━━━ › open event starter !
he felt odd and surely out of place. the intricate swirls of white & silver that covered his face was far too stiff for comfort , but it was appropriate for the gala. oh , what lengths the ministry would go to to create such a false sense of security.. it all felt too familiar , too unnerving but he pushed such thoughts to the very back of his mind. maneuvering through the crowd , each face hidden beyond recognition , seamus settled on grabbing a drink. or two. he didn’t bother to wait before he downed the glass of firewhiskey. his nose crinkling at the burning sensation until his gaze moved to the person next to him. merlin , the enchanted masks would be a problem. “ sooo , did you come willingly or did someone force you ? because i came for the drinks , obviously. ”
blaise had grown to be completely comfortable in his own skin, but it seemed with these extra masks on top of it he found it harder to figure out how to be him. he liked people to know who he was, to be aware of where he’s come from and that he’s proud of his journey. it was so much harder to put out his usual air of cool confidence if he had a mask on. still, the event meant free food and a night off work and away from the hospital to socialise, something he really didn’t get as often as he’d like.
he was getting a round of shots for himself, waiting at the bar for someone who looked interesting enough for his time. again, it was much harder to spot in an anonymous crowd. that was when a stranger (or someone he assumed to be one) started a conversation with him, finally. “ really? i’d never have guessed.” he teased the person gently, nodding at the empty glass of firewhiskey. “ that’s a child’s game though, if you wanna play with the big boys you’ll do some shots with me. i feel like tonight we’re going to need them.” he said, cleanly dodging the question, because of course he’d been told to represent the hospital but the he didn’t want to reveal more about himself than he knew about the other as he has learned never to trust someone who doesn’t trust you.
