A concept: Mando and Co have been trying to get the Child to say “Buir” (Mando’a, parent) for ages, and no such luck.
One annoying technical problem on the Razor Crest, run-in with an obstructive government functionary, or dust-up with a former coworker occurs, someone lets fly with a “shabuir,” (idiomatically, motherfucker) and they can’t get the baby to make any sound other than “sbweeeer!!!” for weeks.
A couple of seasons down the line, Mando's swear of choice seems to be "Dank Ferrik," so please enjoy new Grogu's favored verbal stim being "dickfrick." Because it will be very hard to convince him to stop.
“The Jedi” Scene Rewrite
Media: The Mandalorian
Rating: Gen
Word Count: 827
Art Credit: Brian Matyas
Summary: In a world where Mando is more proactive about finding the child a teacher for his own good, Ahsoka refuses from the beginning to take Grogu as her apprentice.
The Togruta woman gave no indication she was listening. Mando continued after her, insistent.
“Please, you have to train him. You’re my last lead. I’ve scoured the galaxy for somebody who can understand him better than I do and can help him live the life he’s supposed to have—”
“Who’s to say that life isn’t with you?” the Jedi asked. “You care for him. You’re capable. He wants to be with you.”
“It doesn’t matter what I want. I’m not enough.”
I have no idea if this was the original design intention, but a couple of things slammed together in my brain, and if it makes things more fun for you, cool.
There’s this elongated-hex-shaped piece of standard beskar’gam that goes right over the sternum. You sometimes see it called the Iron Heart or Beskar’ta. It’s a graphic focus in most examples we see of Mandalorian armor and is also used as a repeated architectural/decorative element in a lot of public spaces on Mandalore.
It’s used to refer to/symbolize things that we usually associate with the heart- Vitality, courage, martial valor, love of and loyalty to family, one’s moral and spiritual center, all that good stuff.
Anyway, I was squinting at costume books, as one does, and was like “Huh. That kind of looks like a tsuba.”
The tsuba is the guard on a Japanese-style blade. They come in a lot of different shapes and configurations, but quatrefoil or hex shapes are popular. Traditional Japanese blades are designed to be taken completely apart for cleaning and storage, and it’s not uncommon for people to collect tsuba, so you see them out of their context as sword furniture pretty commonly. They’re both the aesthetic focus (often the only decorative element on an otherwise starkly functional piece of cutlery) and sit on the gravitational balance of the weapon, so they’re “central” in a few respects.
Jedi and Sith are the usual people we think of as saber-slingers in the GFFA, but at least in the SWEU, Mandalorians also have an indigenous tradition of (conventional, metal-bladed) sword use. The Mando’a word for the implement, “kad,” survives in a lot of more general warfare terminology. “Jurkadir,” to attack, “kadala/kadale,” injured/casualty, “kaden,” angry/aggressive, and so on. The Darksaber was initially conceived as a blend of Jedi and Mando weapons tech, and that’s made the jump to nu!canon.
You see the tsuba motif sometimes in Japanese decorative arts- especially as mon- heraldry-like crests on clothing and other textiles for martial arts schools. I figure the use of that motif for beskar’gam might have developed as “Okay we need to armor the space between the pectorals, and that shape looks familiar, let’s decorate it with the suggestion of a slot for a blade.” And from there you get a lot of cool symbolic resonance regarding the centerpiece of the saber, and all of the associated cultural schema being directly over your anatomical heart and symbolic center.
*whispers behind hands* “The crystal is the heart of the blade…”
Was this the design intention when the costume department at LFL was putting together the Supertrooper who eventually became Boba Fett? I highly doubt it. Is this a connection that you can run with if it’s fun for you? Heck yeah!

