y’all never shut up about folklore comparing love to films and then turn around and say “how can a person smile like the radio” as if debut doesn’t have a running motif comparing love to a song like. when you think tim mcgraw i hope you think of me he’s the song in the car i keep singing don’t know why i do it’s strange to think the songs we used to sing the smiles the flowers everything is gone our song is the slamming screen door sneaking out late tapping on your window what’s not clicking

#also again to the point of music being a metaphor for love on debut#i think its so sweet how it transforms from music by other people being the soundtrack to love#tim mcgraw -- my favorite song#got the radio on -- trying to find a place in this world -- the radio as a soundtrack for finding self love as well#but then slowly the songs transform into something that two lovers are creating together#because when we get -- he whispers songs into my window in words that nobody knows#he's both singing her the song but it's also a metaphor for his existence inspiring her#then it transforms into writing songs being an act of love#our song is something that the two people have created together -- but it's the speaker who WRITES it. it belongs only to her#i wrote an essay about this but idk it was really coherent but it's like#debut is about taking ownership of this thing that you love (music) and making it your own#tim mcgraw wrote the first song that's referenced on the album -- we don't hear it but we know it's his song#and then we watch over the course of the album as she discovers her own voice -- her own place in this world#and so by the end of the album#it's taylor herself writing the song#she's soundtracking her own life rather than relying on anyone else#SORRY ITS ALWAYS BEEN BRILLIANT
