what really fucks me up about watching the truman show in 2025 is how it's not fictional. truman is fictional, but the truman show isn't.

there's thousands of truman shows. you find them on youtube, tiktok, instagram... family and mommy vloggers, sad beige moms and now the trend of neglectful moms showing the "reality" of parenting. all of them using their kids for entertainment. each child their own truman; living a life manufactured by their parents, a camera watching their every moment, broadcasted for the entire world to see.

Every time you re-read Discworld you find new stuff you had not seen before.

For example, I checked Wyrd Sisters again. This is the first time I noticed that when Granny "summons the Truth" at the end, it is said the words that force themselves in the actors' mouths are those that were preserved in the very stones of the castle.

Which fits exactly Granny's own explanation to Magrat earlier that she would have tried the stone, and has an "acquired taste" for stones when doing magic.

Through the main-series "Witches books" there's a sort of running subtle motif of Granny being connected to rocks and stones, which in retrospective also makes sense why there would be a connection between her and Tiffany later on (after all Tiffany also draws power from the rock so to speak - see Miss Tick's entire "magical geology" speech and Tiffany's plunging into the Chalk from "Wee Free Men")