the paris catacombs are 1000x more fucked up than i imagined
did you know the cops once found a fully functioning movie theater with a well-stocked bar inside the catacombs and they when they tried to go back later to formally investigate it was completely emptied out save for a note that read "don't search for us"
Underground french cinema
my little bro is part of the catacombs community and yeah, it's basically a fully autonomous society! enough that when my bro goes in on a friday night, they don't come out until monday for work- sometimes longer if they took days off.
some of the rooms have fully stocked pantries with cooking equipment, some have movies like the one described above, some have books you're allowed to just take but people always put back- every day people bring things from the outside. artists often set up galleries there. there are rooms with mattresses and hammocks set up for people to sleep. one of the room is just a place where people leave shoes for the fun of it.
this is Known, it's not a secret by any means. the catacombs are as big as paris itself, and people live there just as people live above. it's wonderful when you think about it.
A little update! My little bro is now my little sister. Please don't misgender her :)

The Nikto called the kid a “fledgling Jedi”, saying Din had no idea what he could “do”. The Armorer also called the Jedi “sorcerers” and though Din doesn’t know anything about sorcery, he does know there’s something magical about the kid’s hugs. Something powerful. They have the power to erase bad dreams and painful conversations. They have the power to heal hurts and pains and age-old loneliness. They have the power to make Din laugh like he is now. If that isn’t magic, Din doesn’t know what else is.

Clan of Two
People Expect Big Things From a Man With a Jetpack by @cosmicoceanfic (Din & Grogu, Gen, 2k)
“It’s like watching a baby bird try and take off for the first time,” Cara says. She holds out a corn popper to the Child, who pauses in his singleminded quest to try and devour the pendant to eye it thoughtfully. “I could kill you any which way right now,” Din says. Cara chews, slowly and deliberately. “You could definitely try.” The Child takes the corn popper and stares at it. “Relax, part of practicing something new is getting your ass handed to you every now and again. It’s just my right as a person to laugh at you for it.”
Higher Education by JordannaMorgan (Din & Grogu, Gen, 0.7k)
Peli wonders if Mando might be overdoing it just a little.
💜 Child-Centered Approach by @devildoll (Din & Grogu, Gen, 32k)

Baby's Bounty by @ooops-i-arted (Din & Grogu, Gen, 4k, Parenting Shenanigans)

