okay aesthetics aside Testament isn’t really the grim reaper but they are absolutely elegant

and sometimes their face turns into a skull or they summon monsters with blood magic but no big deal no big deal

at the moment they are without EXE Beast, so this will be updated with EXE Beast when they get it back!

while they’ll be a bit disconcerted without their powers because that means their physiology has inherently changed, they’ll soon get over it when they’re able to see everything there is to do on the island

enjoys tea, and has literally 35 different hobbies

but hey you’d also have 35 hobbies if you spent the past several decades in the forest

❤ "Heya, Testament! Quick question! Have you found any clothing stores around here that are, you know, more our style?" The two of them might have been shopping on different halves of a store, but the foundational styles of their fashion sense seemed to be shared. It was just colours that they deviated on. Elphelt was so over wearing black!

"Oh, and how are you doing? Been here long this time? Made any friends? No anyone that could host a concert maybe? Or maybe someone single!?" They didn't have to be the same person.

"Mm, there is one at the mall. Come with me, and we can chat on the way." They hold out their arm for her to take, figuring that the young Gear would want to walk around arm in arm.

While they started walking toward the Mermaid Cove Mall in Golden Ward, they answered the rest of her questions happily.

"I am doing quite well - I have not been here too long, I have met a few new people." They continue walking, "Glad to be here with a familiar face. And yes, I do know a few potential venues for a concert, I hear there is a talent agency run by a lovely young woman. Not single, from what I hear."

👻 "What's with that look? You never seen a jack-o-lantern before?" She'd gone out to put the one she had carved out on her own porch, but this stranger had stopped to gawk? Or was there just something else on their mind? It was a pretty standard jack-o-lantern face!

"Or are you in awe of my artistic talents? Horohorohoro!"

"The latter, actually." They lean forward, tilting their head from one side to the other, before deciding on something.

"Mmm, I've never carved a pumpkin myself." As though a switch was flipped in them, and they went from their usual calm self to a level of bashful excitement.

"Would you teach me?"

⠀⠀⠀THEY'VE ⠀lived over a century, just like her. Well — she imagines it's more difficult for this human, if they are human, than it is for a Nikke. Particularly a Grimms model like her... She can pick and choose what memories to cull for the sake of storage, but she can only assume this stranger doesn't have that luxury (and curse). This little tidbit piques her interest almost more than the city does. Of course, the city — this improbable island — takes precedence, but...

⠀⠀⠀Dorothy extends a dainty hand, transfixed; Testament's movements are a little stiff, but have a certain charm to them she can't help but appreciate.   ⠀❛ ⠀Pleased to meet you. 210 for me, so it seems we'll be housed quite close. … If it isn't too personal, I'd like to know — do you remember all of those hundred-plus years ?⠀❜ ⠀

"It is personal I suppose, but I really don't mind answering. Especially since I approached you first." Perhaps once upon a time they would have felt it too sensitive a subject to answer. Perhaps once upon a time such a question would hurt them to speak on, but if they did not live with their sins, then who would?

"An extended explanation would require more than a walk with a neighbor, but the simple answer is yes. I remember my life a human, and the years since then.

"Unfortunately, even when someone else controls your actions, that doesn't mean you aren't a passenger." As simple an explanation as they can offer, without something more in-depth and more knowledge about Gears and Justice and the Backyard than the woman from another world certainly has.

Understanding dawns on him even as he looks mildly taken aback. They talk about bonsai like some work of art, but he'd rarely seen those principles applied to the living. Trees, flowers, fruit—in his time they served practical purposes only, to be consumed or used, not admired.

"I thought it might feed a small animal," he admits honestly.

Like a pet, or some tinier creature who only ate bite-sized food. Cultivating something small for small's sake was a strange hobby to him but—yes, he couldn't deny the advantages if you wanted to transport it somewhere else. It could be a pastime you took with you on the go.

"And are there little people to go with it?" he asks. After all, some of the bonsai pots around the room were equipped with tiny benches or even miniature gardens. You'd think someone was supposed to sit in them.

"I suppose if you have a small lizard or other frugivorous pet, that's not a bad idea." They still can't help but chuckle, almost turning into a full-on laugh, or about as close as they could get, when he continued speaking and asked his next question.

"No, no," they wave at him, trying not to embarrass the stranger too much with their laughter, which certainly disrupted the presentation at least temporarily.

"Not as far as I know. Although there are some delightful fae living in Cotes that may love to have a new place to sit."

Arms crossed, Veoc watches patiently as the old man before him extolls the virtues of the world's smallest pomengranate tree. The leaves are full and the trunk intricately twisted; as the man moves on to praising the fruit, the major general's eyes wander to the figure beside him listening with equal attention.

He leans over slightly to avoid catching the man's attention, and murmurs in a small voice, "It doesn't look like there's much to eat."

He sounds a little embarrassed.

"It's bonsai." They lean over and whisper to the embarrassed man, almost a stage whisper at this point, to make sure if the owner of the carefully cultivated bonsai overheard the dark haired man, he knew they were correcting him.

"The point is to cultivate a tinier version of something. A miniature tree to tend to. Creating not only something this small, but one that bears fruit, requires great patience and training." The old man appreciated them, it seemed, familiarity in their eyes, as Testament was a frequent customer in the shop.

Still, they can't help but chuckle at the confusion. (Adorable.)

"It's not about growing food, but it is more about relaxing and concentration."

