Judas

Ok, so I feel like I have to share something with y’all in reference to Judas, just to give some perspective. I was at a retreat one weekend and we put on this drama of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. I was chosen to play the part of James at first. Then the next day, I was informed I had to play Judas, which was a role I had never hoped to play. I’ve done this drama many times and played different roles and at one point, I played Peter and lemme tell you, whenever I had to deny Jesus three times, I felt ashamed. But man oh man, whenever I played Judas, it was so eye opening. So the scene was at the Last Supper and of course I had to run off to betray Jesus. Then it turned into the scene at the Agony of the Garden. The guards pushed me to Jesus and I purposely fell and I was ashamed to look at the person playing Jesus. I had to give him a kiss and then run off stage. Then I had to watch Jesus be beaten, spat upon, whipped, and crucified because I betrayed Him. I cried so much knowing that I was the one that sent Him to His death. I killed Jesus. A few weeks prior to the retreat, I felt very apathetic about my faith. I wanted to continue to live in sin and I had thoughts about leaving the Church. Then, by the grace and power of God, my faith was restored. But I knew now that God had placed me as Judas to see what happens when people continue to betray Jesus every single day. To know that my sins nailed Jesus to the cross. To know that I was the reason He died for me. While I should be rejoicing in the fact that that was what Jesus came to do, it sucked because of the reason He had to do it. Because I’m stupid and I should know better but I continue to sin and spit in Jesus’ face whenever I do. I write this in hopes to open someone’s eyes about why we can be Judas sometimes and that we’re so quick to judge him for what he did whenever we do it every day. I want people to understand that there’s much that goes on whenever we sin. We spit in Jesus’ face, we slap Him and we offend God most of all. So it might take some time, but I know we can overcome sin. Thank you for reading and God bless.

Closeness to God isn’t about the situation you’re in. It’s not about how you feel, or where you’ve been, or what you’ve done. It’s about obedience. How far you’re willing to hear His word and put it into practice. Closeness to God isn’t an emotion, or a memory, or a set of circumstances.

Closeness to God is a daily devotion to do the things He asks of you. It’s that simple.