🔐 Out of Time by @ginnyq (Din & Grogu, Gen, 11k, Angst)
When a last-minute pit stop on the way to Tython turns deadly, Din has to ask Grogu to do something he hoped would never be necessary. But even successful plans have unforeseen outcomes, and the consequences are worse than he could have expected.
🔐 under the moon and stars by @oathkeeperoxas (Din & Grogu, Gen, 1k, Post-Season/Series 03)
Din indulges Grogu his favourite food, and decides to try something new that his son might like too.
💜 He is his father’s son (series) by @hinderr (Din & Grogu, warning this one is sad as hell, Grief/Mourning, POV Grogu)
Prince of a thousand enemies.
The Way Home by @starryreys (Din & Grogu, Gen, 2.5k, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence)
“Hey,” Cara’s voice from behind him suddenly startles him out of his thoughts. He turns around to look at her where she’s still standing in the doorway. “Are you alright?” she asks. He looks down to the kid in his arms, tired and hurt, but safe and here. “Yeah,” he says, “I am. (Din and Grogu make it off Gideon's light cruiser together, and Din removes his helmet for an entirely different reason.)
The Father by @starryreys (Din & Grogu, Gen, 2k)
Din’s mother had given him a wavering smile before she hugged him goodbye. His father’s hands had been steady on his shoulders as he kissed his forehead. He hadn’t realized the strength it must have taken them not to crumble until now. Din watches the kid, his eyes never wavering, a small smile on his lips and a reassuring nod on his head. Din waits until his kid is gone from his eyeline. Then he crumbles.
Unleash Your Creativity by wingedcats (Din & Grogu, Gen, 2k, Parenthood)
Din frowned. The silver-green smudge stared back up at him, revealing little. “It’s a self-portrait?” “Must be.” Cara hitched one shoulder in a shrug. “Lucky we’re chasing down a Jedi for him, not an artist. Doesn’t look like he’s got much of a future there.” “You don’t know that,” Din said, feeling unaccountably defensive. “He’s just a baby.” Din decides to give the Child an opportunity to explore his artistic side. With mixed results.
i can’t believe they just sent baby yoda off to boarding school by wellwhiskey (Din & Grogu, Gen, 2k, Post-Season/Series 02)
“Was it worth it?” Gideon asks now. Cara knows he isn’t directing the question at Reeves. “Somehow it doesn’t feel like it was.” i'm sick of it i'm sick of star wars
Belonging by DistantStorm (Din & Grogu, Gen, 2k, Post-Season/Series 02, The Book of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, 1.5k)
Luke believes he is observant, and yet— The Force itself seems to be laughing at him. Outside the stone framed window, Luke watches his student sit at the edge of the wildflower meadow near the stream, folded into a meditative pose. A white butterfly has landed on top of his head, and several more flit around him in a shimmer of pollen and sunlight.
🔐 Undying Sea, Unquenchable Dragonfire* by @renardroi (Din & Grogu, Gen, 10k, Alternate Universe - Fantasy, Fae & Fairies)
Kyramud, his mind tries to remind him. This is his enemy, this is the child-thief. But it seems even he is weak to the enchanting magics of the fey people, the allure of their wild beauty. They move and look and feel like a ballad that has come to life, a siren drawing him in so that they can drown him. Medieval Fantasy AU Mandalorians are a dying clade of knights, the jetiise are fey creatures.
(*I see the tags on this one but they aren't yet reflected in the work and the vibes are impeccable you'll just have to trust me)
The Last of His Name by @coffeequill (Din & Grogu, Gen, 36k, Alternate Universe - Fantasy)
“I don’t joust,” says Din, out of breath. “You do now,” says Cara, and she gives him a grin before swinging in again. He deflects it with a ring of the sliding metal. ---- After escaping the clutches of Moff Gideon, Din and his foundling travel the country in search of the boy's magical people, armed with naught but beskar and horse. As money runs tight, a return to bounty hunting seems their only option. Cara enlists his help in bringing in a difficult target, but help involves his participation in a tournament, competing for a handsome pay. To take care of his son, Din accepts, only to receive far more than he bargained for.
Boreas Sylvatica by @milokno (Din & Grogu, Gen, 17k, Alternate Universe - Post-Apocalypse, Human Grogu)
Grogu stirs. His eyes flutter open, for just a moment, and he shifts closer to Din. He stares down at the kid. His own eyes soften. The sharp, jagged lines that divide his face don’t completely disappear, but they do fade. His legs still ache, and his exhaustion doesn’t loosen where it’s constricting around his ribs— digging into the bones that stick out, ever so slightly. All of it, though, becomes inferior to the warmth that spreads throughout his chest. OR While on a supply run, Din finds a child. They take care of each other.
💜 A Short Guide to Fatherhood by @burglarhobbit (Din & Grogu, Gen, 9k, Luke Skywalker, Ben Solo, Found Family, one of my favorites!)
“Well, development isn’t just for the child,” Skywalker says, inclining his head to Din. “It’s very good you’re taking the time to explain things to him that he may not yet understand, or to emphasise what he may already know but has not yet taken in very well. You can learn from him, as he does from you.” Din nods shakily, and Grogu, settled between his legs, leans into his body. Din’s hand ghosts over Grogu’s head, and he slowly pats the child. It feels awkward, with his gloves still on, but Grogu doesn’t move away. Skywalker moves on to the next parent in the circle, and Din feels as if he has passed another test of this so-called parenting thing. Or: Luke Skywalker does development circles with the parents of the students in his Academy. Din isn't yet sure if that's actually helpful or not.
home again, for the first time by @icecreambeach (Din & Grogu, Gen, 2k, Post-Season/Series 03)
It’s time for Din and Grogu to rest, but not before Din does his Dad diligence. (post-season 3 finale spoilers)