⠀⠀⠀❛ ⠀Things back home must be dire indeed for you to feel grateful to your captors,⠀❜ ⠀⠀DOROTHY ⠀says with what can only described as the opposite of reverence — although a similar level of astonishment. It stood out among everything else this stranger said; although it was all helpful (free housing already puts it several steps above the Ark, but not necessarily above Eden — a good gauge for its policies), how wonderful must a place be to evoke that level of complacency ? … Then again, humans have been complacent within the Ark for decades — aside from the lucky few who make it to a more veritable paradise in Eden. So, by that logic... Could this place be a paradise by comparison for a lot of these humans ? Or are they simply making the best out of a bad situation ? It's a start, merely a thought, but one worth taking into consideration as she gets to know this island.

⠀⠀⠀❛ ⠀'Cotes' was listed for me as well, so I can only assume we'll be seeing more of each other. I suppose I was too shocked to offer my name earlier — it's Dorothy. What should I call you ?⠀❜ ⠀

"Not dire, but once you reach over 100 and have been through the Crusades, you learn to appreciate the small things, such as living in proximity to fairies and other forest folk." A chuckle, and they place a hand on some of the stray plants in the entry of the housing district.

"My name is Testament. Although I have had other epitaphs before, I accept this name now." They turn, putting out a hand to shake as a greeting. The movements are some odd mixture of both graceful and awkward, as though such an elegant being was still unused to social situations.

"I have been living in and protecting a forest for a long period of time. Cotes ward certainly brings a level of nostalgia to my stay here. It does seem as though we will be neighbors. Cotes 205 for me."

⠀⠀⠀❛ ⠀Well, that certainly explains how you can be so cavalier about it.⠀❜ ⠀⠀TRUTHFULLY, ⠀she couldn't be any more unsettled. Had this stranger struck up conversation mere seconds earlier, it may have been the last little bit of stimulus that sent her careening towards a meltdown. Indeed, some of the potential bite still lingers in her voice. But more than anything, that mention of experience on their part is what assuaged Dorothy; she didn't trust them or this place for a second, but they could have a whole host of useful information in the interim.

⠀⠀⠀And so she keeps her growing unease sternly bottled, smoothing out imaginary creases in her skirt with the most pleasant smile she can manage. ⠀⠀❛ ⠀Where is here, exactly ? The driver was quite tight-lipped about the whole thing. The feeling is mutual, by the way — you're practically my complete opposite, but it looks so striking.⠀ ❜ ⠀Her short laughter sounds downright congenial, at odds with her slight hesitation before moving to follow them.

"I suppose so. Truly, at this point, I can hardly afford not to be cavalier about it." The hesitation is noted, but not remarked upon. Surely had they EXE Beast, or even their scythe, it may be even more understandable.

Still, they continue walking, allowing her to catch up on her own, "You are in Spirale City, on Radial Island. Things do tend to get interesting around here, but for the most part you'll simply be allowed to live your life until you're sent home. Peaceful isn't entirely the term I would use, but it's not entirely without charm."

"Mm, if anything, I'm pretty grateful to our captors this time around. I'm in Cotes Ward - one of four main wards you'll spend most of your time in." Gesturing around them, they continue walking further into the housing district. "Assigned housing. It's free, and this is one of the nicer areas. Not as much shopping as some other places, but it reminds me of home."

"Did you know," they speak to whomever approaches behind them without turning, "That this place was apparently dedicated to heroes?" A chuckle, letting their leg dangle off the cliff as they look into the depths, otherworldly voice echoing atop Savior's Respite, clearly inhuman.

"Heroes are silly things, aren't they?"

"They can be turned to villains, depending on the perspective." Leaning back, they finally look at their company. "Well, what do you think?"

"Martial arts are actually one of the few fighting styles I've...Little desire to pursue." They stood at the entrance to the Empyreal Amphitheatre in Sky-Strewn Isles, tilting their head as they considered their options. "But going all out seems risky against most. What to do...?"

Fighting wasn't something they entirely enjoyed, but they could feel the ache of EXE Beast whenever they came into the Isles, the crow manifesting and cawing at their shoulder.

"Perhaps I could forgo my scythe and allow for EXE Beast to do the fighting?" The crow cawed, and the attendant tried to ease their concerns.

"Well, we can also place you against some mental trials, or perhaps against a series of monsters if nobody else in attendance today suits your needs..."

"Delicious." They grabbed another one of the offered skewers to the shocked crowd, the sauce dripping off the sizzling meat an almost blood red. The sign above the stall in Gourmet Boulevard read 'The Spiciest Skewer Challenge', indicating a contest that allowed for one to eat free skewers if they finished the plate.

"I have a personal interest in barbecue, so this really whets my appetite." Another plate is placed in front of them as they continue to eat, turning back to the crowd that had formed.

"Would anyone like to join me? It hardly feels like a contest if I continue to eat alone." Between the skewers whose sauce stung the nose and made the eyes water even from five feet away, and the odd otherworldly reverberation of their voice, only the employees stayed anywhere close.

"Gorgeous," they cannot help but comment on the woman who appeared alongside them. Delicate lace, fabric folded in just the correct way to compliment her angelic features and frame. Nodding in approval, they gesture to her outfit. "While the angelic aesthetic is certainly not something that I could pull off, it compliments your features quite well."

"Have you been to this island before? This is, oh, my second or third time around. Quite nice stays, for the amount of time it chooses to contain me." Gesturing ahead of them to Cotes ward, they begin to walk. "I imagine you are also housed here, in Cotes. At least, that usually tended to be how it goes."
