,” she mentions with a little shake of her head. “I do think so. For sure,” she nods, trying to keep any further blushing from occurring so she doesn’t embarrass herself. And then he’s complimenting her and she knows she’s a goner. “Stop. I definitely don’t think that I’m stunning so I’d say I didn’t already know that one. Thank you, though. It means a lot coming from you.” 

“Ugh, if he shows up at some point I’m gonna start throwin punches,” Forest jokes as he raises his fists in a mock fighting stance and jabs forward a couple times for added effect. “Nah, just kidding. Definitely won’t be too thrilled though,” he shakes his head. Hearing her deflect the compliment has Forest’s eyes widening and his eyebrows raising. “Excuse me?” he asks her, hand coming back to the girl’s arm to get her full attention. “Did you just tell me you didn’t know you were stunning??”

“Oh my gosh, Chad!” Everly says, instantly remembering him and nodding. “I totally remember seeing him. He was such a douche. Which might be a tad harsh of me since I don’t even know him personally, but oh well,” she shrugs innocently. “Anyone who doesn’t like puppies is some kind of evil human being. I bet Chad doesn’t like puppies,” she teases playfully. When he’s calling her cute, she blushes a little and shakes her head. She flashes him her brightest grin and nudges his arm just a little bit. “You are ridiculously attractive. Can I just put that out there? I want to live in your smile because I’m obsessed with it.”

“No, no. You’re more than allowed to say it. He was a douche,” Forest assures her with a subtle brush against her arm. “He was definitely the type of guy who would dislike puppies. Which is just.. I mean, I already knew I didn’t want to be friends with him, but even if I just knew he didn’t like puppies I would have steered clear of him,” he laughs. Forest notices the blush that starts to appear on Everly’s cheeks and he’s certainly pleased. “Oh, you think so?” he teases when she’s telling him she thinks he’s attractive. His smile is only growing the more she talks. “Could say the same about yours. You’re just... stunning in general, but I’m sure you know that,” he reasons.

“Yeah, I was. I loved almost all of the girls on my season which is not always the norm I hear,” Everly tells him with a chuckle. “How about your season? Did you get along with a lot of the guys?” She is trying really hard not to completely just fall over with how beautiful he is. She’s gotta at least try to save that for a few days in. Everly laughs when he remembers her as the girl with the puppy and she’s quick to nod her head. “I sure was. I’m so glad you remembered. That was totally the goal.” 

“Oh, really? That’s great! I’m happy to hear you had a good experience like that. I don’t know that I can exactly say the same,” Forest chuckles. “Most of the guys I was chill with, but there was this one guy. Chad? He was like the villain on my season. He hated me for some reason and made my time there not so fun,” he sighs with an eye roll. “Of course I remembered that! Who doesn’t like puppies?!” he exclaims. “Easily the cutest arrival of that season,” he tells her. “Plus, the puppy was pretty adorable, too,” he adds with a cheeky grin.

“Oh, for sure. Definitely all in his head,” Everly agrees with another chuckle. Now that he’s closer to her and putting his hand out, she’s really able to see how gorgeous he really is. He’s got a smile that would light up the room if they were in one and he is definitely her type. “Forest? I love that,” she tells him genuinely and with a big grin as she puts his hand out into his outstretched one. “I’m Everly. I was on Jason’s season,” she tells him, knowing that’s obviously where he would have had to see her. g to enjoy “It’s nice to meet you Forest,” she adds in with another smile. Being on the beach and getting to enjoy this beautiful view would definitely be made better by having Forest around. She could tell that already. 

“Everly,” Forest repeats with a bigger grin this time. Even just the way her hand fits in his when she’s shaking it is something he likes. Obviously there are lots of other girls here and lots more that will show up, but he’s definitely feeling some type of way already. Which is pretty nice, actually. “Oh, Jason’s season, that’s right,” he nods. “I remember now. You were friends with some of the other girls that season, right? Claire and Megan and all of them... Are you the one who hopped out of the limo the first night with a puppy?”

