SUBMIT A HEADQUARTERS DESIGN FOR A FURNITURE PIECE!
Actually, a great working station is what PoMo workers need.
There’s something kind of omnipotence about working at home.
The way your room converts into a studio room, with all the connected needs: the storage system, the cable organizer, the table lamps…The way you can chat with people from the other side of the world while wearing odd socks. Use that magic to combine this business attitude with a comfy personality.
Your challenge is to submit a home-office inspired design for a furniture piece.
12 designers, their special previews and an adventurous tour around the Europe of Design.
We are excited to present FORMABILIO ON TOUR, the first brave step towards Formabilio conquest of the entire world, which will bring us together in the discovery of three capitals of International Design.
This autumn promises to be hot for the sharing-design Community!
THE ROUTE: our road trip begins in London at Super Brands, the trade show dedicated to the most progressive furniture, lighting and interiors brands within the London Design Festival. For the second stage, the wind of the coolest design will lead us to Wien, where we will showcase our new products in the 7th edition of the colourful Vienna Design Week, a huge event enabling people to experience the many-faceted creative work in the fields of product, furniture and industrial design as well as experimental design. At the cry of bellicose 'Gimme some more!' we’ll drive to Lodz, to leave our mark at Lodsz Design Festival, currently the East-Central Europe's most significant and intern recognized design event.
THE TEAM: 12 intrepid creative felllows from Formabilio Community will accompany us in this journey on behalf of all of you, Formabilio people! It will be an opportunity to get together, exchange ideas and opinions, to spread the philosophy of sharing design and meet new sexy people.
The Londoners: Ivana Mannavola, Giancarlo Cutello, Marco Furlan and Fabrizio Mistretta.
Armed with very many digital stuffs, we are going to document everything and constantly invade the privacy of the crew: not-to-be-missed events, curious places, smart people so that you will not lose the best of the news emerging from the world of Design.
While we work hard, you can follow the Tour from the comfort of your smartphone/tablet etc.

Designed by Chiara Pellicano – our last interview here – among the 6 young co-founder of emergent Design Studio Gradosei and winning product of one of the former design contest of our Community, ‘Essential’, the dining table Dedalo answer entirely Formabilio brief: minimal, flawlessly sober, a ‘no-frills’ design.
A perspective play for the piedistal, composed by two twin trapezoids, slided and turned
Warm tones of olm wood for teh table top recall a sort of rural and craft tradition
The inspiration of this project is of a poetical accuracy: “Dedalo came into being from two layers overlapped. Elegance, movement and balance had to reach the perfect bond. The solution came while working on a graphic planning: merge and move geometries to gain the optical illusion of a third shape. The answer was in a perspective play between two twin trapezoids, slided and turned […] The result of a never-ending labyrinth baptized this dining table as “Dedalo”, from Greek myth”, tells the Designer.
It has to be said: less is more. Because the behind the pleasure of pure aesthetics there’s hard work, both in project and in production.
Here lays the powerful magnetism of this dining table, which in the middle of a Thursday evening dinner will make you ask your friend to stand up – please! -, pull away chairs and bend you down on the floor, to admire once again that irregular and still so symmetrical pedestal, those strict and snow white legs that are as thick as thieves with the top, that if called ‘basic’ is almost baroque!
The lightness you don’t expect – without taking a Kundera! - , thanks also to the virtuous match between the warm tones of olm wood (recalling a rural and craftmanship tradition) with the nearly industrial touch of the bearing base, made of white-lacquered beech.
Creativity, project and materials: missing something? Hands and passions of our craft Italian companies!
Nice week to everybody and enjoy the Community!
E’ il caso di dirlo: ‘less is more’.

Actually, we love hues and this does not pass by unnoticed. We hunt them unceasingly, choose them painstaking together with our partner companies and our Designers, we collect them with obsessive edge, waiting for the perfect furniture piece that will make flow the ideal furniture mix for you, good-design lovers. Among a timeless beige and the elegance of a dark grey, we often give way to a blue chair, a mint-turquoise side table or an emerald glove compartment, and we exactly feel attached to these gutsy nuances.
Maybe it’s because ‘Emerald’ has been elected as the colour of 2013, and that it transmit balance, harmony and a sense of “new life”.
Perhaps it’s due to the fact that people mentioned it 102 million times on social media, connecting it with such as familiar concept to Formabilio like respect for environment-friendly stuffs and quality of life.
Possibly, it’s because Pantone choose a blue/green tone for its online blog ‘Design’ section, or more honestly because it makes us happy and happiness, you know, it’s contagious!
For these and many other reasons, we want to give a small but sincere tribute to all the colours, tactfully influencing our everyday life, our home and decor and our feelings, by retracing a 50 years chromatic history, through the vibrant infographic realized by Pantone to celebrate an important anniversary.
Have a nice trip and…We’ll be in touch soon!

