After his kolinahr went awry, Stor is left a tormented shell of the investigator he once was. Now plagued by bouts of lost time with cracked and bleeding knuckles, he becomes fixated on a young woman, the wife of his old friend at the science academy. The possibility of a Katra ceremony long forgotten and the illusion of perfect reason replacing absent memory chase him down a tunnel of taboo obsession.

Inspector Levok’s vacation in small town Nabirsk is cut short when a body of a young woman is discovered in the library of one of Cardassia’s local New Economic Policy banker families. The woman has lazuli in her spoon and on her lips, freshly glossed black hair, and an expensive dress. What makes it most concerning is that no one knows her, nor how her body came to be there. Does she have a connection with the charred body later found in the empty quarry? What does this have to do with the upcoming hound races the region is famous for?
The grimy, unpatrolled streets of Laket are a dark and dangerous place. Inspector Levok of the Ministry of Justice is one of the few men standing in the way of total anarchy.
When the industrialist and philanthropist Pravet is found brutally slain in his opulent mansion in a room locked from the inside, it is just one item too many on Levok’s docket. In a city full of drugs, gangs, theft, and mysterious disappearances, the murder stands out because of its victim’s prominence. His civilian supervisor advises him to close it quickly, but the deeper he digs, the less the case makes sense.
The wealth on display in the family's townhome doesn't match the numbers in his account books. His grieving widow is desperate to protect the family's reputation. His eldest son stands to inherit a fortune but from where? His younger daughter harbored a bitter feud against her father, while the man's ambitious brother insists his business is above reproach. The missing nephew is not mentioned at all.
Worse still, Levok's on-again, off-again lover, a streetwalker named Saraol, was with the industrialist the night he died, but despite leaving while he was still alive, Saraol confesses to the murder the moment she's brought in for questioning.
As contradictions mount and powerful interests close ranks, levok finds himself trapped between family secrets, political pressure, and a crime behind a locked door that should be impossible.
Who is Saraol protecting? Where did the eldest son’s fortune come from? What happened to the missing nephew? And most of all, how did Pravet die, and who killed him?
“There were horrendous, dramatic, violent quantities of green slime—oodles of it. It covered Howl completely. It draped his head and shoulders in sticky dollops, heaping on his knees and hands, trickling in glops down his legs, and dripping off the stool in sticky strands. It was in oozing ponds and crawling pools over most of the floor. Long fingers of it had crept into the hearth. It smelled vile.
“Save me!” Calcifer cried in a hoarse whisper. He was down to two desperately flickering small flames. “This stuff is going to put me out!”
Sophie held up her skirt and marched as near Howl as she could get—which was not very near. “Stop it!” she said. “Stop it at once! You are behaving just like a baby!”

okay but what was the TITLE of the noncon to dubcon sex slave tentacle alien story??? 👀 👀 👀
The story is called Mother by Philip José Farmer! First published in 1953. I found it in a collection of his stories called Strange Relations while at a big used book store sale and it has this phenomenal cover
I mean look at that thing! And the story was more like the art than I expected! I fully expected the plant to just be a sexy lady at some point.
That being said, I have also found another version of the cover that is uhhhh… more accurate to the story.
Reader, I have been searching for a PDF of this since reading it a week and a half ago. I haven’t found one yet. I am close to just scanning each page individually in order to share this story with other internet perverts more of you deserve to experience this work
