The guy that plays my boyfriend, Evan Williams, became sort of my partner in crime, we both committed to their love for each other, and we went for it. […] The two show runners, Simon Mirren and David Wolstencroft, came up to me very early on and said, “The truest relationship in this whole series is the one between Philippe and Chevalier”, Louis has a relationship with six/seven women in the show, and they are either driven through religion, duty,  passion, lust, but it is never based on love. And we needed to make sure to portray this relationship between these two guys, and needed to make sure it was love that we showcased.

I've been rewatching Versailles because I love Monchevy so much (I did it only for them, i don't worry the rest), and it made me realise both seasons 2 and 3 are pure heavy Monchevy angst :((( Despite falling in love with the couple because of the series, as it's the only original thing, all we really get from it is angst. Why?!?!?!

They made us fall for them in S1 just to crush our hearts in S2&3. Monchevy drifting apart in S2 hurt, but it was nothing compared to Philippe pushing Chevalier away in most cruel ways in S2, and Chevalier actually falling in love with somebody else. I feel like I'm never watching the series again as whole. Only S1 and some not-so-angsty scenes from the rest (surely S2E02). It's too painful 😭

The problem is that I don't even really believe in their happy ending in S3. They've finally seen through their own crap (*cough* more Philippe's though *cough*) and got back together, yes. But they are still the same people with the same problems that started it in the first place. Okay, Chevy did grow as a person, but how much really? And Philippe is even more broken than ever, so maybe they will be together, but they will struggle. A lot. Would they even find the way back to each other that soon if Delphine wouldn't left? (omg the pain when Philippe had to see Chevalier kissing/saying goodbye to her. I can't imagine the pain...)

Basically Monchevy is angst and pain and I didn't sign up for. I will need therapy because of them.

I want to buy Versailles DVD (a box set) and I've been wondering, is there any edition that has any extras that are not easily and internationally available (not when you dig through half of Google or Tumblr) on the internet?

Btw is there any masterpost of all (or at least close to that) the extras available on the internet? (only videos obviously, I know there are too many pictures to compile them all)

I'm rewatching Versailles for the first time (second time watching a series is one of the best imho).

I have completely forgotten that Philippe raped Henriette in the first episode though. That was absolutely horrible and suddenly makes me like him less. I know that in those times there was absolutely no concept of maritial rape and nobody would see it as anything wrong, but it still was so wrong.

I've never liked Henriette in the series because she just has that type of personality I don't like but I feel so sorry for her. Because let's be honest, Philippe (at least in the series) must have been an absolutely terrible husband.

Two people forced into an absolutely miserable arrangement just because some paranoid fuckhead wanted so.

@tallanastyflorida I think it would be so much trickier to do that since let's be honest she wouldn't want it anyway and he would struggle to actually do it, like with Liselotte (the second time). I don't think the scene was too graphic or that it didn't make sense. I think it was very in tune with him going down on Louise - everything out of conflict with his brother.

What I mean is that I don't think the scene in the context of the series was bad or out of place, just that the character's behaviour was very harsh (to say the least)

yeah i get that but i also like hate that they made this historical figure who for the most part was at ease with himself and respectful of the women in his life, just so sexually aggressive especially in the first season. i think the show writers were attempting to show grit or like ptsd or something but they could have done it in other ways. i dont know how to explain that making a character violent and rapey dosent make them deep it just makes them violent and rapey and it makes me like him So much less

I agree with you on that. However both Philippe and Chevalier, as well as their relationship are completely historically inaccurate so I don't we should make that the point. We could ask why they chose to make the character this way (which I actually understand and think that in general he was a well written logical character, maybe less so in s3 but surely in s1&2) rather than arguing it's not historical since almost nothing is. But yes, it makes me like him less too, as I said at the beginning. Chevalier (just like Evan himself) is such a sunshine! I love him. But he's a terrible cheater which I hate.

The sex scene I don't get/think doesn't make sense to me is his first (?) time with Liselotte. The one after he sulks pushing things off the table and she tell him to build his own dynasty. It doesn't make sense neither considering the character, the sexual mechanics or even acting.