As Everly takes another sip of the mojito she had just gotten, she takes another look around at the people that had started to accumulate around her. She was excited about this whole experience, but also kind of nervous. It had been her sister who had originally signed her up for the show and after a blindsided heartbreak, she was definitely a bit anxious about going through something so similar. At the very least, she was looking at this as a chance to make some friends and enjoy some time living on the beach.

As she looks up from her drink, she spots a super attractive man just a few feet away from her. She takes a deep breath and walks over to him. Everly looks around quickly to try to find something to break the ice and a guy that somehow already looks drunk even though they haven’t even been there for twenty minutes seems like the perfect place to start. “I imagine he won’t be making any meaningful connections tonight,” she starts as she gestures to the other guy. “Well, except with the toilet.” 

“Hi,” Forest says when there’s suddenly a girl walking over to him. He wasn’t sure what to expect of this experience, but knowing that it’s different this time around, and that he’s not necessarily competing with a bunch of other dudes for the same girl makes him pretty happy. And the fact that a girl has broken the ice? Definitely points for her in his book. He glances over when she mentions the guy, and he’s chuckling as he nods his head. “I’d say you’re probably right. And if he claims he had made any, they were probably all in his head,” he jokes as he looks back at her. Huh. Very cute. And quite his type. “I’m Forest,” he tells her, putting his hand out to her. “What’s your name? You look familiar.”

Forest’s goal? Make a connection with at least one person before the first day was over. Part of the show was about receiving roses in order to stay, and he knew that it wasn’t likely he was going to get the chance to talk to every single person on the island before the night was over, but as long as he made a connection with someone who would be willing to give him a rose and buy him some time on the show, he was happy. Plus, maybe that person would end up being the one. If he’s lucky.

Stepping out towards the beach and bar area, he looks around and smirks at what he sees. Everyone is so damn attractive. He’s certainly going to have some fun if nothing else.

With Jonah, it didn’t even feel like she was making herself a burden, a pleasant turn of events considering her initial hesitations. That was probably just because he was one of the most accommodating people she knew; he’d also had plenty of time to adapt to her disability meaning she wouldn’t have to constantly remind him of her limitations. “You don’t mind?” she brightened, excited by the idea of spending the day with her friend. He’d keep her safe in case the crowds on opening day were as bad as she was predicting. “Thank you so much. Same goes for you, you know. If you want us to go see something special.” She took note of his deliberate use of listen and appreciated that as well. “Isaac – he’s up on floor four – said he was going to weave flowers into my hair. Won’t that be pretty?” she gushed excitedly, feeling altogether more comfortable with the idea of this festival.

“No, I don’t mind at all,” Jonah shook his head, only assuring her that much more. “We live in the same building but we hardly ever talk or do anything, so it’ll be nice to hang out with you,” he added for good measure. It was always nice to hang out with Rory and he truthfully wasn’t sure why more people weren’t going out of their way to spend time with her. Listening to her gushing, Jonah’s smile only grew even more. “Definitely. It’ll look awesome, Aurora. If anyone can pull off something like that, it’s you.”

“So the discount store had clearance marshmallows. Naturally I bought four packs. Wanna play chubby bunny with me?”

The combined sound of his voice, assurance it was him and the light touch to her arm instantly made Rory feel less like she was intruding on whatever he’d been doing before she’d interrupted. “Thank you,” she smiled gently, covering his hand with hers for a quick squeeze of appreciation. “You are? It sounds really fun so I think you definitely should! I want to, yeah. It’s actually kind of why I asked.” She thought for a moment, trying to devise a way to phrase her question where it didn’t sound presumptuous from any angle. “You don’t think there’s any chance I could tag along with you? I’m kind of really bad with crowds. Plus I need someone with a fully functional pair of eyes to tell me all the pretty things being sold – and worn!”