Five Foundlings that the Mandalorian Didn’t Keep and One That He Did by @thrvrnd (Din Djarin, Gen, 5k)
“Have you found others, or was he the first?” “I’ve found a few.” “But none like him?” “There are none like him.”
The Drums of Mandalore by @coffeequill (Din Djarin, Gen, 5k)
Din looks at him, then over as more dancers begin to step into the center, some stretching out. His eyes are big. He looks into the fire. “Can I learn to dance, too?” he asks, his voice so quiet that it’s almost drowned out. --- From the day he's found, traditional Mandalorian dances become the center of Din's life. Until they're not.
Meaning by kakashikrazy256 (Din Djarin, Gen, 3k)

bloodsplatter by deniigiq (Din Djarin, The Armorer, Gen, 4k)
He looked so...weird. Without the armor, he didn’t recognize himself. He turned to the side to see how the long tunic moved around his knees and was agitated to find it stiff and awkward. It wasn’t supposed to be stiff and awkward. It was supposed to drape and flail out with each step. He pursed his lips and turned further, then gave a half-pivot. The tunic moved like a staggering drunk. It would not do. (Din makes himself a set of clothes from his childhood.)
💜 Bullshit by @midgetnazgul (Din Djarin, Migs Mayfeld, Gen, 4k)
Migs receives a visit from a man -- and a face -- he never thought he'd see again.
Unglued, Thanks to You by Angryplan3ttraveller (Paz Vizsla, Din Djarin, Gen, 25k)
Paz Vizsla cannot stand that Din Djarin got to walk away with both the darksaber and his beskar. He is dar'manda: he should not get these things. So Paz is going to duel Djarin, and he is going to win the darksaber off of him. This time, he won't lose. But first, Paz has to find him, and that task is not so easy. Especially not when Djarin has all sorts of friends all over the galaxy, and a chronic inability to stay in one place for longer than five minutes. Paz has his work cut out finding Djarin, but he'll do it. And he just might learn some things along the way.

your hands are holding me (don’t you get shy on me) by @pointvee (Din & Grogu, Gen, 2k, Force-Sensitive Din Djarin)
Beskar sings. If ill treated, if unrightfully taken, it leaves a mark. It's hard to hear for most, but the job of an armorer is to sooth the beskar, make it fit for battle once more. Din has always been able to hear it. (Or Din with psychometry, and an affinity for beskar)
Dream Child by @muchadoloo (Din & Grogu, Gen, 100k, Alternate Universe - Soulmates, Platonic/Familial Soulmates, Mandalorian Adoption Culture)
It is an old Mandalorian proverb that a child is born in one's dreams. For over twenty years, Din has dreamed of fire and smoke, bloodshed, and bloodcurdling screams. They say it’s a bad omen. They say he's fated to be childless. They say he has no dream child. What he does have, however, is a persistent green creature who sneaks into his ship, eats all his food, and refuses to leave him alone. (In which, all Mandalorians receive recurring dreams of their intended foundlings and Din just so happens to be the exception to that rule).
🔐 So You Can Imagine the Kind of Stress That I am Under by nik_knows_nothing (Din & Grogu, Gen, 5k)
Taking care of foundlings is part of the Mandalorian code. That doesn't mean it comes naturally. (Or, the Mandalorian struggles with the care and keeping of a baby alien that is older than he is and is also apparently a magical space wizard.)