The Design Addicted's Guide to the Living Room Galaxy
This dusty sitting-room is going to self-destruct in 5…4…3…2…1
Please reload your living room.
However, DON’T PANIC: we collected for you some simple guide lines we follow too, when selecting the right project for Formabilio Collection.
We hope they will be useful to get you in the right mood for a contemporary inspiration, both in in choosing the furniture piece that fits to your home space or sketching your own design project. Let’s start the trip.
How does the contemporary living room look like?
Some time ago, we read an interesting article about The Future Of The Living Room, simply explaining how social changes in the home are driving new developments in the living room. As the theorist of “media convergence” Henry Jenkins suggests, "We can understand the future if we understand what people are doing when it's hard".
In terrestrial idiom, it means we are always in a hurry, watch TV while Twitting, work from home and often live in urban spaces and shoot down the partition between the traditional living room, dining room and kitchen.
Few, concrete sparks for imagine your own next living room. Let’s start the trip
1. Welcome home
When you choose a piece of furniture ask yourself: do I feel comfy with it? Comfort is the new black: it’s always à la mode.
Vico Magistretti sofa Sinbad – love to feel embrace by this soft blanket
2. Coffee or laptop?
Volumes transforms themselves adapting to most varied needs: read a book in solitude, stay with friends, and work from home using your laptop. So think flexible and multifunction.
Formabilio coffee-table Budapest – play with two modular elements
3.Who made this?
Anonomity and distance vs passion and humanization: you can catch it in a glance, when evaluating a design product. Valuing craftsmanship and local tradition goes well with a global and fine taste. So take your time to inquire and make the right choice!
4. Size does matters
Day or night, open or closed, always make sure of not too much spaces is required. Smart objects have a functional and democratic soul: no matter where you live, you can enjoy the pleasure of design exactly at the moment you need it. And then easily put it back.
Formabilio sofa-bed Sofista – pullout arms means it’s easy to adapt Sofista becoming a chaise longue, ora a single bed.
5. Never seen before
Living Room is the place where you can express and exhibit your bright ideas: so don’t be afraid to dare, also by mixing in & out elements.
Indoor Amaca – an exotic swing looks good in exact setting

Well, what to say, besides terrible weather forecasts this month, Formabilio’s community, can enjoy the hottest news and releases!
Every day should be the Earth day. Every day we should do little things to help save our planet, small investments for the future.
A lifestyle that everyone of us can opt for, with a little bit of awareness, like recycling your rubbish, use public transports or electric cars, switch off the lights when there is no need, save water. Is a question of choice, conscious and sustainable.
For us, Formabilio, the concept of sustainability is very important. It is in our philosophy and in our production process. This means constant research of innovative solutions and the latest materials, smart and eco-friendly.
Take for example DiNuovo® fabrics. We use them for our upholstered items, aren’t they beautiful?
They also are “good” you know….
The fabrics of the brand DiNuovo® are made from yarn 100% regenerated, with the smart employ of sustainable procedures, energy saving, avoiding water waste and the use of polluting chemicals for dyeing -reclaiming the finest fibers -like cotton- that otherwise would be wasted.
This manufacturing process is indeed good for the environment: it spares Earth from cotton intensive cultivation, pesticides, chemical fertilizers.
The Nabuk-effect fabric of Decube armchair, synthetic and with a low environmental impact, is derived from recycled plastic fibers, like plastic bottles, and then dyed with natural, non-toxic products, obviously 100% recyclable!
This approach is renewed every day and shared with our partner companies and designers.
We are convinced that one of the main aspects of Design is also to rethink behaviors and habits in a positive way.
Respect for the environment is definitely a good start.
In Milan, last week, we had the chance to meet many of you, know your stories and peek, even if a moment, at your lives.
You came to visit us, some with their family, to whom you have shown the products we have built together or that now are in your houses.
You introduced us to your friends, divulged Formabilio’s story and shared the pictures taken during your visits to us.
We are quite a few…
Formabilio is a big family, companies, designers, community. We have met together in a room, it was beautiful, it felt real as old friends meet again after a long time apart.
The web has given the chance, even to those that couldn’t join us, to be present and to give their opinions, be involved and supportive.
During these days in Milan you have boosted us with energy, positivity and contagious enthusiasm.
You are generous, open minded and creative.
Together we will do great things!
Milan has been just one of the many occasions that we want to happen in order to meet you all.
So stay tuned, soon, as always, there are going to be many crispy news.
