This time, Daniel would do something unmistakable.
He was all too used to people misreading his particular brand of charisma. People generally assumed he was flirting when he wasn't - that wasn't a problem, really; he was usually happy to roll into flirting anyway, and it saved him the trouble of having to make the first move.
More significantly, some people assumed that his flagrant and frankly embarrassingly clear flirting was just Daniel being Daniel. Some people wouldn't know flirting if it matched right up to them, grabbed their face between its hands, and kissed them square on the jaw.
Daniel actually had done that, and Max had turned beet red, laughed awkwardly, glanced at the full press room, and said, "ah, Daniel, always for the cameras."
So extrapolating wasn't Max's strong suit. Daniel could be clearer. He could tell Max how he felt. The thing was, once Daniel had decided on a course of action, he couldn't think about much else. Impulsive, his mother had called him, but that wasn't quite right. It wasn't like these things came to him out of nowhere, more like....like he turned things over and over in the back of brain without even realising it, until the idea emerged fully formed and he had to act on it.
He waited until Max glanced at him again - he never had to wait long for that - then pointedly held his eye contact. Max smiled a little, that baffled smile that meant he wasn't sure what was happening but tentatively hoped it would be nice.
Daniel exaggeratedly mouthed the words along with the motions as he pointed to himself, made a little heart shape with his hands, then pointed to Max.
He did it again, adding a cheeky wink for good measure. Max's smile spread across his face, and he murmured something into his radio.
Daniel's own grin spread to match it. He wanted to keep staring at Max, but honestly, it was getting overwhelming somewhere between his chest and his stomach. He bit down on his smile and glanced down to get his face under control.
There was no way Max didn't know now.