not alone (not anymore) by @dotnscal (Din & Grogu, Gen, 1k, POV Grogu)
The Mandalorian is lonely. Grogu tries to comfort him.
Not one of the listed sentence starters but one of the adults walks in on the GAB trio having completely wrecked the room. “Who’s responsible for this?!” Each sibling points to the other two.
Din’s mind wanted to wander, but he made himself pay attention to the trade reports on his desk instead. Brizsa was laid down for a nap, Alanne and Grogu were having a tea party in their playroom, and if he concentrated he could hopefully get all of these done before Cara came home from New Alderaan and they could have a quiet evening together.
Speaking of quiet…
Din realized he couldn’t hear Alanne and Grogu talking anymore. Or much of anything. It was quiet. Way too quiet.
He got up immediately, poking his head into Brizsa’s room to check on the two-year-old. Her bed was empty. And Brizsa was never quiet. He rushed to the playroom, shoving the door open, and stopped short.
A rainbow of colors was all over the walls. And the floor. And the ceiling. And the toys. And his three children in the center, who quickly hid their paintbrushes behind their backs but did nothing about the empty jars of paint scattered across the floor.
Back when he’d first acquired a child, Din had told himself he would never be the parent who yelled in anger. So he didn’t quite yell as he sputtered “You - what - how - who did - explain yourselves right now!”
Grogu pointed at his sisters, Alanne pointed at him and Brizsa, and little Brizsa looked at both of them before pointing at Alanne and Grogu.
Din put his hands on his hips, refusing to blink or move when a blob of paint fell on him from above and slowly slid down his cheek. “Well?!”
Predictably, Alanne broke first. “We were painting, Daddy,” she said softly, her eyes as big and round as she could make them, a trick she had learned and mastered from Grogu.
“Then why didn’t you use paper?” Din asked, to delay while he tried to figure out what to say. In unison, his three children looked back at the easel - literally the only item in the room without paint on it - and turned back around. Alanne said “I dunno” and Grogu shrugged and Brizsa cheerfully said “We do paintball!”
“Paintball?” Din asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I like paintball!” said Brizsa happily. “Grogu and Alanne do it for me!”
Din did his best to look stern to hide his confusion, and then he finally remembered. Last month they’d all gone to see a paintball match, a new fad from Coruscant that Sabine Wren was encouraging - a game that was like shooting except with balls of paint instead of slugs or lasers. He and Cara had taken the kids to see, figuring it was an easy way to keep up support of Clan Wren and entertain the kids. Brizsa had been enthralled, but apparently he’d underestimated how much.
“You can’t play paintball inside, Brizsa,” Din told her. “You need to be in the special arena for that. Our paint is for painting. On paper.”
“Grogu make the paint go with the Force and Alanne use a brush!” Brizsa said brightly, oblivious to his attempt to scold her. “Paint go whee!”
Din decided to try his other children. “Alanne, you’re six, you should know better.”
“I’m just a kid. Grogu’s sixty.”
“I’m still a kid too! My species ages differently!”
“It was his idea to make the paint fly for Brizsa!”
“Was not!”
“Was too!”
“Enough!” Din said, cutting them off and trying not to pinch the bridge of his nose. “You are all responsible for cleaning all of this up. Every speck of paint, gone. You understand?”
Alanne was already reaching for the comm button. “Not your nanny, not any droids, you,” Din said sternly, pointing his finger. She pouted at him.
He allowed one of the cleaning droids to bring them rags, water, soap, and sponges, but after that he stood and supervised and tried to stop Brizsa from playing in the bubbles and remind her this was supposed to be a consequence of her actions. “I don’t care bout con-so-kenzes, Daddy. I like bubbles!” she said, oblivious.
Din sighed. At least Cara would enjoy the story when she got home.

@novemberrain221 (POTFFAN on AO3): I love the hurt/comfort themes - if you need a whump fix, she is a one stop shop! I especially love her Din Djarin works and ones involving Omera 🥰 Please check her out! She is always cooking up something new 🔥
Artists:
@sytortuga: Her traditional art is always so beautifully done & charming - there's a lovely nostalgia about every piece 🥰 I love that she creates masterful art of our favorite Mandalorian with simple & few materials. She's so talented & the kindest soul you'll meet. Please check out her work ❤️
@dindlarin: The way she draws Din is so good 🤯 capturing his dreaminess & steaminess to perfection. She's truly talented. Check her out now!
@yeahyeahyeaaah: One of my favorite Mandomera pieces was done by this talented artist! Their art style is unique & iconic. (And the way they draw Din 😳🤯🔥)
@gaberose: I love how varied, unique, and creative their art is! From realism to comic book-like, it's always captivating.
