Rewatched Eastern Promises again today, and was once again floored by how many layers Viggo Mortensen put on Nikolai Luzhin. I love that you can interpret him whatever way you like, and that is Correct. Is he an undercover cop trying to take down a criminal organization? Yes. Is he an ambitious snake in the grass using the limited protection and access of the police to achieve absolute criminal power? Yes. Is he willing to manipulate an unpredictable and dangerous man by queerbaiting him? Yes. Does he feel compassion for this same man who is also stuck in a cycle of violence and corruption from which he would perhaps like to be free? Yes. Is he lying all the time? Yes. Can you trust him? Yes.
He is all of those things. As he says in the film, he died at 15 and has lived in The Zone ever since. The Zone is whatever you want it to be. Truly his god tier performance.

I truly despise how the current fashion for "women's" shorts is either short shorts or fucking wide-legged jorts that make you look like you've got twigs for legs. Why is everything wide-legged right now, anyway, fuck off.
while jamming my entire body between two closing elevator doors today, i was met with wide eyes, and i thought to myself "this probably looks frightening to people that don't have a thorough technical understanding of how elevators work and the history behind why they are so insanely safe"
and then i remembered the story of the tenured civil engineering professor who, with a running start, would leap and throw himself full-force at skyscraper windows in order to demonstrate their structural properties, until one day the window popped out of the frame, unbroken of course, and he fell to his death
i hate the word spicy can we bring back calling things erotic
very important addition (via @growingsad)
Just let people say what they want. If they want to say "neuro spicy", it's literally none of your fucking business and it doesn't mean it's infantilization. You all police people way too much on this website regarding words people should or shouldn't say, thoughts people should or shouldn't have, entertainment people can or can't enjoy, and it continues until everything is so tense or rigid it breaks.
no im actually personally going to beat you up with my hands if you say neurospicy

In 2026, the chicest thing a gay actor can do is never explicitly come out as gay but also make it abundantly clear that he is. Coming out is too modern. Staying closeted is too old fashioned. But this method merges contemporary freedom with Old Hollywood glamour and allure, and it weeds out the dumbest people who truly donât get it. I call it the Pascal Method.
Taylor Swift does this
no she doesnât
You clearly don't go here or to queer history and signaling, or both, enough to have this conversation and I'm not going to explain it to you. You could have asked questions, you could have done even a modicum of research. You didn't and you made yourself look ignorant. Goodbye.