Rory’s squeeze back was all the affirmation he needed. Jonah pulled his hand away hesitantly and slid his hands into his pockets as she spoke. He wondered just what she’d think if she could see him. It was dumb, but he always wondered if she’d find him attractive or just average or ugly. It didn’t matter though, especially since he knew that she’d be his friend no matter what universe they were in. She was just that kind of person. She would be his friend even if she could see and thought he was ugly. “It does sound fun. I love music, so I was already planning on going, for sure,” he agreed with a nod of his head. A dopey little smile etched its way onto Jonah’s face at her next proposal. Spending an entire afternoon- maybe even more - with someone as soft as Rory? Definitely something he was happy to agree to. “No, yeah. Of course. I was probably going to wander around aimlessly anyway, so you’re more than welcome to join me in that,” he laughed. “And if you wanna listen to anything specific or find anything in particular, you can just let me know and I’ll guide you in the right direction.”

While the idea of a music festival in and of itself was appealing, the concept of actually going was a whole different story. Isaac and Cameron had offered to (essentially) babysit the blind girl and guide her through the crowds if ever she needed, but third wheeling for the duration wasn’t something she felt like she could do. So, the night before the Big Day, she had taken it upon herself to find a companion for at least some of the time. Hearing a familiar voice, she went up to the person, tapping them on the shoulder and waiting until they turned around before offering a vague leading statement after a greeting and a smile. “So… are you going to the festival tomorrow?” she asked hopefully.

Jonah felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around to see none other than the small and soft Rory. He smiled at the familiar face and nodded his head, only realizing a second later that he couldn’t be seen. “Yeah, I was planning on it. Are you?” he asked her. “It’s Jonah, by the way” he added, placing his hand just above her elbow as he normally did. It was something he had done at one point and the gesture just kind of stuck. He hoped it was reassuring more than anything else.

Biting on her lip, she took the transition of topics slowly, fiddling with her fingers. She supposed it was a mental note of sorts, to remind herself that Jonah had this side. A self deprecating side. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing— it was just something Sam felt like she should keep in mind, for… future purposes, possibly. “Hmm,” she hummed taking a second to think about it. It was one of those questions. People often threw seemingly meaningless questions to find out what kind of person you are– if, you had the same taste… it was an unsettling thought. “If I had to?” she sighed, groaning. “That’s, like, the hardest question anyone could ever ask.” She chuckled, looking down. For some reason, Sam was hit with a blast of 80s rock her father use to play whilst growing up. He loved Queen. “I Want to Break Free,” she blurted, a nostalgic look plastered on her face. “—I remember…,” she chuckled, recalling the memory. “My dad playing this song constantly after Anna was born. He was so head over heels for my mom, and he was like– the biggest Queen fan.” It was such a bittersweet memory, because that’s when Sam could recall what a family was like. Now, she wasn’t so sure. “As for color, I’d have to go with…” she trailed, heaving a sigh. “…Dark purple,” she laughed, feeling silly. “What about you?” she turned, curious.

“You’re kidding,” Jonah replied, surprise and disbelief laced in his tone. “My dad really liked Queen, too. Played their songs constantly. I think I actually have most of their songs on my first iPod. Probably because I was so young that I couldn’t load the songs on there myself so he picked them all for me,” he laughed, remembering the summer days when they would listen to Queen, Journey, and The Police out in the backyard while Addison and Bailey played on the swingset. The memory was a pleasant one. One he wished he could go back to for a bit. Things were better between him and Addison back then. Less tense. “That is a good song though. I think mine would have to be The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson,” he confessed to her, pulling into the parking lot of the restaurant. “And it would definitely be a sky blue. It just reminds me of good vibes and excitement and happiness, you know?”

They lips tug into a smirk, as if amused by what the man said. “Sure,” they responded. “That could work. We’ll try asking three times, and then take matter into our own hands? There’s nothing we can’t do without a little Google and a wrench. The maintenance crew can suck it.”

“They can, and honestly, most things can be fixed yourself just by looking up tutorials on youtube. I’ve saved lots of money that way,” Jonah added with a friendly smile. “So, if they don’t help us, we can try that first.”
